srry to bump this up but im going through something similar with my phone service an internet company has added things to my phone bill via electronic signature from a popup. i contacted my lawer after fighting with this company for a month and was told that internet dealings are all perfectly legal and binding and popups fall under the same guidelines as commercials. unfortunatly there is no legal recourse for you. you have to just deal or get a blocker.

I hate ads too, Now I dont get them that often though I do always get them. But just this weekend I accidently clicked on one and Bam! Millions of popups, and not only that but some **** installed itself on my computer saying whenever I click on anything: You have a virus, you can pay us $29.95 to fix the problem. Okay so they sent a virus on my PC, and asked money to take off the virus they sent, whatever, ******** Anyways, I got the **** off my computer, but it wasnt easy.

Ad-Aware Download

It's probably not the best, but it's definitely one of the better ones I've ever used. I run it once a month just to be sure some site didn't sneak something in that I may have missed. I think it found over 200 items the first time I scanned my PC. =/

Let me just say that first off, I believe I speak for everyone ON FREAKING EARTH (including some of the higher primates and dolphins) that anyone who writes those f'ing pop ups can all catch leprosy and die. Anybody object? Didn't think so.

But the problem is now that we'll have to think up something worse for the people who write ad-ware/spy-ware programs that throw most of those pop ups on the screen.

(There's a third lesser known group that we will also have to speak with, those couple of numbnutses who actually buy stuff from pop ups that commercially justify the pop ups existence. But I doubt they will be too terribly difficult to reproach, odds are they'll wake up one morning and forget how to breathe without someone there to tell them, and soon all of their vascular walls will melt with the carbonic acid that they are unable to exhale and they will be well on their way to assuming room temperature.)

I propose an ultimatum, stop putting pop ups and your leech-ware on our computers, and the rest of the world will welcome you back into society. Even you, the most reprehesible dregs of our generation, must recognize that your cloak of anonymity will soon be torn away by some UNIX-savvy 15 year old kid who just wanted download the script from the latest episode of "Star Trek: Enterprise", but was unable to do so because he was endlessly being harrangued about meeting singles in his area, refinancing his mortgage, and getting a trial pack of Viagra. You've made many, many enemies over the years, and countless ranks of those enemies are hackers capable of destroying your half-assed, ambulance-chasing e-companies.

So I propose an amnesty period while you remove your software. Beyond that, God be with you, because no one else will be.

...and bear in mind that I'm one of the nice ones.

Full version Adaware and RegCleaner are my weapons against spyware! The adaware does not remove it all from your registry, you need to do a regclean as well. it is a simple, easy to use editor, just don't delete what you don't know about that's all!

BTW, I don't have anymore problems now.

Ah, the irony...

Nobody has bothered to mention that this very site pushes spyware on its visitors. Every time I visit I have to stop some piece of GAIN crapware from installing.

Actually, GAIN is associated with kazaa last time I checked. I had it on my comp before I reformated my HD. Kazaa is the reason for spyware if you dont get it from webpages. Do you have it?

Yes... and no. I'm an IT professional, so I do know what I'm talking about regarding this.

GAIN is a spyware company -- one of the more (in)famous -- and they attach their crap to a lot of products. Webpages are probably the most common way for people to get (GA)INfected, though. And yes, Kazaa is loaded with spyware. Find Kazaa Lite if you really want Kazaa.

Hit the link someone posted above for Ad-Aware if you regularly visit this site and don't regularly scan for spyware and/or just click "Yes" to every Installation pop-up that comes up on your screen. :-S
