I know, this is borderline necroposting but I come bearing information that is relative to the discussion.
I was re-reading Rise of the Horde. When I noticed a few things. Two were conversations between Velen and K'ure (the naaru that rescued the Eredar from Argus when Sargeras corrupted most of the planet.
After Sageras made his offer to the 3 leaders of the Eredar Velen went to a temple containing an artifact that, "...was ancient, so ancient that none among the eredar could remember it's origins, any more than they could remember their own. Legend had it that it was a gift bestowed upon them long ago. The crystal had enabled them to expand both their mental abilities and their knowledge of the universe's mysteries. It had been used in the past for healing, for conjuration, and, as Velen hoped to use it tonight, for visions."
He did have a vision of what Sargeras would do to his people and tried to convince Archimonde and Kil'jaeden. He failed and in despair went back to the temple. Where he was contacted, through the crystal by the Naaru who felt his distress and told Velen what to do to save his people, "He had never even heard of such beings of light as the Naaru, and now this entity, this K'ure, was asking him to steal his people's most sacred object. They even claimed that it was they who had given it to the eredar in the first place!"
Both passages come from the prologue of the book. But the last comes about a page or so into chapter 9.
"The gathering is slow, K'ure had admitted. But it continues. There are other Naaru like me, who are reaching out to the younger races. When they are ready, they will all be brought together. Sargeras will eventually fall beneath the will of those who yet believe in what is good and true and harmonious, what is the timeless balance of this universe."
This book was published December 26, 2006. Christie Golden likely started writing sometime in 2005-early 2006. And The Burning Crusade was released in 2007. So Blizzard quite likely had this all planned and maybe Wow.com's theory on Elune might not be as deep in left field as we suppose.

"Yeah, but that's back at the academy where most of your errors don't result in your
friends turning into a pile of
ash!"
"Actually...you'd be surprised."
