I was wondering if anybody else has problems in the Vashjiir zone. My frame rates will drop all the way to 1 and if I wait long enough, usually 10 minutes or more, the frame rate will pick back up to playable levels. latency is at 73 or so. I dropped all my video settings down to "fair" from "good" with no luck.
I have a quad core, with 8 gigs of ram, maybe 10% of the hard drive used up, and running on a wireless network. My first thought is that we are having network issues, but there have been no changes made since we set it up about a year or more ago. Using speedtest.net I get 2Mb/s upload and 10 Mb/s download.
Anyone out there have any ideas as to what is going on?

You forgot the most important part, what kind of video card are you using?
OMG what kind of manufacturer would pair up a 9100 with a quadcore and 8gb of ram?

It's not that odd, HP/Compaq had models running with that combo - most of it is just dying pieces/parts thrown together in order to show big numbers that people consider important. Heck I'd say it worked if you're that impressed with 8gigs and quad-core without knowing more.
As for the OP - my guess is outdated graphics drivers, but your card is weak. You might wanna consider upgrading it, although it might cost a bit. I'd guess PCI Express 16x 2.0 but you'd definitely want to double check that.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I have an HP so that probably explains the Frankenstein system. Let me see about upgrading the video card, but it will be next weekend before i can do that.

It's not a matter of the hardware being impressive. Even a relatively low-end quad-core is well above the level of a 9100 GPU, and the two should never have been paired together.

Ya, I understand and agree with you. It's just not that odd, either.
There are a quite a few complete garbage PCs available on the market now - which is sorta funny because theres really not that many PCs in general on the market comparatively. I think what has been happening over the years is a further extremities of the two poles of High-performance gaming rig and piece of crap Desktop for people who can't afford, or are for some reason opposed to, Laptops. Even some of the custom rig websites are losing their in-betweens. A huge majority of Laptops fall into the very same category as this PC, having decent Processors and huge HDD/ram banks and a 128mb 333ghz on-board video card that can barely keep up with Farmville.
The PC was definitely never designed to play current games (assuming it was designed at all.) WOW is quite forgiving, though. Besides, it should be relatively easy to upgrade the VPU - at least moreso than a Laptop, and maybe that's one thing they banked on when they sold it.

Looks like it might be a heating problem that could be alleviated by cleaning some of the dust bunnies that have accumulated with time.
