Well, that is the exact reason they said gave on the log-in screen ;-)

Quote:
We will be performing an urgent maintenance on all realms starting at 4:00 AM PST. We anticipate no more than three hours of downtime. This maintenance is designed to correct a very recent issue where players were able to obtain certain PvP items without paying the intended price.

Once the maintenance concludes, players who obtained such items will noticethem removed from their inventory. However, any tokens or arena/honor points spenton said gear will be appropriately refunded. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

I don't know how anyone could have looked at the FUBARed prices and thought "Oh, I'll get some of these; Blizzard would NEVER roll back this stuff!"

After reading "The Epic Maintenance Thread" and recovering to nearly post I saw this one and realised what we will be in for.

I wasn't around for the start of BC and as such I am not fully aware of what occured. Judging from what I read/hear/see there will be periods of down time with WoLK as well.

Sit back with your pocorn/beer/whiskey/pop tarts/ whatever you enjoy in excess apart from/with WoW and enjoy the ride, sad that an influx of posters from other forums have downgraded the "intellect level" of posts, but some of the regular posters seem to be having alot of fun with them, which is enjoyable to read.

As much as I (and 10,999,999 other people) are dying to play WoLK, I am going to enjoy whatever happens in the lead up to it because it truly is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Lost one night of prep due to yesterday's maintenance - which works out to ~200G or so for each of my 70s. This effectively prevents me from having my mage's epic flyer before WotLK hits tomorrow. ::grumble:: It was just barely going to work out, too.

Lost my guild's last Kara run as well. Our last run on ZA is scheduled for tonight. As it is, I'm considering bowing out on that to get everything prepared, banks cleared out, inventories weeded, characters logged out on the Zeppelin tower, etc...

On top of that, there's a good chance my office is moving this weekend, which will ruin any chance of getting time to play (I work IT, so "moving" entails 18-hour workdays over a weekend...yay...).

I'm just not having a good week.

Actually the release of BC went incredibly smooth. It was released on a Tuesday, and while there was a routine 4-hour downtime the Tuesday before, on release day there was only rolling restarts. The release of WotLK thus far has actually been surprisingly disappointing. They shouldn't be having issues this major this close to the actual release date, especially since they patched the expansion code onto the servers over a month ago.

Honestly, with all the problems they are facing these days, its gonna take them weeks to recover from it all, not counting the problems wotlk's gonna cause. we're looking at at least a month before they get things back to operational peak. I just wish they would keep things calm and collected instead of throwing stuff into the fan to see what happens. (Their scourge invasion started everything, so i am blaming that. feel free to disagree)

Dont mean to nag or sound rude, but you need to type what you are agreeing with in between the [quote]'s, or else no one has any idea what you mean.

#12Dearheart, Posted: Nov 12 2008 at 6:02 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) After all the problems yesterday, maybe they should have just let it slide. I'm already getting tired of not being able to play.
#13Zaikimaliki, Posted: Nov 12 2008 at 6:10 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i know....they had better not ***** with our wotlk play time (rolling restarts to cure lag storms acceptable) or else they will have a lot of really angry people ringing off the hook complaining about what a poor job they are doing (too much of a bother all the way over here, or i would be one of them)

Gosh, you are such an addict!

If you're annoyed with the service, quit the damn game! If you can't quit the game, or complain this much despite your continued playing, you have a severe problem and should seek therapy. I'm not being sarcastic here, and this isn't only to you but to everyone else who has been complaining as well. If you're not satisfied, then quit your account and go do something else. Money speaks to Blizzard, not QQing. They're obviously doing the best they can, and you have nothing good to say at all.

Edit: I also DO feel free to disagree with the Scourge Invasion starting it. I think what started it all was announcing an exact date for release and then working with that in mind. 3.0.2 jumpstarted the game for a lot of people; they probably could have sailed with it until December with little trouble. At the same time a lot of content hasn't been checked/released/bug-tested yet; inscription is still incomplete, some classes (despite a ton of testing on PTRs) have been slapped back and forth with nerfs and buffs since the patch.

The Scourge Invasion, I feel, was one of the most fun events ever. I don't think it caused the problems, although it may have been one extra thing on their plate that distracted them a bit more from making sure everything is ready for the expansion. Again, a later release date would have been a better idea.

I'm very disappointed with the part of the player base who took advantage of the free gear bug--maybe it's a bit unfair of me, but I feel like maybe if people had behaved in a more adult manner Blizzard would not have felt the need to take the servers offline again.

I'm racing to hit 50 on my warrior before midnight tonight; losing an extra 3 hours of playtime or so after already not being able to play yesterday is quite frustrating. :(

Can't use it til 77, does it really matter? Do you want to be collecting Outland herbs before leveling through Northrend or something?

the scourge invasion WAS the start of their problems. they should not have done it, or at least waited till release day for it. it would have made the game a great deal more interesting to have the scourge invading right when we can go to northrend....it would also be a bit more believable (hey, the scourge is attacking, we need to go kill the source!!) However, i do agree that waiting a bit longer, or releasing the patch a bit sooner, would have helped things along, giving them more time to sort things out, and what-not, but they did promise us way back a oct-dec 08 release, so they needed to stick with it.

And, as to your suggestion about my addiction.....read my sig.

there's no escaping

They would have had to shut servers down anyways to correct the pvp item prices. Which is what is so wierd about the servers. If they weren't rolling out a patch or update, how did everything break.

If my company performed as well as Blizzard has done lately, I would be out of a job.

Opening that WotLK expansion box will be the equivilent of those poor citizens of Lordaeron opening the infected crates of food. Run man. Run while you still have your free will for the wrath of the Lich King is coming.

I think I will try a 14 day trial with EQ2 while I wait for the dust to settle. I know ban me. I have lurked for a long time and find this a little more upsetting then normal down time. I think it will be a very bad week for down time.

Don't worry, no one gets banned here for trying other games. =D

Maybe nudged over to another part of the site in an attempt to be helpful, but not banned or anything, that would be silly. XD

I agree with you but the fact is only certain classes received said free S2 sets. Had it been all classes then fair enough but its easier for Blizzard to take the "Hey guys we stuffed up. We'll be taking back that gear that you knew wasn't intended to be free" path then to just hand out free welfare epics to everyone (which they did anyway with the scourge invasion).

I wouldn't be complaining if I had just grinded out S3/4 gear. I'd be complaining if I had just purchased the honor acquired arena gear(S1?), then this happens? That's why they will taking it all back.

I really wish people would stop saying this - take a look at the insurance industry: Car, health, life, etc. When they make mistakes they could be in the range of hundreds of thousdands of dollars - impacting people's ability to work, quality of life, and future (i.e. hits to credit score)...yet these companies still operate fine. you could argue that people need insurance, but even then you have options of shopping around in most cases.

Fast food resturants - ***** up orders all the time, but they still sell their burgers.

Consider how much time is really lost by most people...yesterday sucked, but only for people who had it off due to it being a holiday. Today is 3 hours, but even less people are missing out on time.

What % of that 11 million players does this problem really impact? And then of that %, how many of them really care that much?
