So I've given up on SWG... it's been brutally murdered. My only question now is: where should I go from here?

I do like the sci-fi theme... but that's not necessarily the most important quality I'm looking for.

So here is a list of possible games I may look into joining... give me your pros and cons please, along with a recommendation for favorite. If you would recommend a different MMORPG from the ones listed, then go right ahead! I'm open to suggestions.

-Face of Mankind (i'm actually a lil blurry on the details on this game... can someone enlighten me?)
-The Matrix Online
-Anarchy Online
-FF XI
-WoW
-Guild Wars

Thanks in advance guys :)

My subscription to SWG runs out on the 28th and I have no plans to renew. I have gotten WOW and I am really liking it. There is tons of content and I really like the combat.
I played Guild Wars during the beta and I liked it. Everything is instanced though. There is a meeting area where you organize a group and then your group goes into an instance. Please correct me if this is not the way it is anymore I only played it for one weekend.
I signed up for Anarchy Online during their free one year menbership and I havn't played it much. They keep sending me Emails offering free upgrades for their expansions but then you have to pay a monthly fee whereas right now I do not. It is ok but the graphics are dated and the gameplay is confusing. I cannot figure out how to do missions, I can get them but then I can't find where I am suppoesto go. I havn't played it for over 2 months. If I had to pay I would have cancelled.

I have gone over to Guild Wars, NO MONTHLY FEE. I am also looking forward to Auto Assult, it is in beta right now and due out in August.

Though I am having trouble getting excited about any game after watch what Sony did to the greatest game ever. My biggest requirment, in looking for a game, is that Sony has nothing to do with it. Never again will I put any money in Sony pocket.

GUILD WARS is the place to go. It is free and its really fun. ALso it is still instanced, but thats good becuase it removes all of the spawn campers and such.

If you don't like to group up to xp then don't go with FFXI.

If you are escaping SWG for the obvious reason, then steer clear of FF XI. And this goes without saying, but do NOT, under ANY circumstances go fo EQ2. Anarchy online is not even worth it being free. It really feels dated and clunky. WoW is good, but has even less end-game stuff than you would expect from SWG. You will probably spend a good time on it, but I would say that pre-CU SWG was better than it, especially in terms of community. GW, from what I have heard, is good, but I am not laying a hand on it. The Matrix Online is also pretty good, but there is a lot of imbalances.

For your best non-fantasy RPG right now, I would go with MxO. For your best alternative, I would say either MxO or WoW.

FFXI is a fun game, but be warned, it's also group only to progress much past level 20. I played FFXI for over a year, and still keep the subscription current. I have a 62RMD, 42BLM and 38WHM, plus a ton of other professions I have not even started working on.

The Economy was really screwed up for a long time, but I hear Squaresoft has done a ton to fix it. At least Squaresoft listens to its player base and try’s to take action on the issues they present like gil sellers, NM campers and bots. They also lowered the needed exp for levels as well.

Anyway, I have also had it with the CU. I lost better then 25 million credits worth of buff packs, power-ups, armor and weapon. They converted into something useless, faulty or un-useable because of my level. I have no credits left for the items I can use now, and I can’t get to my harvests to retrieve resources to sell. I have tried and tried to make it work, but I just don’t find any joy in spending 50% of time in a cloning facility.

The main reason I, and 5 other friends, left FFXI and came to SWG, was because we could solo. Past lvl 60 parties in FFXI were a pain to get and never lasted. Since the CU, all my friends that came to SWG with me, have now left and returned to FFXI. They tell me the game is great now and have been hounding me to come back. I decided to try to work through the CU issues. Silly me. Since I now have to party in SWG, I might as well go back to FFXI. At least I will have people to chat with when I can’t find a party. In addition, the items, food, weapon and armor my character had when I left, still have value and are usable.

I would recommend either World of Warcraft or City of Heroes, I picked these two up to make up for the horror that is SWG: Post CU.

You play EverQuest for free on an emulated server, BUT I WILL NOT TELL YOU HOW! You can figure it out by yourself.

Hmmm... so there's a bunch of votes for Guild Wars despite the instanced nature of it...

a vote or two for the Matrix Online... (MxO)

Has anyone heard anything about Face of Mankind? Is it a FPS/MMORPG or what? Looks kind of cool so far...

thanks again, guys!

Has anyone heard anything about D&D Online? I have read in the CWG that its supposed to follow the D-20 3rd edition rule set... I hope its as good as the AD&D games from SSI were (Take into account the time they were written. They were the top of the market then!)

There's always Eve. Different play still but it requires a lot of thought and strategy. Also Empire at War is coming this year.

i just found out about a new MMORPG called ROME: HEROES and GODS!
it is made by a smaller company called perpetual and it looks AWESOME! there are many things i liked about PRE CU SWG. no level based combat system. has mythological gods and monsters. the ability to recruit your own AI squad for combat. you actually groom this squad to your combat tastes. you can have melee/ ranged, and support( healers). there is PvP in zones and arenas, also PvE and soloing. many quests and the graphics look pretty darn good. you can find it by doing a google search. or, like me, you can find it on another MMORPG site. late 2005 release date. its the first MMO i have seen that i think might just replace my beloved and murdered SWG. also LOTR online is looking mighty nice too. can't wait for that! TURBINE is in charge of that and D&D online. its a good company so im hoping that their Customer relations will be lightyears better than SOE!

Beware of Mxo it gets old and fast. Say you call someone on your cell phone kill someone in one of the identical apartments you are going to be seeing and repeat till bored and move on. If you want to play to find out what happens next in the Matrix world be my quest play it for that reason. Yes, fight secenes are cool but still gets old fast

I'm playing WoW and CoH along with SWG. I guess the key is to find out what about SWG you don't like. Honestly, the changes to SWG made it more like the other MMORPG's out there, so you may not enjoy any of them.

CoH is great for pick up and play. No crafting, no real items, just quests and arresting of thugs.

WoW is stellar. You can solo, though if you do, you'll likely feel like you're just playing a limited RPG. But I do hear the end game is weak, though Battlegrounds comes out soon, and may change that.

Personally, I thought MxO was so-so. I was in beta for a couple months, and it seemed like a weaker version of CoH. Some amazing potential, but missing some key elements.

Same for Guild Wars - it was fun, but for fantasy based gaming, WoW was superior for me. I also don't love the PvP, so Guild Wars' main appeal wasn't there for me. I did like the system - mixing the classes, only having 8 skills. And the no monthly fee thing was a great marketing idea.

DnD online looks promising, but that will be a while. Auto Assault is looking good from the beta stuff I've seen, but may lack staying power.

Course, I like SWG still, so take all my comments with a grain of salt.
