Although something I think Theo wrote did pique my interest. About phasing in instances. The idea itself sounds grand, and really interesting.
They've used it a bit so far, like in the DK starting area, but nowhere near the extent they're apparently using it in Gilneas (Worgen starting area).
If you haven't seen how the Worgen start out, I'll just say this from seeing a video of an early stage: it's cool.
I just think it would enhance the leveling process a lot if there's a story in a quest and they use phasing to actually make changes in the area around you.
Yeah I know about the phasing in icecrown, dragonblight, and DK starting area. I love how it works. What piqued my interest in your post was talking about using it in dungeons, maybe raids. It really got me thinking about the possibilities of phasing.
I mean thinking about it, it's pretty awesome. New expansions, or even major patches wouldn't need to add new worlds like Outland or new continents like Northrend. They could add new phases to the existing world, like the people rebuilding after the cataclysm. Where natural progression in the game allows you access to these new phases.
To use icecrown as an example for an idea of phasing. Lets say you clear the 1st wing. If you wipe in the upper halls, you run through the 1st wing again and things are different, the halls are destroyed from your raids onslaught, and your faction members are now scattered throughtout the 1st wing. Phase 1 is our raid trying to get into the citadel. Phase 2 shows us in control of the 1st wing after a rough battle. Just a little idea of how it could work in raids.
Phasing really opened up a lot of possibilities to the world.
