I thought it was funny, I was playing saturday night at midnight, died in an instance right then and got the achievement, I didnt have to log out/in to get it.
Then all of a suddon we saw everyone in guild DC/Reconnect to get the achievement. :) I love my bear!

I put the little guy out for awhile while I was questing in contested territory. Then I realized that A: he makes me easier to spot and B: he makes me possible to spot while stealthed. So I put him away.
A little while later, I was killing some mobs for a quest when a trio of Alliance people came by. Two of them were rogues, one of the rogues had a bear out. I stealthed myself and took cover til I could see what they were doing.
A high-level Horde member came traipsing by, and killed one of them. The rogues stealthed and made a break for it, but the one still had his bear out, which lead the Horde character right to him.

He logged on today when I told him about the Bear and the achievement and he still got it. So if you didn't get the chance to log on yesterday, try today and you might still get it.
I logged in this morning and people were still getting the achievement...can't confirm the pet itself, but I would think they go hand-in-hand.

I received the bear in my mail (I checked mail today). It is in my bag on both my characters, but I cannot summon it. I only get the message "you already know this spell" (or something similar).
Is this because I did not get it day before yesterday?

You have to use the one in your book. IDK why but the bear "spell" isn't disappearing after you learn it like the others do. On your character screen there is a tab with pets that it should be shown on.

Okay tx, I have not played for a while, I just logged in today after a few weeks, so I have not seen all that new stuff yet ;)

The item doesn't disappear because it's Bind on Account, not Bind on Pickup or Use. You can use the item to summon the bear, then you can keep the item to trade to any alts you decide to make on that server.
