There will be no more stat migration capability.

This fightens me...considering that I JUST got master ID last night...so now I really am just a beautician?

my question regarding this is, will the stats (health meter I guess) automatically revert back to the species default when the CU upgrade is released?

Basically there will be a lot of useless master IDs on each server that made their living off of stat migrations...I know that wihtout them I would have ever made it to master ID...2000 xp per migration is a heck of a lot quicker than 300 xp per eye color change, no matter how low you make the timer.

I truly believe that any upgrade ot the combat system will have major repercussions to ALL non-combat profesions, until those professions are tweaked as well...

Give the IDs a way to design their own features, creat signature hairstyles, tattoos, markings, etc...

I had a thought of possibly making a "disguise" ability, where you can change somebodies appearence, AND their name for say a half hour period...this would help with spys, bounty hunters, Jedi, etc...imagine being a bounty hunter that wants to stalk their prey, learn their moves, patterns, etc to get an upper hand...wiht a "disguise" you wouldn't be suspicious at all. cause you'll be a completely different person for a matter of 30 minutes (or whatever)

I just don't want to spend the rest of my days in SWG hearing "make me fat." Since changing appearences is all I can do...with no real purpose. Migrations give us a purpose. In my time levelling ID, I think I did 5 "image designs" to 20 migrations...

>> Wind-up, Execution, and Cool-down

As a four year veteran of Everquest 1, I recognize the old "casting time, some_spell, recast time" approach.

I *quit* playing EQ1 because of the massive frustration after so many years of dealing buggy play, make-a-buck-expansions, and ignoring the veteran and hard-core players while catering to the "casual" gamers.

It saddens me that SWG which really surprised me after years of doubting it was worth playing may become another EQ1.

FYI: some people don't like to group or play casually. Some people like to be able to log on and solo, or craft items that still have some in-game value.

The proposed changes in the first message of this thread looks like SWG is scrambling to appeal to the casual players at the expense of the hard-core players (like me) who have multiple accounts (like me, 4 accounts), the multi-boxers (like me). Why don't they realize that they'll get more subscription revenues from a hard-core multi-boxer than from a casual-player who will probably stop playing after three months to migrate to the next generation MMORPG anyway?

I got so sick of playing EQ1 which forces you to group and claimed to be a balanced game when in reality only certain classes were desirable and if those classes weren't available for grouping, the less-desirable classes would sit around for 1-2-3 hours LFG and finally log off frustrated because soloing end game content wasn't doable.

I'll see what the CU changes become by the time they go live, but I'm not liking what I've read so far. Don't turn SWG into another EQ1/WoW!!! I don't play those games for a REASON.

I sure hope there will be some type of Rebate program. I am fairly certain there are LOT's of players who have millions of credits worth of food, weapon, armor and buff's, that will now be of lower value, or no value at all to the player.

The devs have stated that items that will lose their value due to the CU will be converted into useful items.

I would like to know a bit in detials of how they are going to modify the skills that used to damage a particular HAM pool. For example, what will happen to BH Eye-Shot after the upgrade.

I think other professions are also very concern about the changes of their unique skill sets after the upgrade.

I think the development team needs to address these issues very carefully and precisely.

Another good example is the scatter shots from Carbineer. Scatter shots used to attack three HAM pools at the same time.

Development team should address these similar skills set of how will they become after the upgrade.

Devs i wish that you personally read this.

People quit WoW and EverQuest because they didn't like how it worked so then they decided they would wanna stay in the MMORPG category and go to SWG and guess what....THEY LOVED IT because it was ITS OWN GAME and not a cheap knock off of any other game. Until now, SWG was fun because of the multiple bars for your HAM because i like to migrate my stats and keep things new but with this new "upgrade" or what ever u call it (i personally look at it like a demotion) you are ruining the Star Wars in this game. A cool down process? I thought u were the guys that were trying to make this sort of like real life. In real life and some guy came up to you and got into a fight with you, would you wind-up and then cool down? I dont think so. You would just beat away at the guy and that is how you made it and i think that people liked it that way where you would just go gonzo on the creature that you were attacking. And this speed thing........well..../sigh....not your best idea. You should keep it where you can stack your attacks. Its a heck of a lot easier than timing them. If you just started you would want to destroy the corillian butterflies to get your xp not wind-up..execute..cool-down

EDIT:Ok devs if your gonna change anything...change the weapons and armour and creatures. You got that part right but come on...changing buffs and the HAM system? So what your saying is that we will have basically only a health bar with only a 20% buff enhancement? oh thats a good idea....to go right down the crapper. We will be looking like a boosted nest. Im sorry for saying this semi-mean things but still this was supposed to be "The Game Of The Year" and so we could "Experience The Greatest Stwar Wars Saga Ever Told-(here is the important part) OURS". Now how can we experience this saga if you are making a lot of people quit with this combat demotion? You are loosing the life of SWG and FAST. People will be turning their backs on this game and wont be looking back if things stay this way. What I say is leave everything how it is and add those new stuff you were planning on. A profession is beasty when a person knows how to use it and they will because they have worked for their title as MASTER BOUNTYHUNTER or MASTER SWORDSMAN. Well thanks for messing everything up DEVS. (and i do know that nothings set in stone yet so take everything out of the plans and keep us happy)

Thats all i have to say

Now, I'm not one to throw my teddy from the cot and say I'm off.
Nor do I whine about niggly little things.

However..

Mastering a profession, then needing to master it again becasue they've added more requirements? (TKM needing 2 handed).
/shakes head despondantly..

Bounty hunters no longer needing novice pistols, carbines or rifleman skills for their BH pistols and BH carbine skills.
/shakes head again.

What part of "the vast majority of people find the investigation tree a major put off" are you struggling with? Listen to what people say about what needs changing about the Bounty Hunter profession if you're going to change it.

I've not seen many saying "What good ideas you've had. Well done." I wonder why.

What amazes me most is how long it took to come up with such dreadful ideas for "upgrades". If I wanted to make a mess of things with ideas like these it would take me no time at all.

I suspect the deafening cries about how rubbish these changes are will fall on deaf ears considering the work that has already gone into it. We'll have to like it or lump it.

I'm going to miss the three bars. I liked being able to attack various aspects of my enemies. I thought that was a novel and great approach to combat. The problem with the HAM bar was not the different bars. the problem was that your special attacks "killed" you by taking away part of your bar. THAT was what was broken, not the whole thing.

I think some of you are forgetting that in Empire Strikes Back, Luke loses his hand to Darth Vader during his cool down period, so the devs are actually taking their ideas right from the movie. Perhaps Qui-Gon Jinn might still be alive had his cool down not coincided with Darth Maul's execution of an attack.

All of that hub-bub aside, what annoys me most is that the devs are making harder to master multiple professions by adding stupid additional requirements to master a single prof. Why make a Smuggler need Unarmed IV if he's not going to use it? I was a TKM/Pistoleer/Smuggler in the works but the Devs are squashing that. I was just trying to utilize all of the pre-reqs for Smuggler, you know, be the best Smuggler I could be even if smuggler has no content right now.

one thing i also dont agree with is the other crap they make u learn to go up TKM or any of those brawler professions. why the hell would u need swordsman IV to go up TK? come on devs but i do see where u get changing the mastering professions idea. people whine about "we need mroe skill points" so all the devs did was make it so you dont need to master as much stuff to get the hybrid professions but they also completely murdered that idea by adding useless stuff to master a regular profession

I will quite possibly cancle all three accounts within a few weeks of this "upgrade" untill/unless some major adjustments are made. Not that all are bad ideas but most are way overboard. A lot of good points in these post. If they want to make a new game then start from scratch and make SWG2 but do a little more market research first. Not just look at how many people play WoW. Go ahead SOE dumb down SWG for The Sims and Deer Hunter players (Not that there is anything wrong with these games):P... The kind of player that will play for 1-3 months and quit while alienating long term revenew players. Bottom line: Needs to be a bit more balance between the two player types :P Maybe I'm a bit off I don't know but sounds like it is going down the crapper to me too.

I guess we will find out. Unfortunatly SOE dosn't listen very well to it's patron's... well they listen while saying, "How dare you question our uberness by implying our rules need some tweaking. We know what is best. Talk to the hand." As illustrated by the recent simple changes that were complained about since launch (i.e. inventory, lots, shuttle waits, buff times for entertainers, ect.) However, maybe, in that they are trying recently there is hope. Only time will tell.

Sidenote: I wouldn't expect items to actually be replaced with something equal. Replaced probably but not with anything close to the value if past nerfs are any indication (i.e. Pet exchanger (when max pet level was changed) which gave you a totally worthless pet back.)

I'm not very happy with the way things are sounding either but I wanted to tell you all who are worried that you just dropped something that you will need again when this CU goes live, that they are going to allow every player the ability to re-allocate your skill points to any profession you want. This will only be able to be done 1 time and then you will have to grind again if you wish to change professions. However, everyone will be able to take their skill points and move them anywhere they want in the professions, just like on the Character Builder of this site.

Just want to reiterate that this CU is not looking very appealing to me either. I probably won't stop playing because I love Star Wars and I love SWG but still.... not looking forward to it like I once was before all this new info came out. /sigh

Remember that new players will have less health than established players and that master professions will have 3000 health, which is about where I am with buffs. Add 20% to that and you're in good shape. I am worried about whether there will be much use for my CM other than area heals. Looking forward to pistoleer and carbineer not sucking. And to think that I just opened up the wallet for a new set of comp armor :(

will our health be more or less than atm?

can we still get incaped from mind and action?

what hollow said

sherlock, they do not give everyone a free elite profession. what happens once the CU goes live is that you may take the skill points you have spent (only on combat skills i think) and move them around however you want them. so if you are currently a tkm/BH, you can take away the master marksman box, all the marksman boxes except the ranged branch (no more pistols/carbines/rifles) and then move those skill points over to the (stupid) 2H branch to keep your tkm. or, let's say that you have spent all 250 skill points on combat related skills. at the CU, only one time, you may dump all your current professions and reallocate all of your points to any other combat profession/template you want. noobs will obvoiusly not be able to do much, as they won't have spent all their points yet. it is my understanding that you can only move points you've already spent on combat skills.

ironically, though i think this CU with the HAM changes and profession changes is bad, it would be good for my template, equivalent to giving me more skill points. let me explain. right now i am master pistoleer, working to master commando. i will get to drop the master box as well as the rifles and carbines boxes from my marksman tree. which will free up 29 skill points for me and still let me keep pistoleer and commando. if i wanted to get some tk in, i'd have to spend 14 points on 2h, still leaving me 15 points to spend in tk. so i think this CU helps BH and commando the most, while hurting the brawler professions the most. (though perhaps this is SOE's answer to the "make it more ranged-centric" complaint?)

I like the idea that your looking at fixing Bounty Hunter, but I dont think that what you have planned for in the CU is going to fix it. I agree with a friend of mine Skoodo: Bounty Hunter should be like Jedi, after all we're supposed to be able to hunt them. Bounty Hunter should be unlocked in the same fassion as Jedi, only you get a Bounty Hunter as your unlocked template. Make it just as hard to Master Bounty Hunter as it is to Master Jedi. Make it where bounty hunters can craft or buy the tools of there trade that we need, jet packs, weapons that only bounty hunters can get, and armor that has some light saber resistance to it. Bobba Fett wouldn't have been near as good a bounty hunter if he wouldn't have had the best items available. This is a good idea IMHO, and it would work if it was done right and ballanced out.

I agree with the statement on bounty hunters, but would anyone be bothered to do it if it took as long as jedi, i have lost interest in jedi and its what i started playing for, im reserving judgment on cu till its out and ive tried it, but i have to say i think if it is bad and i think its going to be, then it will be the end of my time on galaxies, to be honest im pretty sure i wont be renewing anyway. Jump to lightspeed is the only thing thats kept me here this long and although its excellent there doesnt seem to be much reason to go into space!

The change in the HAM system mildly annoys me because I haven't been playing very long and now that I just got used to the HAM sytem they're changing it. My other problem is the one that's been stated before, WTF is with TKA's having to learn 2 handed sword along with Unarmed. Teras Kasi is a form of UNARMED combat there is no need for a sword of any kind for UNARMED combat. It's the ultimate oxymoron. That and the fact that how I've already planned out every skill point in my template and haven't got one to spare, let alone the 14 needed to spcialize in 2-Hand for my TKA.

I've read somewhere in the CU discussions that the stat boosting properties of things like Clothing and Armor attachments and Bio Engineered clothing will basically be obsolete but they'll be "replaced" by something in the new system.

Well, I guess I wasted many hours and a lot of credits grinding up a Master Bio Engineer if the tissues will be worthless to my Tailor ; and if food/drink won't have the same buffing powers since buffs are being capped, I guess my Bio Engineer loses another marketable skill, and my other character who is a Master Chef will go bankrupt after grinding up and now the foods and drink no longer do what they did ; so Bio Engineer will only be good for making pets, but if pets are being nerfed, well strike three, you're out Bio Engineers. Bahh.

Oh, and the Bio Enginer is also a Master Medic and Master Doctor. But Doctor's buffs are being nerfed, so there's ANOTHER profession I grinded up that's getting hit with the Nerf Bat. Kind of sad that non combat characters (Chef, Bio Eng, Doctor) are being affected so adversely.

This stinks just like it did for four years in Everquest. The we-know-better-than-you developers running around with nerf bats and stealth nerfs and such. For those who never played EQ, let me tell you something that happened about a year ago -- about the time the expansion-happy develepors had just released a totally buggy and broken GoD expansion and were rushing headlong into trying to release ANOTHER expansion about six months later, without even TRYING to address the myriad of bugs, broken content from the LAST expansion, the EQ community flexed it's economic muscle.

Several of the largest and oldest guilds declared they were either (1) boycotting all new expansions until the developers FIXED the old stuff or (2) were quitting en masse and going to World of Warcraft (in beta at that time). Seeing the huge backlash, SoE and Developers scurried around and invited the guild leaders of numerous large guilds to San Diego (they didnt bother inviting anyone from small or casual guilds, only the uber elites). The guild leaders presented a list of demands to the devs and management and asked what was going to be done about these things.

The devs of course said their hands had always been tied by management who wants revenues not bug fixes, but some good actually came out of this mass protest. Devs hurried quite a few user-aimed peace offerings and promised to fix as many things as they possibly could from the lists and declared they'd stay in tune with the user community.

But, things basically went back to the way they were in recent months. About six months ago, SoE released the 8th expansion Omens of War and have JUST released the 9th expansion after barely 6 months. I was growing very tired of these types of money grabs and played little or no content from the Gates of Discord expansion and played NONE of the Omens of War expansion (even though I bought it zombie-like because I'd bought all of the expansions before that). That's when I just said this will never get any better and declined to buy the current 9th expansion and haven't log onto EQ1 in 3-4 months (just too lethargic to cancel my accounts, some EQ demon still holds me in an iron grip claiming it is all better and come back and play awhile and see...... heheh nope, not gonna happen).

I've been playing SWG about 8 months and have loved it up until reading about the direction the devs are steering the game with the CU. This really disturbs me and HOPE SWG doesn't get dumbed down to become a space EQ. If it does, at least I'll have less than a year invested when I quit the game, hehe.

Listen guys like hollow said, i dont like the sound of it but give it a chance we havn't even tried it yet, if the devs mess a proffession up that people have grinded, im sure they will fix it. If they dont to many people will leave and it will cost them money, and lets face it thats all they are interested in at the end of the day. Give it a chance first, if it stinks i will be right here with most of you dreaming of days gone by when we had three bars of ham. You never know it may turn out to be better (doubt it but you never know).

Yeah, but new players will be able to get their skill points used up by learning a novice profession, it does take 15 skill points for each novice.. they can get a few skills in an elite profession without getting ANY xp.

AND only 20% buffs? What will happen to all the buff packs I have? All the clothes with +25 to defense vs dizzy? I dont think you can replace those things equally.. How do you know how much the stuff is worth? In different servers there are different needs for certain things, MANY people will lose most of their possessions that they spent their earned credits on..

I dont think that it is fair to revamp the armor system and not let armorsmiths re-allocate their SP? Hell, why not just get rid of all the crafting professions if you want everything to be equal. Some professions take more xp than others.. Some people might have master brawler/master marksman/master scout and have used up most of their skill points, while a Master CH/Master TKA will now be equal to the newer player because they grinded the easier professions? Theyll be able to re-allocate an equal amount of SP even though it only took a day or two of grinding? I think you should base it off of XP, you convert your xp (like in the village) into "SWG Experience" or something like that.. Which you can then go to a trainer and get any skills you want.
