New, adult player, looking for social kinFollow

Hey folks...

I just have to say out of the gate that this has to be the most helpful, polite, and fun communities I've seen in a MMO and forum, ever! :)

OK, my real quick experience with MMOs... 1) WoW, 2) AoC, 3) LOTRO! I am an ancient player by MMO standards (42!), and came to WoW late (almost 2 years ago). As it was my first MMO, I gave it my best shot over 1.5 years, but I eventually just had to go. It seemed *everyone* there had been playing since beta (or was on an alt), and everyone knew everything about how to play their toons (lrn 2 play nub -- har har, so funny! ...not). I held my own, but after a while, it seemed pointless...some guilds were nice, but with endgame and raiding constantly, there was no room to really mentor a new player trying to learn the ropes.

Jump to AoC about 3 weeks after launch. Beautiful game, but too many runtime issues for me. Dropped it last week.

Here I am! I have always loved LOTR, and my gaming experience goes back to paper-and-pencil AD&D (anyone? anyone?) where I always played a Bard. :sigh: no bards in MMOs...wait, what? LOTRO has one??? How did I not hear this?? Zoinks! Here I am :)

So, my questions...I have been on about a week, have a Level 10 Hobbitt Minstrel, love the class. I'm on one of the newer servers (firefoot or something? very low pop), and I'm looking for something that I think (and hope) exists here...

...a kinship on a server that appreciates a true adult player, eager to learn, dry wit, a true embodiment of the minstrel if you ever met me...social kin would be awesome, realize that I am new to this MMO, but based on what I've seen so far, I'll be fine. Folks who are OK with someone who can group up if need be, or just likes to explore. Someone who can just have fun chatting it up to blow off some steam and enjoy the ride. Yes, there's always gear and endgame raids in the future...but surely we enjoy the ride there, yes?

...and a mentor. Mentor me and I will catch a bullet in my teeth for you ;)

I am a player in the Midwest US. Usually play evenings and weekends after 8pm. Any fun kinships that fit the bill willing to take in a minstrel from the storm? If so, please respond with kinship name and server, and I'll re-roll another minstrel and join you forthwith.

Well met, everyone!

At level 10 you could easily jump ship and change servers. The work you've put in thus far can be viewed as a rehearsal and you'll the 2nd time through you'll be back where you were in no time!

If you've a mind to do so, roll up a new toon on Meneldor and come play with the kinship known as "There is No Fifth Star".

We are the "unofficial" kinship of Allakhazam, (many of us post regularly here) and we are a fairly large lvl 10 kin comprised mostly of adults.

Regarding bards in general, you'll find a more traditional flavored bard in both EQ and EQ2. I wouldn't recommend your starting to play EQ at this late date (with so many other newer MMO options, the servers must almost be empty these days) but EQ2 has a large and vibrant player base and is one of the best games I have ever played. They also have a much larger adult/jerk ratio than WoW does so you wouldn't have a problem finding like minded adults there!

Thanks for the welcome to TiNFS! For those I have yet to meet, I am Fermata, a Hobbitt minstrel. You all rock! :)

That's hilarious, my minstrel on Meneldor was a female hobbit named Fermata. I deleted her about 2 weeks ago. Good timing on your part, enjoy ;)

Wow, what a case of luck on my part! I really liked the name Scherzo ('musical joke'), and had that name on the first server I tried for 10 levels. When I tried it again, it was already taken on Meneldor. Looking at the naming hints for hobbits, where they say names are usually flowers or end in 'a', I went to an online dictionary of musical terms to browse through for one other than Scherzo, and Fermata (the prolongation of a tone, chord, or rest beyond its indicated time value) seemed to suggest a minstrel going 'above and beyond', so I went with that instead. Nice timing indeed! I hope no one is confused by the new minstrel with the old name :/

Nah, she was level 14 and I think I played her like 3 times ever. But I'll be sure to poke you when I run by. ;)

I wondered what had happened to you and over the course of the weekend even asked a few times in guild chat if anyone had had any contact from you.

Glad you made it and welcome aboard.

Don't know if you're on the same times I am (mostly evenings & nights pacific time) but keep an eye out for Bryndle or Rael and if there's anything you need help with I can log in one of my lower level alts.
