Quote:
This afternoon Blizzard released the subscribers count as of November 13, 2014. This is up 2.6 million from the Q3 2014 call that listed WoW at 7.4 million subscribers.

Warlords of Draenor has sold over 3.3 million copies so far, up from 1.5 million pre-ordered in August.

Well hot damn!

There have been a few "lore" issues and the no flying (so far) that I can say I don't like.
This has been an awesome xpack so far. I'll be hitting 100 tomorrow night. These levels have gone by so fast, and I actually enjoyed them. I see friends already working on 2nd or 3rd (that is right) toons to 100.
Wonder if the game will re-hit 12m, or even go past.
There is an article in this months PC Gamer, and they say they have enough content for another 10 years worth of WoW... and we might get to see it, one step at a time.

Arguably "game gains influx of temporary subscribers with new expansion" isn't much ammo.

It's a great number for Blizzard.

But, I'd like to be the voice of reason for a moment. This number is a snapshot. It could be a lot different in a couple months. Maybe 10 million will stick around, maybe they won't. Let's not over-react and over-interpret the number. I'd hazard a guess that many of the 3 million added subs are returning players. Well, the reasons those players left previously are many and varied. But, bottom line, they left before, and unless the content can sustain their interest, they'll leave again. I'm not being critical, just pointing out that the onus is on Blizzard to deliver good content in a timely manner. Let's not jump to the conclusion that the sub growth curve is going to continue to look like TBC did. Maybe it will, more likely not...but we'll see.

I also have a sneaking suspicion that burnout level is going to be really high this expansion. Many people raced to 100 within a couple days, even with the server issues. Even more casual players--I'm including myself in this category--are 100. I just hit 100 last night, so less than a week and that includes significant time over the weekend that I was unable to log in (RL and server issues). Now, there's a wait time for gearing up, etc., but no raid yet. How are people going to react to the end game paradigm for WoD? We'll see.

Ultimately, though, I don't really care about the sub number anyway. I'm really enjoying WoD and the people around me seem happy, too. So, I don't care if the subs are 10 million or 5 million...it doesn't affect my enjoyment of the game. Well, maybe a little. There does seem to be a lot more BS in /1 and /2 lately :-).

No, but the fact that we do have these bursts, and that they say they have more content planned, tells us that WoW is very much alive, and will be alive for some time.

You can tell that a game is in its downhill spiral, its death throes when the developers release an expansion and it doesn't generate much hype, nor very much "influx of temporary subscribers".

When you release a huge content patch (expansion), and you barely get any new subs... THEN your game is dying.

Yeah, I totally agree.

I think the forum trolls have been overplaying the "WoW is dying" thing for a long time. Yes, sub numbers have gone down over time. But, even the last number before WoD (6.7 million I think it was) is hardly a small number. I'm sure many other game companies would love to have half that number. The people that kept repeating the dying meme were doing so for personal reasons. They got tired of the game, or didn't like Pandaria, or whatever, and project their own attitude onto the entire game/community. WoW hasn't been dying, it's just an older game that some people drifted away from over time for a variety of reasons.

As I posted above, I don't think 10 million will be sustained. I could be wrong. But, regardless, the fact that WoD generated such a bump clearly shows there is a lot of vitality left in the game.

I went to Wal-Mart to buy a 60-day Gamecard. Not one to be found.

They dont sell WoW cards anymore iirc. It is now a Blizzard card, so if you were looking for the WoW icon card, this may be why.

Didn't see one that stuck out saying Blizzard on it either. Only thing I saw were League of Legends, and a ******* of PSN/Xlive cards.

A year ago I tried to give MoP a fair shot after I finished my degree. That lasted maybe a month or two. I wasn't one of the people going around whining about how much I hated pandas. And I loved the idea of the Asian themes and all that. But it wasn't Warcraft. I just couldn't get into it. I'm an easy person to please. Hell, I even really enjoyed Cataclysm, and a lot of people hated that expansion. But when I heard about WoD, I got genuinely excited again. Last month I tried the 10 day free trial, and I really enjoyed what I experienced there. I've re-upped my subscription, but I'm waiting until after Christmas to get the expansion so as not to be a selfish **** and all that. Right now I'm just focusing on catching up my alts to level 90 so I can figure out which toons I want to focus on.

Oh, and hey guys. =x

I think of MoP as an illusion by a magician. "Look, over there ... PANDA!" (Please don't notice that this is actually a Troll expansion, OK? Yes, the Zandalari are back, and take the front for much of the expansion, but ... PANDA!)

I remember doing Kun-Lai Summit Quests, you're dealing with the Mogu.... Mogu..... Mogu.....

DA TROLLS BE HERE!

And I immediately rolled my eyes and went "......ugh, seriously, Blizzard? Really!?"

My fun and excitement were literally cut in half when the Zandalari popped in, I was like "ugh...... not AGAIN......"

Now we're in WoD and I'm just waiting to see how Blizz will make more Zandalari or somecrap and stick em in there... they'll find a way... they always do.

"DIDN'T YOU KNOW!? The Trolls were on Draenor too, and nobody knew!!"

That's about the time I cancel my sub.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm actually feeling mildly tempted to re-sub right now in order to power-grind my level and gear so I can run Molten Core. Smiley: eek

Yup, I know. I'm saving that for an alliance toon. I want to see the story from the other side too!
