For defense purposes I agree with Xenon, rat is better. Rat does agi and dex, and then on the third form you lose str not int. So with the the agi uping your defense you can use the points that you would use for dex and int into sta.

Lion has a nice aoe root though, but since wizzies already have 3-4 roots it is a bit redundent except in extreme situations.

it depends on what you do. If you sit back and cast then 2 would be better. It is better because it is held, meaning you can get another weapon/held/sheild for more stats. The only thing about the staff is it it is a weapon and can be used to attackup close if you chose, but for a wizzy a procing weapon would be better, especially with a proc buff on as well. There is looks as well, do you want a staff or wand for your looks?
