What is Blizzard doing to a once great game?Follow

Decided to start a Troll Hunter, I have quite a few high level Alliance but nothing over 30 horde side, except a DK, so the idea is to experience some of the horde areas. I get to the last couple of quests to get the medallion and pick out of the cave in the starting area, approach the cave a vile familiar up ahead so kill him and start to move forward, familiar to my right and one to the left go between them thinking I will agro one of them, nope get through. Enter the cave and there is a felhunter so kill him, move forward and another felhunter, then I take notice of the tooltip for him, he is yellow, all the mobs are now yellow, no red mobs anywhere, even the boss guy to get the medallion is now yellow. I checked the Bloodelf starting area, no hostile mobs there anymore.

Now I can understand Blizzard want to make the game easier for new players, but this is starting to get to easy, I enjoy a bit of a challenge while levelling and learning to dodge mobs is part of learning the game, my level 80 Night Elf Druid even did the run from Menthril Harbor to Ironforge at level 12 and helped out countless others trying the same run while questing throughout the wetlands.

Well at least the rest of Durotar has red mobs.

Because this is the thing to be concerned about the most.

Simple 'fix'. Skip an area and go do harder quests.

[ChrisCrocket]LEAVE BLIZZARD ALONE!!![/ChrisCrocket]

Seriously though, have another good look at your post and look what you're complaining about. I could come up with tons of things I hate Blizzard has done to WoW even though completely disagree with the "OMG THEY RUINED THE GAME" view, but the fact that they made hostile mobs neutral isn't really one of them. The 'learning to avoid mobs' now starts at level 10 instead of level 3, so what?

Ok guys, it wasn't meant to be a complaint, though the title was a little over the top and I could have worded it a little differently. Things have changed since Wow started, there have been a lot of great changes and after trying a few other games I still find Wow to be the best, some of the things that I enjoyed have been adjusted to make the game easier, thankfully we can still enjoy those if we like or bypass them, class quests being one example and of course I could have just worked my way through the cave killing mobs as I went. Hopefully they will only adjust the starting areas, looking forward to keeping an eye out for the elven patrol in the Barrens and of course the Son of Arugal in Silverpine Forest.

These kind of developments are unavoidable. Blizzard will have to keep up the renew in the game to keep "as much players as happy as possible". With that, there will always be some "changes that look like downgrades to old core-players"...

Like you said with quest made eesyer in starting area, but also Reputation is eesyer to get from these "Old Fractions" compared to the beginning of the game.

Some people say: I don't like the changes, I spend hours and hours grinding back in the days and now you get it in a second...

All you can do about that is simply to accept the fact that Blizzard shall always add several changes while the game keeps "unwrapping-while-evolves".

And don't forget the 34 elite wandering Forest Protector in Ashenvale. They remind me, uncomfortably, of the Fel Reavers.

Attack the yellow mobs and see how that plays out.

Then go back to Durotar or the Barrens.

If your biggest complaint about WoW is that it now only takes 15 minutes to go from 1st-10th level instead of 16 minutes then I think everything is still ok. ;-P

I can't believe how much easier it is these days. Starting off neutral (instead of friendly) with 3/4 used to be such a grind - but I really wanted that Pi/2 mount.
I blame the new math.

What?

The game is not static, it changes.
You may not agree with the changes, but Blizzard makes decisions based on how many new subscriptions they can get. The starting level area change was made so as to not intimidate new players. How would you feel with absolutely no MMO experience, jumping into a game where monsters kill you repeatedly before you have fully figured out how the interface works? The change just means you will encounter hostile creatures at level 6 instead of 4.
If you do not agree with the changes, you have the option to stop giving them your money and go play some other game.

If a game truly sucks, it will die. Seeing as WoW is growing, I think Blizzard knows what they are doing, at least for the most part.

When I first started, I ran around spamming frost armor, wondering why the wolves outside ironforge weren't dying.

That is all.

Health and Mana Regeneration: These regeneration rates have been increased by up to 200% for low level characters. As a player's level increases, the regeneration rates gradually reduce, returning to normal rates at level 15.

They really went toooo far huh.....

Glancing Blows: The mage, warlock, and priest classes no longer have an increased chance for their melee attacks to be glancing blows; and the damage penalty due to their glancing blows is the same as for other classes.

But look! A nerf!

Spell Mana Costs: These costs have been reduced for almost all lower level spell ranks.

And then you see this..

It's a buff Smiley: wink
They used to have a higher chance to have glancing blows (which do reduced damage) and I think they had a higher reduction in damage too.

So melee priest/mage/lock GO!

It's not just Durotar, I noticed the same with the Defias bandits in the human starting area the other day, when I was wondering why they weren't aggro'n me like I remember. It's all for the good really, I remember it being very frustrating "back in the day" when I was learning to play.
