I finally have 16 hours left... well now its 12, oh wait.. now its 22 hours. Hell, its 26% 1.39 GB of a 5.29GB sized "patch". Isn't that bout the size of the entire game?

On Comcast, I downloaded 3 GB of the first file and the whole 1.5 of the second in 2 days. Maybe you have too much traffic on your home network hogging up bandwidth?

If I have a big Blizzard update going extremely slow, I ensure my pc firewall is on and then put my ip address in my router's DMZ. I disable the DMZ when done. It's similar to bypassing your router and putting your pc directly connected to the internet.

Not sure why this got rated down, rated you back up.

He has a valid point here -- the download was available several weeks ago. Even I, with multiple people living here who use the internet, found time where nobody was on, to let at least one of my computers running (overnight is a good example) to download the patch info when it was out.

There was no opportunities, nor times, when nobody was using the internet?

Another poster here also covered a couple options: Taking a look at your firewall settings (Does the patcher say "You appear to be behind a firewall"?), and also to look at what else is going on with your LAN.

I highly doubt that you should only have 1.3GB after the end of three days of downloading with any type of broadband.

Also, if nobody else is using the internet, uncheck the box that says 'Don't throttle download' in the prefs area of the downloader.

This will *greatly* speed your download up, but lag up the internet for everyone else at your house.

I had to download it all come patch day. Unfortunately my background downloader never worked. It always said it would start when I exited the game, it never did. I tried to just go in and start the downloader, it always told me the information for the next patch wasn't available. I tried repairing and that didn't work either.

So something happened in there that caused me to not be able to download most of it weeks ago.

I down rated it because it was a smartass comment to make, when they assumed to know the situation that prevented the patch download to happen earlier.

Granted I did sound like I was complaining of the patch download. It is a large patch, so it's been a while that we've had one like this. I could be in the game, complaining on all the other glitches players are experiencing.

All and all, I have enjoyed the downtime. It has been fun to replay through WC3!

Not sure why you guys with Comcast are having a problem. I have Comcast as well and I downloaded the patch in about 20 minutes. Maybe you guys should upgrade your speed? I've got the 16 MB/sec plan, which is the second lowest plan in my area.

Also an assumption. The OP was the Comcast guy. We don't get Comcast here in Finland. =p

It was a smartass comment, but also a legitimate one.

As far as assuming to know your situation, I didn't assuming anything, mainly because I don't care. Blizzard provided the patch well before it was released. Any reason you weren't able to download it was on your end and had nothing to do with Blizzard.

Yea, it's a big "patch". A lot of things changed, meaning the files on your system have to change. Maybe they should have mailed everyone a DVD so they could install it that way. But instead they allowed people to download it. The problem with that would be in them assuming everyone has an internet connection. Although since this is an online game, that's probably a fairly safe assumption.

You didn't sound like you were QQing about it, you were QQing about it. Blizz provided it beforehand, it's your fault you didn't take advantage of it.

I really do not think I was "QQing" about it. I simply stated how long the download was taking, and commented on the size of the patch, and asked of it's size compared to the original game size. Why I did or did not begin the download of the patch at an earlier time is irrelevant, seeing as I wasn't complaining about it.

My WoW folder is 25GB, with my interface folder being roughly 100MB. This is the first patch relating to the upcoming expansion that includes a complete rework of class talents, abilities, stats, UI frames, and a new patcher. It also includes new and updated graphics. Since we've been hearing about everything this patch entails for several weeks now, I find it very hard to believe that anyone would think this was a small patch. And yea, large patches take time to download.

So other than pointing out the blatantly obvious, if you weren't complaining, what exactly was the point of your original post?

I agree! Due to my situation, I did not complete the download of this patch in advance. However, again, I was not complaining.

I am sorry, but my question was asking if the original game, meaning vanilla WoW, was roughly the same size as this patch. I also meant this half jokingly, as to make fun of the size of the patch itself.

And yes, I know it is a large patch, and I am aware of what all Blizzard plans to implement.

I believe my intent with my original post, was to relate to the original poster, in regards to our downloading speed.

Like I said, it's why I rated you down. I am sorry, is it just me, or does it seem like you came in this thread looking to start an arguement? Everything you have posted has been quite negetive. Anyways, any further ill communication on your part will go unanswered by me. I've kindly explained myself enough here, and I am sorry again if you or anyone else sees issue with my comments.

I didn't see Raolan's comment as him trying to start an argument. Mainly because the 'And you didn't... because?' one-liner is just one of those you drop in a thread as a sort of 'durr'.

Ex.

"Omigod, Blizzard totally changed the entire game!"
"And you didn't read about this half a year ago because?"

Okay, bad example, but I think you get where I'm going.

On the other hand, neither you (Magillicotti) or the OP was directly complaining about anything, just pointing out that a) Comcast might have issues and b) it's a freakin' large patch (the installation takes even longer).

So to recapitulate:

- Raolan's comment wasn't meant as hostile.
- No one was directly whining in this thread.
- Deciding to get an argument going while I'm asleep is so lame.

Interesting that you'd think I was talking about you when there was more than just you and the OP who are having download issues.

Regarding long download times;

I have just gone thru this myself. FWIW I did do the pre-downloads but when my main computer blew its PSU some 45 minutes after I first started play again I had to go through this again on my backup system. In the process I discovered something. My ISP (Bell) throttles the DL speed after several minutes. I was able to save a day of DL's by watching the DL rate. When it dropped too low I exited the process and started again, gaining a huge increase in speed till the next nerf. Yes it was a pita but I judged it less so than the alternative.

Actually, I wasn't complaining. I was wondering why the OP had a long DL time, I was impressed with mine.

Really? O.o Two days seems an awfully long time to download that amount of data to me. Then again, I have a very limited amount of patience.

I just kinda scanned the bickering in this thread and did not really read it. But I just DLed the entire WoW client from scratch rather than digging my disks out of the closet for install on my new PC. I was refreshingly surprised by how fast it went. (about 3-4 hours)

I was able to log in during phase 3 of the new streaming deal with 3GB left to DL and at least say hi to my guild and start looking at the new talents. The new update system seems pretty cool.
