WTF? Haxxored?Follow

I got an email from Blizzard at 5am saying that my account has been temporarily suspended because someone's accessed my account that's not supposed to have been using it. My password's been reset and I can't log on for 24 hours! WTF?!

Has anyone else encountered this? I'm using my housemate's laptop, but it's got ZoneAlarm and AVG Antivirus installed, so I'd assumed that it's pretty safe. Now I'm just worried that, even after my account's resumed, what's to stop someone getting access again? What if I've been cleared out of all my gold?! I've not given my password out to any phishers, in case you're thinking that...

If anyone's got any advice or has had this problem before, please reply and let me know.

Thanks

Not personally but there's been a new thread with the same story every couple of days.

Chances are that the hack resulted from you downloading an add-on that wasn't entirely legit (no, not saying you were cheating, saying the add-on was bad, not you).

If whomever grabbed your account did anything bad then you file a ticket and the GMs will use one of your restores to give back anything you've lost.

Be careful. Many people get fake emails, trying to get them to click a link and enter their logon and password. Never click a link from a random email you receive. Go to the legitimate website directly, like the wow main site, and investigate from there.

Hello I had to make an account just to post to this. Last year the same thing happended to me, when I contacted Blizzard directly on the phone they informed me that some lap tops do not have the same protection as others. Some advice they gave me was to change my password after every use until I was on a different pc (was a pain but kept it from happening again).

Either you misunderstood him or he was feeding you total ********* Any computer can have any form of software (or hardware for that matter) protection that I personally know of.

As you work through finding your problem, go ahead and order the Blizzard Authenticator.

Ok It's possible that wasn't even a real email. Gold farmers and other 'leet hackers' (aka script kiddies who have learned how to download keylogging programs) will send you fake emails from Blizzard in hopes that you will click on the link and infect your own computer. If you clicked a link in it, it will likely be too late. Always contact Blizzard by phone if you receive an email like that, just to be on the safe side.

I notice that a lot of fake emails and embedded keyloggers pop up around a major patch or national holiday. So always be extra careful around those times.

Thanks for the replies everybody. I've taken this as an opportunity to take a break from WoW and do some rl stuff (Xmas shopping, anybody? :P)
I'm fairly certain that the email was legit. I got an email with my account name in it, and another with a temporary password. Sure enough, when I tried to log on the next day, it said that my account had been suspended, so I'm sure that this actually happened. I've just no idea how my password could've been gotten. I've not downloaded anything lately, and neither has my housemate.

I think that, once I get to the bottom of this, I'll go ahead and get the Blizzard Authenticator. It's only £4.80, and my WoW gold is worth way more than that!

Cheers.
