Golly! Human HUNTERS!! Jeepers!!Follow

#1 Feb 08 2010 at 10:33 PM Rating: Excellent
To begin with, I've been off WoW for a while (like a year or so). Therefore, if this post is redundant please forgive me. Or not. GO SAINTS!! WHOO HOO!! Ahem. Moving along....

So I was perusing the upcoming features for WoW: Cataclysm and I was amazed to see that we'll be able to ROLL HUMAN HUNTERS!! My first Dranei toon, after BC launched, was a hunter. Years ago when Azeroth was made up of just two stinkin' continents, I skipped the class 'cause: NO HUMANS ALLOWED! (say that last part in your head in the same voice from "Snoopy Comes Home". No really. DO IT!! You nerds know what I'm talking about!)

Anyhoo, I was upset; I really wanted to be a human hunter because, as some of you may already know, I was a police K9 handler for several years (eyes left to my avatar). I just thought it would be really cool to make a character that kinda looked like me (I even looked for a special waist and chin expansion mod on Curse.com) and then I would try to find a wolf that looked sorta like Aron (my dog). But alas, the closest thing WoW had at the time was a dwarf. Sorta like me with a LOT more hair and a lot less lower leg. Bigger nose, too.

I checked to see if there were Gnome hunters but they got skipped too. Good thing, tho. I'd expect that watching a Gnome hunter with a big ole cat pet would be like watching the Garfield balloon at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. You know? Those little people holding on...with ropes...to the (cough!)....balloon? Okay.

Trolls? I wouldn't be able to tell which one was the pet!! HA!!

I considered Orcs and even rolled one. Every time my character growled something, my poor little pet boar cowered. Even I was a little afraid of my toon. I'm man enough to admit it.

"What about Taurens?" you may be asking. Or, you may be asking, "Is this guy off of his medication?". Fair questions, the both of them. As for the first query, I seriously considered the cow-folk. The lore, the look, the whole "native American" vibe... But when it came down to it, I had to pass. Why? Well, (MY PROBLEM) I just see a hunter as being fast and light on his/her feet. A half-ton bull dude running along with a wolf that looks like a Chihuahua next to him just doesn't do it for me. Aesthetically speaking. Second question? Maybe.

Night Elves. No.

When BC came out and the David Bowies...er, I mean "Blood Elves"...were announced, I thought, "Well, they kinda look like humans. Humans with pointy ears, glowing green eyes and $100.00 hair cuts". So, I picked another server and rolled a NE hunter. Just not the same.

I know (again) it's MY PROBLEM, but I just can't picture a NE running next to a wolf or a cat or a...what the hell is that pointy Starship Troopers critter? They, oh I don't know, seem so damn froo froo. Really. These guys stand like super models when they aren't doing anything for Christmas sake!! They have FEATHERED HAIR!! I see a group of them standing around in Orgrimmar together and I think, "Holy crap! Blizzard is lettin' Calvin Klein advertise in the game now!" And DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THE MAKEUP (guy-liner, anyone?)!!

Now, before you say, "Hey Darque! Don't hate until you actually try it, man!", I did. I rolled a male BE hunter and got him up to level 18 or so. It just didn't work out. I mean, the guy looked like Kip Winger with a musket. Seriously. And, I don't know who at Blizz programs the voices in this game, but I could have SWORN I heard the guy go, "Ewwww! Sticky!" on at least one occasion when I used "feed pet" and he grabbed some boar meat. (Or maybe I overheard my wife when she pulled my underwear from the hamper. Hmmmm.....).

So, like I said, I just wrote off ever having a Human hunter, and I went with a Draenei. Because they are so much more...uh...rustic and "out doorsie". And, uh...normal looking. (Cough!)

But, before I digress any further, I just wanted to say I'm excited about the human hunter class in Cataclysm. I can't wait to pull over one of those Mekginner's Choppers so I can have my pixelated K9 partner sniff around it and bust 'em for "Felony Possession of Felweed". That's TOTALLY not weird, right? Right?

Sigh.

I miss my dog.

I still have no clue who you are, but that post I just read was just absolutely ******* awesome. And I suppose you're also a good person to ask a question to I've had in my mind for a long time: is "K9" intended to be a lame play on the word "canine" or is it just a coincidental name?

Anyway - nice timing on that post. I was just looking up some more Cataclysm stuff and (as usual) decided yet again that Blizzard = pure effing awesomeness. Everything I've read about Cata seems to be a change in the right direction. Those guys just plainly understand how this (virtual) world works. The new class/race combinations are one of the less interesting changes to me, I guess, though it will be interesting to see more different things pop up. Funnily enough, what I'm excited about most is the updated water graphics. Graphics have been pretty much the sole thing making me slowly lose interest in WoW, and the way water looks is a huge part of that specific point. And now they're fixing it. All I can say is that I can't wait for Catas release, as the amount of sheer awesomeness is staggering.

Hey my hunter has a good chance of becoming human too. I don't know why there weren't, it seems like a natural fit.

This post is a good reminder of why I regularly asked myself where you had gone.
And I think you'll be delighted to know that wolves have been the optimal raiding pet for most of the expansion.

But one thing I disagree on.

Orc hunters are awesome.
Period.
No discussion possible.
My female orc is the cutest awesomest bestest and more of such words hunter ever.

It helps that Draenei have superior shooting animations, *by far* with gun/xbow.

Draenei girls look like they are using a pump shotgun... what ISN'T cool about a pump shotgun? Girls with pump shotguns are always hot (remember Ridley? Well, OK that wasn't a shotgun, but close enough. Still had a pump action on it.)

Draenei men look like they are John Wayne, best put a smaller gun on them (huge guns don't really look realistic, but the smaller ones do, esp the lower-level double barrels).

Either way, they are both very cool hunters. Sure, they got hooves, but the gun animations... I love em.

If I recall correctly, and there is some serious debate about my recall the older I get, the term originated in the military decades ago when the army started using dogs. Like you said, the word "canine" is pronounced phonetically "K" and "9". I was also in the Army and I can tell you that if the US military can abbreviate, alphabetize or anagramize (note: NOT a real term) a word they're gonna!

Of course, Wiggley's Doctor Who angle is intriguing too....

Plus the fact that putting "K9" on the small part of the squad car's window is a whole lot easier than having "Canine"... especially since they do put the dog's name on there as well.

Such as "K9 Aron" compared to "Canine Aron"... it's just too long lol =P

I want to become a K9 officer, but my boyfriend and family are too worried that I'd wind up getting killed out there (no matter how much reassurance I give them and statistics and whatnot)... Anywho, I wound up just applying to the Detention Deputy position instead (like being in a building with inmates is any safer). Mainly doing it to get my foot in the door to get into the investigative part once a position opens.

I just hope there are Worgen hunters! I really want to play one. I ventured over to the Greymane Wall in the Southern part of the Silverpine Forest. There is a huge door that blocks off the Duskhaven Zone, the starting Zone for the Worgen race. I wanted to sneak in there & look around, but I doubt there is a way to do it. Anybody ever make it into one of the un-named zones on the map?

I was thinking Goblin Shaman. He could hide behind his own totems! I've always had toruble getting into the humans in WoW. The bushy moustaches, Popeye arms, bald patches...and the females have droopy chests. I did play a Hume Ninja ******* from Bastok in FFXI becuase he had cool samurai hair.

Really when you think about it most of the body types in WoW are pretty funky. Troll males = Bad back pain. Nelf Males = long arms. Belf Males stand with their pelvis thrust out in a "Hey look down here, yeah that's right boys" kind of way. UD I have trouble with the boney knees and elbows, cant stand to play them unless in robe.

Taurens are ok when your feeling like you want to look manly. But that hairy hump kind of bugs me and you feel slow at normal speeds. Hopefully Worgen will walk ok...

Ohh and don't even get me started on pogo stick mounts!

Human Hunters make sense though. Enjoy yourself Mr. Darque and stay classy.

The dog in his avatar was his K9 companion on the police force. It got sick (or old) and passed away if I remember correctly.

It crushed darq, because the pup was truly his best friend.

I'm not a big fan of human hunters, but grats. Have fun. As for tauren paladin, I might be tempted. But I already have 2 pallies, and I'm not going to pay for a race change. But I would be tempted to convert my be over (gender change too since tauren women don't do it for me :))

humans in this game just seem too... dorky to be hunters. but that is just my opinion.

Visit York in England, it is still technically legal there to shoot a Scotsman with a longbow, but not on a Sunday. They are still scared of William Wallace down there.
I am not sure of their views on the whole "having your pet turtle savage the Scotsman" thing though. It is kind of a grey area.
