After seeing some of the UIs on this thread and reading what those more knowledgeable than me have said, I figured I'd make my own attempt at a better organized UI for my nub self:

ForteXorcist (yes, even though my main isn't a lock, I still like the buff/debuff and cooldown trackers)
Pitbull
TitanPanel (placed at the top of the screen, set to autohide)
Of course, I haven't even gotten to Outlands yet on any of my chars (hey, I just restarted about two months ago :p), and I know there's probably a lot of room for improvement in my setup.

@Raji, I'd do something about the minimap.
Both the size and that the stock minimap is pretty ugly.
Edit: and Anobix, what do you use for your minimap?
(And I'm still looking for someone who can code LUA :3)
edit2: to be more specific for the LUA, I can't do any coding so I need someone to help me strip all useless crap from sexymap and make the profiling work/see if you can alter the minimap buttons look (eww blizzard border)

You need to do it individually, but the styles have the same names so pick a pretty one and change it to that for all addons.

That's the great thing about UI's though. It's not a needed thing, so anyone can do whatever they want.
I do it because I find the unit frames clunky and in a bad position.

I play on a 32" TV, about 3-4 feet away. Seems pretty normal. I also don't have the best eye sight, even with glasses some of the stuff is still small.

I see the raid groups on the left, where I assume they just extend farther to the right. I would think that the text box would be able to fit under those quite easily.

Your target frame takes up almost as much screen space as my complete UI.
In a 25 man raid.
The reason why everything is relatively large for you is because it's all around the outsides of the screen, a.k.a. not where you're looking so you can't see it otherwise.
There's a reason why 99% of all custom UI's have the unitframes along the bottom below the feet of the character, that's where your eyes are and that's where you see all important stuff. You want your eyes to be there all the time and not jumping from one corner to the next trying to figure out what is going on.

You must not play a healer. At the very least, healers need to do better tracking of debuffs, hots, and shields than is provided by the stock ui.
One could argue whether or not a minimalist, pretty ui is more effective than a functional but ugly one. I think the definitive point comes when your UI is so crowded that you can't see the poo on the floor.

Here is mine at a training dummy.
What I have is basically dominos for bars, healbot for my raid frames, and Icehud for my other bars in the top right. Strange icehud setup, but I find if I have everything in the center around my character the way its intended, I get tunnel vision.
Ice hud is buggy, a pain to set up, and the bar positioning setups are really akward since its intended for them all to be set around your character, but i haven't found an addon I like better to create bars for abilities. Anyone know a good one? I like how it tracks combo points too. The brown bar is measuring target CC. I just gouged the dummy. It disappears if there's no CC applied.

I like your UI, the translucent look is nice as it means you aren't missing anything that could be behind something, however small it is. Kept everything relatively small which is good as well. The only problem I have is that your grid frames only have two letters shown for names (I like to see full names or at least the majority) but then I guess if you run with the same 9 other people you don't need that as much as in 25mans with a 35-40 player raid base.
What rez do you normally run at for your screen? I could see the text in the unitframes being pretty hard to read if it is that small.

Comment on your UI:
I like it. It has clear space everywhere while still having most stuff in a relevant area, and also having clear space between stuff. Which is good, but I think it makes your UI look busier which I don't really like. You also seem to have multiple bar styles, fix that! :P
Coding request:
If you have the free time, can you look into how Grid handles these little indicators in the corners? It's really the main reason I use Grid and I'd prefer Pitbull if there was a way to make it display them. Also, borders for OOM and such because I don't really want mana bars in my raid frames. Thank you very much.
The Sexymap stuff is of interest to me, too. I think what Aeth wants is just the fading of the minimap buttons (and removal of their ugly golden borders), which is what I want, too. Also, low opacity on the minimap until mouseover. And a square minimap. That is all.

Bags and the menu things are hidden until mouseover (and I usually just use B anyway, go bagnon)

Ah, but all the necessary information is on my screen, it just doesn't take up as much space anymore.
And there's more sense and logic in the way it is presented than the stock UI.
So now I can see the entire fight and everything that happens a.k.a. the game, and not some random piece of artwork or such obscuring my view of the game world.
