DBM (boss mods)
Closetgnome (equipment sets, really just a quick way to switch between Blizzard's)
BadKitty (Feral bear/cat dot/buff/cooldown timers)
Hear Kitty (Makes combo points audio instead of needing to look somewhere, I keep meaning to change the simple 5-note scale to the Close Encounters of the Third Kind tune, just haven't been ***** yet)

My bank alt has Auctioneer, and other than those who needs mods?

I still need to thank you for inspiring my see through UI.
Pics will be incoming on monday as my UI isn't completely up to date on my Macbook.

The main components however are:
Dominos (Not that it's visible) for actionbars.
Pitbull4 for unitframes (see through when they're filled, showing colour when bars are emptying)
Quartz for castbars, (de)buffs on my target and little things like ready check timer etc (timers are mostly grey, castbars see through)
Satrina Buff Frames for buffs and debuffs on me as well as special buffs that require taking action in special frames (lock and load, maelstrom weapon and such) all low opacity of course.
Mik's Scrolling Battle Text for combat text.
Sexymap for minimap, although it needs to be replaced. (If anyone here knows enough about lua to write addons, PM me please :3, a solid minimap addon that does exactly what I want does not exist yet)
Omen for obvious reasons.
And momentarily Grid until I find the best way to make Pitbull work for 10 and 25 man raids.

I was just thinking about an UI thread.

Up til this week I was using this rendition of RobroCop UI.

But I just recently switched to Rawr UI and haven't taken any screenshots.

I'm back into a minimalistic mood again.

I got rid of most of my UI stuff. Back to pretty basic stuff.

Mine

I use:

X-perl: But ONLY for Party members, Target, and for a Raid Grid

Titan Panel: Can see it at the bottom. I like knowing at a glance what is shows.

Recount: I tried Skada, didn't like it.

ExtraBar: I used Dominos, it is cool. But from time to time I'd find my self with an issue with it. ExtraBar takes the Action bar you would have to Click on to get (On action bar 1, there is that "hidden" one behind it) and puts it on your screen above your bags (that 2nd bar w/ my food was the hidden one).

Mapster: Carbonite is what I like, but it seems to be having some issues..or it is with me. It makes me lag out. I can't have that going on.

A Boss/Target Icon: Lets me click a Target, and then quickly place Raid Icons on it. Use it on all my toons, but I get more use out of it when I'm on my Tank.

Event Alert: I play DK, I like to know when stuff procs.

And then I use a recipe addon to find stuff for my crafters.

In the picture, behind all the names - you can see the 1st Tauren Mage :o

I'll add a screenshot when I have one, but it's not that different from the Blizzard UI. I'm a traditionalist, I guess.

The Add-ons I use are:
Altoholic
Auctioneer (on bank alts--yes, plural: I'm on several servers)
Bartender4
GTFO
Omen
Vuhdo
Enchantrix (only on enchanting characters, whether main or alt)
Simple Coords

I've played around with a lot of others, but these are the ones I come back to.

I'm being a horrible elitist prick again here, but I can't help but ask some things.

So, why are your buffs like that? They take up a (guesstimated) 10-15% of your screen.
I also count 5 or more different barstyles and I'm thinking 4 different fonts. (really, making them all the same style/font is one of the biggest things to make your UI go from loads of random addons to a proper customized UI) There are also different backgrounds for Omen, chat, grid etc.
Your portraits are both HUGE and not level, making it look odd. Actually, things in general aren't lined out which makes your Ui look like (pardon the expression) a ************

And I'll add a not completely up to date screenie of my UI:
Screenshot

Still bottom unitframe is focus, long time buffs (longer than 5 minutes) are along the top and hide in combat, shorter ones and debuffs along the right side.
Unitframes get more see through when the player is out of range.

Why though? There just isn't any reason to have 15 buffs showing all at once (ESPECIALLY passive ones, that have no duration). You don't gain anything from it and you increase your addon load (and decrease your field of vision).

I mean, you're a Hunter. Does it REALLY matter if you know how long you have left on Commanding Shout? No.

Dubuffs you can place (and MAYBE certain others that other raid members can, like Sunder) and short term buffs (especially if they influence your play style at all) are really all you need to see.

And there just isn't any reason to have a massive bar telling you that you're tracking humanoids.

And, to be blunt, there's NO reason why you'd need a timer for each and every buff. I can tell what every class buff in the game is just by glancing at the icon, and I don't raid. And when most of these have very long durations, or are passive, why does it matter if you can how long you have left on them?

In that whole list showing on the SS, I'd only show Imp. SS, Culling the Herd and MAYBE Replenishment/Well-Fed (and, if you'd like, which you are tracking. Though I'd just leave that on my map).

It just doesn't matter how long is left on AI, since I'm assuming the Mage isn't going to be spot-refreshing it. He/She will hit all at once. Same with Gift of the Wild, Fort and Spirit. You may need to monitor your Pally buffs, but not non-stop. Just a glance before you start fighting. And that's only if you are the only Hunter.

All that passive crap? Worthless.

[EDIT]

Question (because I see this all the time, and don't get it)!

Why do you have that giant black rectangle at the bottom of your screen? Do you have trouble seeing your bars or something without it? And, if so, why don't just just surround your bars and such with individual ones? I never got why people want to just cut off a good 20% of their visible space for no reason. I mean, it isn't like you are saving resources, because the game still loads all of what is covered. You just don't get to see it.

And I would could never PvP with so much of my screen blocked.

You can use an addon like Aperture or viewport that moves the viewable screen up above the black section to not lose any viewable space.

My UI as of last week.

Visible in this:
  • Pitbull4, for self, target and focus frames - focus isn't visible in this screenshot, and needs to get a new home anyway.
  • Grid, for party frames (and raid frames when I'm in a raid). I still don't really know how to do it in 40mans without losing functionality, but that is really quite low on my priority list.
  • Quartz for the cast bar. I am not sure if I should bother getting a target/focus cast bar, it's not like I can interrupt anyway and DBT tells me when boss abilities happen either way.
  • Omen - should be obvious. I normally don't display it because Grid shows me aggro, and as healer, I don't really have threat issues very often. As DPS I'm not good enough to have threat issues, either.
  • Recount. I don't always display this.
  • Sexymap for the minimap - the opacity is really low so it's hard to see, but it's in the top centre of the screen
  • Satrina Buff Frames for self/target buffs and debuffs. Maybe I should display less than I do at the moment.
  • Dominos and ButtonFacade for action bars.
  • Prat for chat frames. I've actually been changing the colours for some chat messages since I took that screenie.
  • TipTop for the tooltip. Also, GearScore.

Not visible in the screenshot:
  • PowerAuras for short cooldowns like Penance and Prayer of Mending, Shadow Weaving for when I go shadow, and a great many more things on other characters. I really use it the least on my main.
  • Mik's Scrolling Battle Text for all sorts of things.
  • Deadly BossMods for raid stuffs and making pizza and such.
  • CooldownTimers3 for all my cooldowns, and item cooldowns.
  • GridSideIndicators for my cooldowns on others, Shadow Protection and Prayer of Mending tracking, and other stuff on other characters.
  • ForteXorcist for DoTs when I'm shadow.

I use more addons, but I don't really count those as UI modifying, and some I only use on alts.

And this UI isn't finished at all, I'm just waiting to upgrade my PC (which is far too dependent on my housemate right now) because I will use some additional stuff when I can.
I'm also still planning to modify Grid to do what I want (be properly black) but I'm in the middle of exams so I don't really have the time to do the necessary research.

So how about shifting the icons to the right, changing the background to invisible and making a simpler barstyle so it's not as much of a distractive block and that won't always take up that much space.
Quote:

Do it, trust me in that it will improve your UI by so incredibly stupidly much for 10 minutes of work.

So why not make omen black too? that makes it easier to read as well (same for the other things).

This sums up my thoughts about the black bars of doom perfectly.

Edit: if anyone wants to take a rip at my UI, feel free to do so. I welcome all well thought out criticism.
The obvious goal for my UI is to make it look as close to playing with Alt+Z as possible and I'll post a lot more screenies Monday to show all of it.

I was looking over your UI again (WTB Highress screen) as your UI's are usually really sleek and well made.
But I did notice a few things:
Decursive, why? Grid does this perfectly fine and you already have that.
The round buttons below that, what is it/can you change it? they're the only not square thing in your entire UI.
The grey border around your chatwindow and around the small window below your unitframe, can you change those? The borders don't match with the rest of the UI.
I'd also hide your actionbars if you use Fortexorcist and hide buffs but I guess that that's preference.

Not going to chime in too much on the overall UI look since it seems to me people play with what they like. And so long as they can control their toon more power to them.

Hands down though I think one of the best new addons is AVR along with its corresponding boss mod module. This addon provides so much information in an easily understood viewable format I think Blizz will end up breaking it.

Solid points.

I have decursive up there as I haven't had a chance to mess with my grid yet to show mindcontrols for quick sheeping and curses for cleansing (and then binding it with my Clique) - it will be done though before raid this week.

The round button below that is leftover from Cryolysis which I used to use for a lot more features, but really I can put them into my hidden action bar on the left. I really only use it for automated reagent restocking now.

Chatwindow border isn't an issue to change, will do that on the next login if I can find the setting. (addon is chatter)
The small window beneath my unit frame is from mage nuggets, not sure if I can edit it, but really I don't use it much (at least not atm) so I can just disable the window.

As for hiding my action bars, I've done that in the past, but generally I keep them up there for range purposes to know when I am in-range and out of range of the others, this is especially helpful with fire spec as 3 of the spells have different ranges. I also do it for quick cooldown monitoring when I look down there for the same reasons, but I'm sure I have some redudancey there that I can find.

I also need to decrease the buffs/debuff sizes at the top of the screen, they are needlessly too large by about 10%

I use the bars for the same thing. I could use a crap load of Power Auras or SBF but I am really used to seeing a bar there. Plus the second smaller bar is great for temporary things, Jet Packs or rarely used spells that I click to activate.

It does, if you look underneath the upload button, you'll see a link that says more options, which will allow you to select upto a 2meg filesize or a variety of resolutions upto 4000 x 3000 px if you're a pro member and up to 1meg if you're a free member, which should be enough for a high resolution pic/screenshot.

Here's mine in a 40-man raid. That's out of combat. In combat the button bars and minimap fade to pretty much nothing, but icons for my cooldowns are strategically placed.

Visible:
Pitbull
Dominos
Chinchilla
Phanx Chat

Not visible:
Bagnon
Clique
CooldownButtons
SatrinaBuffFrames
SnowfallKeyPress

I also have a few add-ons that are character specific: Auctioneer for my banker, all the stuff you need to use Jame's guide for alts still leveling, PallyPower for my, um, pally.
