Is there an in depth guide to choosing a class anywhere? Ive gone through all of the classes until at least level 10 and I cant quite decide which to go with. I was hoping there was somewhere online that could possibly give me more info. Ive been to the official site, wowwiki, and here I was just hoping for a bit more information on the matter, thank you.

I feel your pain, I have every class up to 66+ and I *still* can't pick a class!

You should try a paladin or a druid, as they can both tank/heal/DPS, so you can always switch it up if you get bored.

Level them to 20? Which one did you enjoy the most? Pick that one.

Find out what kind of player you are first.

Do you enjoy melee or far ranged more?
Do you like to lead or follow?
Are you prepared to take on the responsibility of keeping your party alive?

Hopefully those help you narrow down your classes.

I kind of narrowed it down a bit, I have a 16 warlock and 32 paladin, but still am having problems deciding. I love the paladin because I can rush in and moderately survive many mobs, plus all the work I put in Ghostlands rep. But my warlock seems very diverse and in later levels seems really powerful. Any other suggestions?

Warlocks are sort of a more complex class. Also, being a cloth wearer, they won't likely survive a toe to toe battle with multiple mobs, like a paladin can.

Is it just me or does the paladin seem bland compared to a warlock?

Paladin's are one of the more painful classes to play and level. They don't have nearly as many offensive spells as most other classes.

The warlock on the other hand, has many, many, many spells to kill people with and has many ways to destroy is enemies.

I mean, I love the look of cloth armor, and like I said, the array of spells of a warlock are awesome, but with all the work I put into my pally I wonder if I should give him a bit more of a shot. By the way I have a level 11 NE druid I was thinking of leveling, I hear they are painful though. I was thinking of starting over as tauren since my guild and all are horde.

Also was going to ask about rogues, I hear they solo well, but only up against 1 mob at a time is this true?

I can't comment much on the paladin or rogue, as I've only got a warlock. However, being a lock player myself, I tend to only use 4-5 abilities during combat, not counting the demon. Rotation of DoTs, then spam my attack, while the demon holds the mob(s) at bay.

My brother has a paladin and he too seems to use only a few abilities, while fighting and he does great. I'm not sure what spec he is, but he's lvl 80.

druids are really only painful to level to 20. After that (Kitty form) it is supposed to be a lot easier. Unfortunately I only had the patience to level mine to 16 or so.

It's painful all the way to 80, because in cat form there aren't very many attacks to choose from.

The only upside is the fact that you rape face so much, the monotony is bearable.

(I found leveling my rogue much more satisfying then the druid)

Every class has it's own play style (which can even vary by spec), and how you play them can also depend on level.

A pally doesn't have a whole lot of different abilities you constantly use, which can make it seem boring. But it's a powerful/versatile class.
Warlocks can have a ton of abilities, but chances are you may only really use three keys (using a VW then CoA/corr/wand will get you really far).
Rogues/druids can get by for a long time just spamming 2-3 buttons, but stealthing around can be quite fun.
A hunter can level to 80 doing nothing but sending his pet in and using autoshot. Sounds boring? It is. But hunter is probably the easiest class to level, and puts out major damage at 80.
If you want a challenge, maybe play a mage. But even a mage can be boring for a good player.
Shaman are versatile, and being able to heal yourself is a plus. But it can be just as repetitive as any other class.

What I guess I'm really trying to say is that all of the classes are boring, yet fun. It really depends on the player, and what they like. I love warlocks, and have two at 80. I hated levelling my shaman, but like healing instances/raids. My priest wasn't terribly exciting to level, but is fun to heal on. I hate playing rogue (highest is only 20-something), yet wish I had one at 80. I'm more of a ranged pew-pew type person, but playing my DK is fun when I can find a run. (DK is also great for solo.) I find levelling a pally to be somewhat boring until higher levels, but still love it.

It's a love/hate thing.

I can't sit here and say if you have been playing the class all day and nothing excites you that you probably wont like it in the long run. I switched to a DK from my 68 Hunter as I got bored of range DPS for 68 lvls and wanted to be up in the action with my Retadin brother. My DK is 68 now and have not regretted changing as it has been hella fun. It took me about 5 levels to understand the job but knew in the first couple lvls it was a good decision.

If I were you, I would really sit down and read up on job spells, buffs, solo ability, group roll and anything else and really try to hammer a decision out. I played with my brother some years back and had lvled a mage to about 40 and a warrior to 37. After lvling another range class and another melee class, up-in-the-mobs-face-weapon swinging action is really fun and you don't have to kite in PvP like range classes do, usually (Hunter, Mage, Warlock, magic Druid spec whatever it is). Another reason why I gave up on Hunter as I got tired of kiting, just wasn't fun.

I like being the chaser instead of being the chased.

Good luck to you as they are fun classes.

Only read the first 3-5 replies, so sorry if I'm repeating something, but the kid with teh plate of food is getting restless, couldn't read 'em all and I wanted to yap :P

I've got 3 paladins across 3 different servers and about the same with warlocks.

As I started each paladin, I thought the same thing, how freaking boring... but I really, really enjoy my highest level paladins survivability and really enjoy my highest level locks spells and trickery.

All things considered, I think I've enjoyed the paladin a lot more than any other class I've tried. I keep thinking druid would be something I would enjoy, but my highest is 28 right now, as I just can't seem to make it to 30 on any of 'em. Maybe the mount changes coming will help encourage me to level one of them up higher, but for now, my vote is for paladin.

There's just something about being able to take a heck of a beating, give a really good one, and heal myself all with the same character. I mainly solo also though, so that may have something to do with it, just not having to count on someone else.

My most recent paladin, I'm trying to start over on a new server, and I've been trying to make an effort to hit instances and get in groups just to get a btter feel for how they play in a group setting. So far, I think I love paladins even more!!

Really cool running as a tank, but having the ability to still toss out a heal here or there if the healer is having trouble, and to cure diseases and stuff while I'm tanking.

I hadn't seen all the new paladin stuff that's been added, like exorcism being able to be used on any mob, not just undead/demon mobs, and the new taunt they have. The taunt alone has made leveling a lot smoother experience. I seem to remember having to run in and hope to only pull one or two mobs but now I can just stand back and pick which one I want until they are all gone.

Sorry for teh long post, but the kid calmed down and I guess I got on a roll :-P

Short Version: Just keep playing... the one you keep gtting pulled to log in to, that's your guy/gal.

If I do go melee, is a warrior as easy to solo as a pally? I have a level 32 pally, I would think a pally is easier because it can heal, and take on multiple mobs, but a warrior does more damage, especially with dual wield, any thoughts?

I personally don't think warriors deal that much more damage than paladins, if any, when soloing.

With a pally you get self buffs, the auras, and can spec retribution, which is a great DPS spec right now, and still spam heals on yourself.

I haven't, if you can't guess, got very far with warriors either :P That boring part when starting a paladin seems to stick around even longer with a warrior.

Of course, you can probably get into tanking for more groups with a warrior, but I would venture to say it's not going to be that much different getting in with a paladin.

I heart paladins.

As manicshock said "Which one did you enjoy the most? Pick that one." If you aren't enjoying the game/class then don't play it...choose another game/class. I intend to give every class a shot at some point. The best way to really enjoy the game in my opinion is to get to know every aspect of your toon'(s). Research helps but you gotta get out there and play the class. You can never get the information your asking for from reading forums or doing research although that is helpful and recommended. Go have fun.

Yep, good advice seattan.

Even when you've been playing the same class for awhile, and think you know it in and out, try something different with it.

I've even learned spells, and forgot about 'em for an extended time, then on a whim, open the spell book and think, Holy crap, that would be great for that time I was overwhelmed by 3 mobs, or whatever the situation.

I really haven't read up that much on rotations, and the best way to "use" each class, but I've tried to be open to accepting advice when someone offers and have tried to not get into a set way to do everything. Your whole rotation could change by discovering one spell that goes together better with another, or maybe the addition of a trinket or weapon to your standing way of doing things.

Try 'em all, and then come back after some leveling and tell us what ya think.

All classes are easy to level these days, you will be using 2 or 3 spells on all of them. The question is what you want to do in end-game? Healing, tanking or dps.
