What's your Cataclysm release plans?Follow

#27 Oct 20 2010 at 6:20 PM Rating: Good
Probably not going to go to a midnight release. I'd like to, but I have a final the next day at 10:15 in the morning. If I do go to a midnight release, I'm definitely not going to play it when I get home.

My finals will be over by Wednesday though, and then I'll have the remainder of Christmas break to do whatever I want, provided my mom doesn't guilt me into taking a trip to see her for Christmas. =x

1. I got Wrath at Best Buy the day of launch on my lunch break. No one was there and there were tons of copies in stock.

2. Vacation - If you want to take time, that's cool, go for it. But why day 1? I just feel like it will be crashy and buggy. I'd wait until Wednesday of the week following. (Tues would be the first Maintenance)

Speaking from experience with TBC and WotLK, there's next to no problems with server stability outside of having queues. At least, I haven't run into any on release day.

The only instability/server problems I encountered during TBC(though not during Wrath, thanks to two entry zones) was due to the massive numbers of people(I solved it by taking my mage to Zangarmarsh and skipping Hellfire Peninsula until the late night time). And that was only a problem until about 11 at night for the first two weeks. I wake up around 9:30pm, so only an hour and a half of lag. When you factor in the queue, maybe 45 minutes. It works out well for me, since I can wake up, queue up and make breakfast, and by the time I'm done eating, the queue is almost done and I can play all night without problems.

And it's not like I burn my vacation on other things.

release day is too close to turkey day and xmas to schedule any time off around it. i'll have to squeeze game time around work and stuff, just like i do now.

I consider this the biggest beauty of it this time around. A nice little oasis of peace (and killing) between when The Guests leave and The Guests come back.

Hubby will be picking up our copies at midnight, same as the last two expansions.

Download, log in, get my Druid, train flying, train Archaeology, and take off doing that that for a few hours-or until I get too sleepy! I'm a stay-at-home mom, so aside from breakfast and my kid getting ready for school, I'll have plenty of time to play. :D

And I'm with Theo, as far as I can remember, there were really no issues with bugs the first few days. I was probably about the 7th Druid to hit 80 on my realm, but I'm not interested in the rush to level this time-I just want to dig up some artifacts and maybe level some new characters!

Oh, and must make note to stock up on paper plates, plastic cups, healthy snacks and tv dinners!

I'll pick up my copy over my lunch break and install it when I get home from work. I've never had a problems finding a new blizzard expansion on launch day and I never pre-order.

But I know better than to expect much on patch day. I've done the vacation thing before and its been a waste.

Pre-order so I'm guaranteed a copy on release day.

Complete 25 dailies, but not turn them in on or about 6 Dec (my B'Day).
Borrow my alt's heirloom gear, equip said gear.

Stand in line at Game Stop at their midnight release event - there is a store within 2 miles of where I live.

Load and log in if possible, turn in quests, then explore as much of the new zones as possible, pay for Azeroth flying, then get into the real questing/content, if time allows.

Go to work, make plans to level and new name for worgen, er... I mean create quality products for the employer.

Go home, see the server is down for hot fixes, eat dinner with family, help kids with homework, watch TV wife wife, possibly sneak a log-in attempt, play or go to sleep.

*edited to add Azeroth Flying

Heirlooms won't give bonus exp from 80-85. You're better off with your current gear.

I was planning to download it on release day but that just seems a tad unreliable. I will head down the street to my local GAME or Gamestation and see if they have any in stock.

I will wait til late afternoon probably before I start playing, to allow at least some of the initial rush to pass by, then I will start levelling my Worgen Hunter. Going to choose a name for him in the next few weeks, and make a character to reserve the name. One of the rules I have for character names is that someone reading the name, shouldnt instantly know the class or the race. Wolfbow for instance is unacceptable, as is Doggystab.

I will also crack out my Paladin, Xervish, and start the run to 85. Abandoning Prot this expansion I think, Holy and Ret for me.

I like names to make it obvious what race the character is, but not from a literal standpoint, from an aesthetic standpoint. For example, my Blood Elf is named Thelesis, something very elegant. My Tauren is Willowberi, which makes one think of nature. My Goblin is going to be named Popina, which is cute and playful.

Yeah I agree with that Pigtails, I guess I stated my side a little too strongly. Its any name that involves Beef, Tiny, Elf, Blood etc etc. I do try to choose a name that fits the character, even though I dont roleplay, I come up with a personality and a backstory for my character.
Rolland, for instance, was just a normal citizen of Gilneas when he was converted into a Worgen. It was only after he transformed into a beast that he got a greater understanding of animals. It was also then that he realised he couldnt sit back behind the Greymane Wall in safety anymore. He decided to set out into the world and put to rights all the evils he could find.

Every one of my characters is named Korz, or some variation thereof. Korz, Körz, Kórz, Kørz, Kõrz, etc.

Makes it easy on my guild.

I'm going to the midnight release this time because I'm kind of curious to see what the crowd is like in my area.

We're taking a couple of days off so we can play and just generally goof off while the kids are in school. We took the day Wrath came out off and had no problems playing whatsoever. I don't recall so much as a single DC.

And yes, because I am that nerdy, I'm sure I will make WoW themed food. Wintertime calls for a pot of northern stew with moist cornbread and a nice Dalaran red, maybe some delicious chocolate cake or homemade cherry pie for dessert. But who knows, maybe I'll mix it up and do carrion surprise and goretusk liver pie or something.

But... but... that's boring! Plus special characters make it a lot more difficult for people to send you party invites and whispers and such. Of course, that might be a plus to you. ;-)

I like this too. But I couldn't help my self and the name for my Tauren paladin is Cudlight. Eh, it'll make me laugh every time I look at it.

Hmm, I don't know what I'll be doing. I'll probably grab it Tuesday night on my way home from work. But I don't know if I'll be able to stand all the frustration that will go along with it. I would like to get a realm first achievement. I believe they still have those for like first 85 and first 85 class/race but I'm pretty sure there are a lot of people out there more dedicated than I am so I'll just have to settle.

I have a question for anyone who's done the Beta...

Just how realistic is it to expect to level from 80-82 within 6 hours in Cata?

My impression is that leveling will be much slower with the expac than previously, that we won't be seeing any same-day 85s.

I got into a bit of a spat with a friend over this. Said friend expects to install at midnight and be 82 by 6AM. All I said was not to get their hopes up too high, that I thought leveling would be a bit slower this time around.

But is that a realistic plan? Hitting 82 in 6 hours? Or even within the first day after installation?

If it's like the last one, and so far it seems to be, then I'll be at Gamestop at midnight. I'll then drive 45 minutes home, do the install, and download whatever patches there are. I might get to play by 2:00 or 3:00.

I really don't think so. The first two or three months of beta the leveling process was sped up a bit, as they were trying to tweak it and get it just right. I'm almost positive that they want to slow it down though. They want people to actually enjoy the leveling process and enjoy the content, not speed through it. Besides, iirc the people who got to 80 in a day or so of Wrath coming out were cheating weren't they? Having a bunch of their friends tag mobs for them and then drop party right before the kill so they got all the exp?

Hell, right now on my druid I'm leveling pretty fast with constantly questing and doing dungeons and it takes me an average of 4-5 hours to get a level. Getting 2 levels in Cata is the equivalent to getting 4 levels in Wrath. I really don't think it's possible to get four levels in 6 hours through honest means.

I'm gonna do the same thing I did with Wrath. Wait 2 weeks, then walk in and pay for it within 5 minutes of entering the store.

For the first time since high school, I won't be working retail this Xmas. Usually the month of Dec was off-limits for requesting time off. Now I can...o happy days. I'll probably just grab it early on the 7th since installing it and trying to get it going at 1-2 am isn't usually a good experience for me.
