Ron Perlman would be the perfect Uther. Also extremely suitable as an Orc.

Ron Perlman has a type of voice that commands your attention and draws you into the message, whereas Uther ( at least portrayed in the games ) seems to have an almost fatherly tone to it that commands your emotion. Ron may make a good voiceover for Thrall if he can put a bit more robust sound to his voice, I hate to say it but Ron would make a good Khadgar as well.

Well the obvious answer would be Ozzy Osbourne. Though with how difficult he is to understand that might not be a good idea.
Ozzy probably wouldn't fit well as a guy who can cleave people with his bare fists.

I'm never going to be able to picture Khadgar without thinking of Ron Perlman again. Smiley: laugh

It's interesting that he seems to have taken over that role from Michael Biehn, considering that their surnames are pronounced the same.

I'd put Vin diesel as Thrall - but not Fast Five vin, more like Riddick Vin.

I don't know about Ron Perlman though - you know he's in his sixties at this point and unless he is playing a non-human character, he's probably a little past it.

I'm surprised no one suggested Liv Tyler as Sylvanas, although I'm a really big fan of Kate too and she would be a top pick.

Liv is the cute elf, not the "I'm a genocidal maniac bish who hates life or lack thereof" kind of elf.

Cate Blanchett for Sylvanas. Sexy and can play dark character roles. And has the voice for the role.

Michael Chiklis as Thrall, as both his facial and voice would match pretty well.

Liam Neeson would be a great Malfurion cos of his looks, tallness and voice.

Age seems to be the big problem in general. People are either too young or too old. It seems like Hollywood erased an entire generation when they pushed the wimpy people. Affleck, Damon, DiCaprio...

One of the reason why I haven't been to a theater in 10 years (and I left after about an hour of Fellowship of the Ring)

Never been a much of fan of Tolkien's stories to start with. I'm more into Moorcock. Elijah Wood didn't help things. I think he is a talentless douchebag. Gave the movie a chance because a friend kept nagging me, but I just couldn't stand it.

Well, personal preference I guess. If the Elric movie(s) ever make(s) it into production, I'll probably be all over it, similar to the LotR crowd.

Jason Bourne wants to borrow your pen for a second.

As far as Ron Perlman goes, how about him as Cairne? He's already played a Beast before.

My sister and I were actually discussing this (and watching the first movie) today.

Frodo is a complete *****. Sam is the one who actually did everything, or at least motivated Frodo to most of the stuff he did. Sam was the real hero of the movie that wouldn't give up. Frodo was whining about things from day 1.

And Gandalf is badass.

WHAT!?

You want Sylvanas to look like she sucks doorknobs all her life? I mean, I know Undercity is right next to a lake, and not too far from the sea, but surely you don't want Sylvanas to look like a fish?

Young whipper-snapper, haven't you ever seen the Original Animated Movies?

Frodo was a lot cooler in them. He complained more than Sam, but not as badly as in the movies.

Also, try to understand that carrying the ring (and constantly fighting against its temptations) is a very exhausting endeavor.

The whole trip, Frodo is fighting the ring (and Sauron) in a battle of Willpower, while braving absolutely harsh environments, physical exhaustion, dehydration, starvation, and of course, the constant dangers that they're in. He gets captured, imprisoned, tortured by orcs IIRC, and continues the march into what would be almost certain doom.

Try to give the little guy some respect.

Edit: And try to remember that Samwise couldn't bear to carry the ring for just a couple days and was eager to give it back to Frodo, if memory serves. Meanwhile, Frodo carried it all that distance, and would go on to carry it clear to the volcano before caving in.

Oh, I know. Frodo went through hell and back with the ring. Because of the ring.

And yet, when you're watching the movie keeping that in mind doesn't make Elijah Wood's performance any better. It's more a criticism of the movie itself than the story.

I read at least the first book, and I don't remember Frodo even having the same order of magnitude of wimpiness and general fail.

And now I want to go see the animated movies.

I remember watching The Hobbit animated film when I was in like 6th grade or something. It was pretty damn cool. Got me interested in the series and started reading the books.
