I am sick and tired of seeing gold seller or power leveling service adverts spammed in trade or LFG and general chat. Always click and report spamming and hope that others are doing so to.

My two questions are: Do you care? We know that people are using these services and so this affects us in someway also most of us work hard to lvl fast and/or make gold. People who use these services take the %&$% out of us. What can be done about it? I dont think blizz are doing enough stop it.

Right click report yes done.

Then again it's very very very rare I have trade channel on, and what's the difference between gold spam and ****** spam from the legitimate customers?

Not much. Any game that has virtual currency will be plagued by gold sellers. Just thank the team at Blizzard that the world drops are indeed Random World Drops. Nothing worse than playing FFXI, trying to get a drop but seeing a team of gold (gil) sellers there camping the mob. You could tell that they were most likely gold sellers due to not having a linkshell and all having really short names, like 3-4 characters long at most.

Lately, I haven't see much if any gold selling on Cenarius. I never really have the trade channel on (tell the truth, I've never even used the trade channel for anything). NOr have I seen any in LFG. Things are much better than a year ago.

I get the same mail from the same person about buying gold every day. I report it each time, but they don't seem to be banning this person. I'm about fed up.

Wow! I see all the gold selling spam on general and trade all the time and just tend to report and /ignore, but have yet to have gold spammers hit my mail box! That would annoy the hell out of me!

One of the best things about the zombie plague was that gold sellers got killed.

Do I care about the spam or the fact that people are using the services?

The spam is annoying and that's why I report them.

I dont really care that I put in the time and effort to earn enough gold to buy [insert expensive vanity item here] while some idiot paid $500 RL cash for it, ****, if I could sell my in game gold for RL cash I'd do so in a blink.

I also dont care that someone paid several hundred dollars to have thier toon PL'd - personally I enjoy leveling my toons and I think anyone who's willing to pay others to play the game for them is also stupid.

Blizz has done quite a bit actually - not too long ago they did a mass banning of gold seller accounts and really put a dent into them. They also had a successful lawsuite to shut down a company that was marketing a bot program that gold sellers used to PL clients and thier pharming toons. They've prevented the gold sellers from doing spam emails through the game's mail system and it would appear they've also stopped the spam whisper bots and spam invite bots.

So yeah, they've done quite a bit to stop this crap.

As for /trade /general and /LFG - lol - being in any of those is so annoying (even without gold sellers) that I always close them anyway.

Who should we be more annoyed with? The gold spammers in trade or the people who allowed their accounts to get hijacked because they tried cheating or weren't smart enough to use simple internet safety tips?

In addition to the report and /ignore, I always send them obnoxious tells. Sure, they probably don't understand a word I'm saying but what are they going to do? Report me for hassling them for doing something that is against the EULA and will get them banned anyways?

Report, /ignore and hassle them all I say.

There's an excellent addon called SpamMeNot or some-such, I forget the exact name of it.

Anyways, it offers extra controls over spam.

Once you set it properly, you will likely never, ever, ever see gold seller ads ever again.

And guess what? You can add C.Norris and **** to the addon's list, so that you will never, ever, ever see another **** or C.Norris joke, period.

I switched from playing Alliance to Horde and I rarely see Norris jokes anymore. :-) Maybe you should try that. That is a pretty cool add on though, I might try it.

I don't get bothered by spam-bots too often, but when it does happen I always report them. I'm just thankful that Blizzard has more of a handle on the gold sellers than Squeenix does. I partied with gold sellers a couple times by accident when I played FFXI years ago, and it was horrible. They caused our party to be wiped several times, and of course couldn't speak English and couldn't be bothered to use the auto translator. And then of course there was the issue with camping mobs that dropped good gear, which made it impossible for regular players to have a chance to get it.

I used SpamMeNot a while ago when goldselling was rampant on my server (it's calmed down quite a bit now), but it would always ignore legitimate players or group invites. Not sure if it's changed since then, but it got pretty annoying.

If I'm in town (rare event these days, unless I'm trying to make money), I'm usually on both my accounts simultaneously on the same faction. It merely takes a couple seconds to report someone on both accounts.

In regards to "****" chat, trade (and for that matter, local as well) chat gets very quiet - eerily quiet sometimes. Some of the C. Norris jokes are funny though. If he's a good sport (which I hope), I'm sure he'd laugh at them too.

It could be worse.

Atleast in WoW, I have yet to run into or have to compete for mobs with a RMT farmer. In FFXI any rare spawn you might want to camp... forget it, there is always RMTs all over it. Find a good selling item that is dropped from regular mobs... forget it, RMTs are all over them too.

In WoW so far the only time I have to compete for a mob is when others are questing same mobs. Or atleast I think they are real players. They get their kills and move on.

Imagine having to kill 12 orges for a quest but there is an RMT or 2 there that are warp hacking to mobs as they spawn. You come back in an hour and they are still there. They farm those same mobs 24/7 for drops to AH/craft/vendor. Welcome to FFXI.

WoW isnt so bad. Spam is annoying but can be fixed with report or ignore.

Well, SpamMeNot, Spam Sentry, etc...

Either works, pick the plugin of your choice.

*grins* Add **** and C.Norris to the list and enjoy a world of blissful WoW'ing.

Most bots' spam contain certain phrases nobody would ever use in normal conversation (and any good spam plugin would have filters such as automatically allowing Guild/Group/Raid chat no matter what it contains), etc.

And then, there's always what I do:

/leave trade

That helps quite a bit too, I do that unless I actually need something, then I'll join it. I find that even if you filter out ****, C.Norris, and bot-spam, there's still far too much idiocy in Trade.

I still have mental scars from before the Election, when the populace in Trade tried to act like they actually knew what they were talking about (Clue: 90% of them damn well didn't) and tried to talk politics.

Nothing worse than a clueless shmuck trying to talk about politics when they know absolutely nothing about it.

Oh wait, there is something worse than that. A whole city full of them trying to do it simultaneously.
