Katarn belt vs. PSGFollow

Hi all

Perhaps someone can shed some light on this for me.
To equip a PSG you’ve got to unequip your belt. Now I’ve been looking at the armour stats on the katarn belt and it seems to be better than any PSG I’ve seen, but every one keeps talking about the necessity of the PSG.

Am I missing something, do the belt stats not work or has everyone just forgotten about that belt?

Any helpful info would be appreciated.

i always used to wear the katarn belt thinking it gave me something, but it doesnt.

im pretty sure i tried it normaly, and while wearing a full suit of katarn, and i saw no differance on the stats page.

i honestly dont know why it has armour stats

Like any other piece of armor, the katarn belt will affect your overall protection - for example, unequipping your chestplate or helmet will cause a large drop in protection, while your gloves, boots and belt will cause a much smaller decrease. In theory, to get the full protection from katarn armor (the stats you see when you examine a piece), you would need to equip everything, belt included. In practice, the points gained from the belt (if any) are entirely negligible and the slot is better used on a PSG or profession/stat belt.

Excellent reply Yzorderrex. I have never worn my Katarn armour (I can't I'm a wookie). I have a good supply of very good PSG's that I made when I had an armoursmith. So I would go with the PSG.

just to be sure, id say test the belt out yourself, equip it, check your armour, unequip it, and check your armour, since we here seem to have a differant opinion on whether it works or not

I've tried it and neither makes any difference on the character sheet, although I suspect the PSG does make a difference against ranged damage.

Can't see any difference with or without the belt at all - perhaps it's something that makes up part of your armour when used with a whole suit rather than just on it's own. Personally I suspect it gives no additional protection at all.

It should give you the same protection on it's own that you get from, say, the gloves or a single bracer. The stats you see when you examine armor are the stats you get from wearing the WHOLE suit - if you just equip the chestplate, you do NOT have approx. 5500 kin/energy/element.

Now, the armor belts I believe got nerfed immediately post-NGE to provide an incentive for wearing stat and profession belts instead.

For the record, the energy protection granted by PSGs is not included in your stats on your character sheet, so your 2500 energy or what have you is in addition to your stats.
