I think you'd either have to have a lot of extra money lying around or be pretty desperate to accept this. Lets put this into perspective. You can buy Original WoW, Burning Crusade, AND get a free month (/w original) for 30 bucks total. This is ridiculously over priced.

agree 100%. the price was set that high to limit demand, not as a reflection of any of the actual "work" involved in the process.

On a related note, just thought this was funny:

Characters level 10 and above are eligible for a Faction Change.

Thirty dollars... to save 2 hours...

What?

0-80 takes 8-9 days played if you are dedicated, 10-15 for the average player

Lets call it 8 days played.

Then to get gear you need about 18 hours played (toc/nax 10+ulduar/toc raid pugs) more if you don’t find a decent guild/pug.

That’s 210 hours in the best possible scenario. $0.14/hour

What is going to be funny for the next few weeks is the fake “elitism” of “oh I bet you’ve only been horde for a day. GTFO alliance kiddy”

Plus people in tier9 are going to be asking for directions in undercity =P

Honestly I think this faction change will be used more by arena people that got sick of constant re-rolling to team up with good partners, raiders that want more options or just to try something new, and people that like to play battlegrounds..

As for most of the casuals in this thread saying they wouldn’t use it, not surprising.

I am taking a break from wow till 3.3 is on the ptr

If the battlegrounds are still a majority win for horde I'll prob make my rogue undead, priest undead and paladin bloodelf (till tauren)

I think it really depends on if the battlegrounds change much for me...I also think a lot of the kids that rolled bloodelf will be rolling worgen so alliance will get even weaker

I would love to move my rich undead mage to finance my poor old NE hunter that couldn’t afford a mount. He has been collecting dust in Darnassus since TBC started. I only went Horde to play with my friends but they all stopped playing. But $30 + $20 is way to much, do you think this price will ever come down or should I just accept the rip off and do it?

I plan at least one. And I will RP it, since I like RP. It'll be after the expansion. My Gnome Warlock is revealed to have been a Goblin agent in disguise, who was spying on the Alliance in preparation for the upcoming Goblin/Horde Alliance.

The only downside is that I'll have to level 'chanting again on some other toon Ally side.

It's still $30 that I can use on more useful stuff... like gas for my car, food, random-street-party-dance-off-marathon-running thing... etc.

I really, really hope Blizzard releases some demographic info on this change. I really want to see how the transfers shake down: if more people turn alliance or more people turn horde, what races people are most likely to become, and so on.

If I had to guess, I’d say that human would be the most popular single race to become, as arena junkies jump ship to what is perceived as the most powerful PVP racial set, and gnomes come in dead last due to their small set of possible classes that does not include druid.

I am in the process of leveling an Undead priest. I will stop playing her when I hit 80 with her in anticipation of the expansion. I have a 80 druid and paladin on the same server that I am using to fund her as of right now. When cataclysm comes out I will be changing the priest to a Gnome priest (I have wanted to play a gnome healer since beta) and create a guild named <Gnomes or go home>. Lame, I know, but that is how I roll......:)

No way would I change factions. Forget it. Not worth the money, not enough value to me.

I can understand why some people would, but I am not one of them.

I think it's possible the opposite could happen. Supposing all those Alliance who think the only reason they lose BG's is because they're Alliance, rather than because they cap nodes and run off leaving them undefended, transfer Horde side and inflict their badness on us? Now we've got our badness plus their badness plus some hardcore arena peeps changing to Alliance for the racials resulting in a worse pool of PVPers overall.

I think a lot of the transferring will depend on server though. My server forums are already lit up with Alliance talking about transferring, but none of the reverse. I believe the most progressed guilds are Horde.

That entirely depends tbh.

If you're transfering your level 44 orc warrior to an alliance server, than yes.

But we just had a guy transfer his T8 geared Blood Elf pld to a Dwarf Paladin - it would take several months for him to have geared up a new character to that degree.

XP is cheap and easy, good gear takes a while.

bodhi? lol

i was referring to the amount of effort on blizz's end, not the player.

Where was this two years ago?

No sh*t!

Two years ago, I would have used this service when my old Horde guild disbanded and we rerolled Alliance. I have two high level hunters and two high level warlocks, plus a few alts, because of this. I would have loved back then to have a paid faction change. Now, forget about it. There is no point for me.

Face it Blizzard, for me you are a few years too late and $60 short.

Now, I might reconsider this decision when Blizzard pushes the paid race changes through, but only if those paid changes include Worgen and Goblin. And only if they release it in a timely manner...I'm not asking for new Worgen/Goblin race changes from day 1 of Cataclysm, but if Blizzard decides to wait 6 months or more I can reroll a new race alt quicker.

While I am not against Blizzard having this service (in fact, I think it is a welcome, much needed change) I wish they would have implimented it a long time ago.

When this goes live, I may do it, if I have the money (still to see if it's gonna cost £30 or if the price will be the £ equivalent of $30). I'm mainly considering it because my Undead Warrior is 5 years old and only level 72. I just can't stand to look at his elbows any more!

I would assume this applies to low level twinks. The effort and funds involved in twinking a low level twink can be pretty big, so it may appeal to someone that doesn't want to duplicate the effort. But, I thought low level twinks were going the way of the Dodo with the recent XP in BGs change.

As for the faction change, I will not be doing this on any toons. Too pricey. I also wouldn't want to break up the symbiosis of my toons' professions. And, I just personally think it shouldn't be possible, but to each their own.

Have to wonder what this will do for quests. I noted that faction specific quests will be deleted from your list and reputations will get transfered per their list, but I wonder if you can take an 80 to the other faction and do all the northrend quests for the new faction. That could add up to a few coppers.....

Our Horde guild is doing Naxx 10 tonight for the first time. I'm the only one with any experience. I wish I had 60 bucks to pay for one of our alliance tanks to transfer for the evening and back...

You mean switch over and play alongside the same people that boo Alliance at Blizzcon and crush me in AV? (No thank you.) lol

Seriously, I'm happy enough in my guild. If I was changing, I wouldn't mind seeing the non-Worgen/Goblin Cataclysm racials first. Plus, I really think that $30 to switch faction has hit the gouging level.

There will be no faction change for my hunter but a race change is in order whenever they get it working (orc racials are much better for a hunter).

Call me an idiot, but...

Ellieann had done her best, and while she was able to prevent Crusader Bridenbrad from joining the forces of the Scourge, she found herself infected by the same disease. By a terrible stroke of misfortune, she was unable to return to Highlord Tirion Fordring or A'dal, and wasted away in a small pocket of Icecrown.

She awoke one morning, surrounded by rotting cadavers and bloated abominations. In a panic, she tried to flee, but was gently restrained by the undead that surrounded her. They informed her that, sadly, she was living no longer, but now one of the Forsaken. She had been found and brought to Undercity in time to save her from becoming Scourge herself, but could not prevent her from her undying. In a fit of despair, she cast off all that she used to be, renaming herself Evilynne.

Yes, I pinked up the $30. I look at it this way- I make more than $30 per hour- I can spend $30 changing factions, which saves me hours of leveling another toon. She's going to mainly be a farmer for my lowbie, so I at least can experience all the Horde-side quests properly on my Tauren druid. But now, Proudfoot's got a sugar momma! Smiley: grin

Not sure if I'm going to transfer my Warrior to Alliance or transfer one of my Alliance toons to Horde to support her leveling. Having low funds and no high level moneybot is teh sucks.

Haven't been in such a situation since, uh, Vanilla.
