Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone here or any of you die-hard wow players ever feel sick from using the computer too much and if it affects your ability to play the game.

We've heard of the stories of some Chinese guy dying after playing wow for 3 days straight.

do you guys ever get headaches or other pains from playing too much?

Quite the contrary; I play WoW when I'm feeling tired or sick. It gives me a distraction and something soothing and familiar to look at. TV sucks and I don't feel like lying on the couch doing nothing.

Computers in themselves don't make you ill, but playing for hours without breaks, or missing sleep/food for more play time will make you ill.

Best thing you can do is to be diligent about taking breaks. Ideally you should get up every hour for 10 minutes. Walk around, get a drink, look at things far away etc.

Also, even though it's nice to have oodles of new things to do, you shouldn't sit and play all day without a few hours of doing something active.

Take a walk, go play fetch with Fido, SOMETHING.

In short, yes it can make you sick and much more quickly than you might think.

Only problem I get from lots of gaming is red eyes. You don't blink as much when you use your computer, and consequently after a few hours your eyes can dry out. It makes my eyes feel tired, but they look far worse than they feel; people think I was out all night drinking :-P

I stayed up until 8am after the midnight launch and then got 3 hours of sleep.

I got sick ... My throat was killing me for two days after that. Exhaustion weakens your immune system.

Today was my engagement party and I woke up with no voice! Thankfully, a bowl of cereal, a quad-espresso and some Ricola's later and my voice came back for just long enough to talk to 100 people for hours ...

Hmm... a single-poster, asking questions about gaming, and implying that it's dangerous to game too much. This is the kind of stuff that ends up on some Miami lawyer's desk as "proof" that gaming is bad. Be very wary about posting responses to this yahoo, since he probably has an agenda.

I dont sleep well if I spend too much time in front of the computer, while I mentally tired I am not physically tired and it sucks.

I don`t get ill, though I have never played any epic stretches and know enough that if I don`t break up my game play and do something physical that it will make me feel like a surly hump and affect me when I work or interact with people.

Yes, it seems like this is the new way of doing a "survey". We got wise to people posting the biased surveys so now they post directly on a forum, give us a line and say "anyone else had experience like this?" so we can hang ourselves.

Older PC monitors are supposed to be hard on your eyes which can fatigue you.

My engagement party is in 11 days, and at the today my throat decided it wanted to flair up, but I haven't had much of a chance to play the game.

Seems like I'm getting all the negative things that happened to you, and none of the positive things.

Doing ANYTHING non-stop for three days straight is sure to mess with your body. The guy you speak of was probably doing it consistently and his body finally gave out because of that reptition, probably due to other underlying causes.

I wouldn't worry about it... just get regular rest, food, water, use the bathroom when your body insists, and you'll be fine. Oh, fresh air once in awhile might help to :). Five minutes outside can do wonders for anyone cramped up indoors all day for any reason!

I'm sick most of the time and it sorta keeps me on the pc more than I'd like, but for your question I'll say no. Sometimes it can pep me up a little bit on a bad day.

I've had times where I've felt kinda bad after playing for a long time, but not with WoW. I feel it's more of a mental thing. I'm sure if I were to be questing up to 80 for 8-10 straight hours I would start to get a little sick like what has happened if I get stuck in a long poker tourny.

But with WoW I really cannot do it. Before the patch I could go 8 hours of raids, but that was more mentaly challenging and there was always convos going on, but I can't quest for more then 1 maybe 2 hours at a time due to how boring it is. At the moment I'm playing for a few hours then taking a hour break or so and I'm doing fine.

I don't typically get ill from sitting in front of my computer all day, but I have been known to OD on some MMOs. It's only when you play for more than a day with no food or sleep, that it'd be cause for concern. I just turned 23, but I have the sleeping habits of a kitten, and the eating habits of an HeavyD. :P I die without my 6 meals a day/6-7 hours of sleep.

...and this better not be a 'study' that gets conclusive wording from a thread less than 20 posts long. xD

wow makes me happy but excessive anything in front of a PC can make you feel a bit queasy. That includes work but most employers wont let you take 10 mins away every hour... I find just getting a drink or snacks or a smoke (if you are that way inclined) every hour or so is enough to keep the eyes and brain happy.

it's not so much the computer but rather three straight days of drinking coffee in the morning and beer in teh afternoons and evenings leading to some dehydration and headaches after that.

in my "travel 8 months of a year" lifestyle, i find that logging into a couple of hours of wow or even a bit of wow at nights relaxes me...

it does hurt when...

1) posture, slouching will stress/strain your shoulder-neck muscles, as will with any prolonged computer use
2) dry eyes, my eyes, when over stressed, gets dry and stings... got to see a doc about that one.
3) carpal tunnel... over use of the mouse for the past 20 years, numbness stretch from my elbow to mid, ring & pinky fingers... early sign of Carpal Tunnel, as i've been told...

but aside from that.. i enjoy the mental relaxation from playing the game.

I set up my computer with a sunlamp mounted on top of the monitor. Because I get a tan as I play, I at least look like I've been outdoors. Of course finding the right pair of eye protection was a problem.

LOL, if your anything like me, you would be entirely sunburnt by the time you stop playing.

I honestly do believe computer do make you sick. Its not because of the actual computer, just the lack of exercise/movement/bloodflow that you get while sitting in front of it.

I have some friends at work that come in, sit down at their computer for 10 hours, go home and sit there for 10 hours playing wow. When I ask how one woman manages to keep in shape, she say THIGH MASTER. And she wasnt kidding, she uses it at night when she gets home all night. It keeps her circulation up and her muscles moving.

Thats when I said, maybe the thigh master is funny, but it helps to keep your body in movement, even if your doing hardly any physical activity at all.

Also, you might want to get the most ergonomical keyboards/desks/lights, whatever. It certainly helps with the average strain your body goes through sitting at your computer for hours and hours nonstop.

Au contraire.

CRT monitors are full of lead and emit small amounts of x-ray radiation, which has been proven to make people ill.

Edit to add a few things: The older the monitor the more radiation it emits. Though the amount of radiation emitted is considered unharmful, it has made people ill, I know my uncle is extremely affected by it, thus when working on CRT monitors at his work, he can't work on one for more than 3 hours before starting to feel queasy.
