What did you do with your orphans?Follow

My main, having already completed the meta achievement as well as securing all six NC pets, was rather annoyed to discover that there were no new pets this year (guess Blizz figured why give them away when they could sell them for cash instead).

That said though, he had no real need nor desire to haul a pair of kids all over heck’s half acre but that didn’t mean that he was a heartless grinch who didn’t care. As such, he set about teaching the two valuable life lessons and skills to help them in their futures – he put them to work.

As a main and a raider, Rus doesn’t have much time for domestic duties, so the little BE girl showed up just in time – she’s currently catching up on a backlog of laundry and cleaning. Once she’s done with that he’s got about a ton and a half of fish feasts that need cooking (he will let her wear his chef hat as he’s not a complete meany). As for the orc boy, seeing as how Rus has over 50 mounts and 115 NC pets, those stables and animal cages need a major cleaning – think of it as resume material for becoming an Argent Crusade squire. ;-)

My alts have had a variety of reactions towards the kids.

My mage kept forgetting that she had the orphans with her, thus resulting in quite a few close calls, usually featuring her finishing something up and self porting instead of opening up a portal (leaving a very terrified kid in an area in which even the rabbits are level ?? to them). The mage got the achievement towards the meta though so obviously the two orphans survived (mostly intact).

The pally was probably the nicest of the crew, albeit, she’d just upgraded her prot spec weapon and had a very bad tanking experience as a result of not enough skill with it (always used swords and got a mace), so she was feeling kinda vulnerable. She made a real connection with the little BE girl and has been taking her everywhere, showing her how to mine ore, kill allies in the various BGs, run instances and call healadins tank/dps school washouts, etc. All said, with the exception of the incident involving the kids mistaking the exploding sheep and walking bombs for toys (Dalaran only had a small chunk blown out of it), the pally did a pretty good job. ;-)

I’m still trying to figure out why they entrusted two innocent children to my Forsaken warlock as personally, I wouldn’t even trust him with a pet rock, much less a living humanoid child. Fortunately, the lock is more oblivious then maliciously evil, so with the exception of some deep psychological scarring (...remember kids, if you eat all your dwarf guts and NE liver there’s fresh gnome brains for desert!), they should be fine.

I’ve got no idea why my hunter was so anti-social towards the kids considering that they were better behaved then her pet, but she ultimately came off as that aunt whose idea of babysitting you as a kid was “sit there, don’t move and stay quiet.”

My BG toon really did want to be friendly to the kids as, after all, that toon is still pretty young too, but after having the kids spoil the umpteenth ambush, they were finally dumped on the walrus man that runs the daycare facility over behind the graveyard in WSG (real nice facility too – has a playground and everything).

That’s the report on my orphans so far this week – how’s everyone else handling the responsibility of kids?

I picked the Wolvar orphan on my Hunter and ran around in DB doing the Daily to collect pups. When I had 12 I'd abandon the quest and start if over.

The entire time I was spewing stuff in /s

"THIS, THIS is what your kind gets for being d-bags!"
"Hey look, we did find your Aunt and cousins. Hey watch this!" - Kill Den Mother
"What? You were actually kid napped and that one is your mother?" -Kill Den Mother
"You like to eat frog legs too!? Awesome!"

/sigh

When I get bored playing a game, I resort to dumb and silly things to entertain myself :3

My DK on the other hand did ALL the quests again this year as I'm not 4/6 (well 5/6 If you could the Wolvar/Frog pet) on pets.
The gold I made bought me some pvp gems.
New title.

Reflecting back on my time spent with both orphans (BE and Orc), I'm sure Blizzard is contacting child support services with my IP in hand right now.

I have Speedy, Willy and a Gorloc. Why would I want to ferry those damn orphans around again?

I made mine run around behind my bike, even though there's a sidecar. Too cruel, Blizzard...

Mine is now working in the sweat shop in Silvermoon; the one under the tailor trainer for those not familiar with this place of pure awesomeness.

I introduced my orphan to base jumping. Apparently you're suppose to have some kind of parachute or something attached when doing that. Alas, it took me 12 orphans to realize I had forgotten something.

I'm still trying to figure out the logic behind giving little boys to a my main, a priest, for a week.

What!? Nothing happened. Stop looking at me like that!

My rogue kept trying to slip booze to the little guy, but my paladin would have none of it.

My banker tried to teach the little guy how to monopolize an industry, but not much sank in, so she settled for teaching him to barter for the other kid's desserts at lunchtime.

Things went pretty well with my mage, until a stray fireball accidentally set the Blood Elf girl's hair on fire. He managed to put it out quickly with a well-timed water elemental, but it scared the crap out of the poor girl.

My death knight didn't get an orphan this year, something about catching all kinds of diseases from him.

My priest indulged in the orphan's more diabolical side and Mind Controlled the playground bully into eating bugs.

All in all, an interesting week.

I put him in a sack and gave him to some walruses to take care of, like I do with all orphans. They promise they're good with kids. He even had a carpenter with him to help out with the task. Last I saw them they were going for a walk by the sea. The sun was shining on the sea, shining with all its might, though this was odd, because it was the middle of the night.

I was in the middle of warsong gulch with my Dwarf Warrior and asked the child:

Xorq: Hey boy, so where are your mom and dad?

Orphan: They worked at deadmines until some evil adventurers went there and murdered them.

Xorq: Uhhh... yah?

Orphan: It was so horrible, I witnessed all of it, one of them looked much like you, but he was a lot younger, and his armor was crappy.

Xorq: You... witnessed?

Xorq offers the Forsaken a tasty orphan in exchange for a Horde flag. Call it "cultural exchange".

-------

Now what really happened was that I started doing the "visit here, visit there" quests and then the child pops a quest that asked me to take him to Darnassus. So I thought the stupid brat was asking too much of me... so I dropped the quests and deleted him.

I like the achievement system but that kind of achievements are for girls.

The problem with orphans, is that they're like potato chips.

You can't eat just one >:P
