I'm not trying to be condescending Jord, I always assumed that it would just be a draw. It reminded me of the wiki contest that we had when that was launched, all the prizes were randomly drawn. I'd think that if they were doing merit based awards they'd have to give a pretty clear outline of what would make a post "better" or "worse", somewhat like those story contests that were linked back in the day. Without those criteria I assumed that it was going to be a random draw. I assume they planned on reading all the entries too, just to make sure they were eligible, now who knows, filtering this is going to be a nightmare.

Since it's just a /random then what's to stop someone from making multiple posts to increase their odds?

Probably the fact that's already been discussed in every single thread about this that they'll be checking for multiple accounts/posts.

I was wondering the same thing Rusttle until I read the rules several times and the obvious finally caught my attention.

Contest Rules wrote:
Users may enter more than one Cataclysm item that they’re excited about, but only one entry will be counted per user.

ahhh.... you mean I could have just ranted about mudkips for a few sentences instead of expressing a paragraph of features that have been exciting me that will get NO reads or response in that clustered trash heap~? I should copy paste my post somewhere else for some discussion....

I'm sure they wouldn't put their blind faith in the random number gods. At least one admin has to have played Pokemon at some point and know that's just a bad idea.

I assume they'll do something along the lines of a random drawing, and then check the winner's entry post. They'll make sure it conforms to the rules, including an official entry and the absence of socks.

That's how I would do it. Pick 50 random integers between 1 and however many posts there are, then check each individual post and reroll if any of them are disqualified. A hell of a lot easier than getting every user name and reading every post, then drawing.

I think when I crunched some numbers earlier if all posts are counted and they dont delete any right now it looks like the chance of anyone getting one is like at 0.7% chance.

What time is the Drawing as in - will the names be posted or will the people be notified by PM?

on Monday August 2nd, 2010, we’ll be announcing all fifty winners of the giveaway and we’ll then send you your beta key for Cataclysm! It really is that simple. Just submit the part of Cataclysm you’re most excited about, and you're golden!

It could be both, but it sounds like they'll be posting it for sure. Not sure as to the when exactly, other than later today.

I'm just saying, some people wrote one or two sentences, while others actually wrote, at least, a paragraph. Just as an example, of course. I'm not getting my hopes up. lol

Well, some of us actually wrote alot, and put alot of work into it. Atleast I did, and I did't know it was random. If I knew I would't write so much, and just simplified it alot. I think it's lame that they did't make this clear in the rules.

But in a wierd way im glad I wrote alot, because maybe someone looked at my post and said to them self: Wow, I actually look forward to that aswell, I just did't think of it this way!

So maybe I made a difference even tho I dont win.:) Just that is a prize for my part.

Good that it's random. I'm bad at writing. Not everyone here is a Shakespeare.

And besides, you need only one reason. There's no reason to write an essay about new heroics. Few sentences are enough.
Hoping to get a key! :D

Heh I'm glad I didn't write a lot. It did cross my mind I admit to have written a novel but I just did a mediumish one instead, thinking it would be randomised. I figured since there wasn't a minimum word count they weren't looking for an essay anyway ^^

*evil grin* QQ moar about believing you had to think about something you're looking forward to and - ohmygosh - typing it up and posting it ;)

So will you complain about having to download the beta client for ages because that's hard as well?

Yes, I'm feeling snooty *gg*

I didn't know you were in the army, ekaterinodar (I tried to shorten your name, but I'm not sure where to cut it - ekate sounds like eKate, which made me all hot and bothered for a moment).

Although the difference with the wiki contest is that there were ways to get your name on the list more than once depending on the number of wiki entries/pages/guides/etc that you made.
