Hello Everyone:

I have been playing the trial version of The Wrath Of The Lich King. And now I want to get the regular version. But when I went to the store to get it, it says I need another version and that one says I need the full/classic version. How can I tell all of the different versions apart? Which one is the first version I need to start with? I have added a link of the one I think I need to start with. But I am not sure.

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=3132285

I do not want to down load the game from their website. I want to buy it and buy the game cards in the store.

Any Ideas?

Thanks

In order to play World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King you need

World of Warcraft

and

World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade

Or you can get the World of Warcraft Battle Chest, which has both of those combined in one package for slightly less money.

If I'm understanding your correctly, you're saying that you have been playing on a trial account, and you wish to upgrade to a regular player account now.

If so, you'll need the product that you linked to (what we usually call "Vanilla WoW" here) as a bare minimum. By itself, it'll let you play as high as level 60. However, you will not be able to enter the new areas added in the two later expansions, such as the Draenei and Blood Elf homelands, Outland or Northrend. You also won't be able to play the new races or class introduced in them, including the Draenei and Blood Elf races and the Death Knight class. If you are satisfied with those limitations for now, you'll just need that one product.

If you later wish to level beyond level 60, and/or you wish to play a Blood Elf or Draenei race character, then you will also need to buy the Burning Crusade expansion. That will let you play the new races and level up to 70, and it'll give you access to Outland.

Then, if you later wish to level beyond level 70, access the Northrend area, or play a Death Knight, you'll also need the Wrath of the Lich King expansion.

In other words, each expansion requires you to have bought the original game and all of the previous expansions before it'll work.

I think there may also be products which box together the plain game with one or both expansions at a reduced price, but I bought them all individually at different times so I'm not positive.

Does that answer your questions?

anyone know if you can play wow with just vanilla wow and the Lich King expansion? Just curious is all. I suppose you can, but can't play a blood elf. But what would happen to my blood elf characters in my account?

I need to reload wow on my computer. I have physical copies of vanilla and lich king, but BC was a download. Anyone know how I "redownload" Burning Crusade? How do I prove I bought it? And I hope I can download it as many times as I need to (like getting a new computer etc.) Anyone know about the download system? thanks for any help.

No, you need TBC to play WOTLK, and I believe it says so right on the WOTLK box. You can't get to lvl 80 unless you can first get to lvl 70, and you can't do that without TBC.

That I don't know, I have physical copies of all my games and xpacs. When you figure out how, though, you should probably burn the files onto a disc and save them, as it will save you time next time you have to rebuild your computer.

I would assume at the time you bought it you were given an authentication code, much like the ID code that comes with the discs, and you should have saved that.

If you have played Lich King before you reset your PC, your account is upgraded to Lich King. It should also say so on your WoW account page. When have to reinstall WoW on your computer you can either use your physical copies of the game or download all of it from the WoW site. Simply log on to your account page and you should see a button called "Download Game Client" under "Free Services". This is quoted from the WoW site:

Quote:
The universal installer can download and install every version of World of Warcraft, including Wrath of the Lich King and The Burning Crusade. If you already have an active World of Warcraft account and simply need to install or reinstall the game or its expansions, you can download all full World of Warcraft clients using our installation program.

After selecting the product you wish to install (World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, or World of Warcraft), the installer automatically identifies which files you need to download and installs them on your hard drive.

Please note that in order to play or access expansion content after installation, you will need to log in using an active World of Warcraft account that has been upgraded to the appropriate product level.

There should be no product keys or anything needed, I just reset my system the other day and everything worked fine. Blizz doesn't really care if you install your WoW copy on 50 computers at the same time, it's you only playing on your own account and not being able to log in to your account on 2 computers at the same time what is important.

Hope that helps.

thx. the one question was obvious I guess lol, I wasn't thinking. Yeah you can't get up to 70 without BC. Although... I wonder if you could grind enough mobs in Winterspring to get up to 68. I think at 68 they'd go gray.

You'd be able to download it from the Account section on the WoW website. However you don't need to download it, the WotLK DVD contains all three clients so just slot in your WotLK disk onto a computer that doesn't have WoW installed and it'll install the three games upto 3.0.1.

I didn't take my DK to Outlands until 67 because I was doing the Cenarion Circle grind in Silithus, so I suppose it's certainly possible, but the WOTLK box does say "Requires The Burning Crusade expansion" on the front.

There's also the Level 70 mobs outside Kara that you'd be able to get exp off of.

Though I have to wonder if the "requires BC" means just to level past 60. Wonder if you'd be able to get just WoW Classic and Wrath and play a level 60 capped Death Knight...

No. I'm not sure why people keep questioning this, you can only upgrade to WotLK if you already have a Burning Crusade account, if you don't have a BC account it simply won't allow you to enter a Wrath key.
