Rogue, Mage, or Shammy to Raid in WOTLK?Follow

Hi -

I currently have 3 70s - epic'd rogue that was doing t5 content (alli pvp), welfare epic'd newish 70 mage(alli pvp), and partially epic'd horde 70 shammy on a pve server..

Before I get flamed for not choosing horde on principle...which CLASS do you think will be the most valuable to raids in WOTLK?

I stopped raiding w/ the rogue in the middle of t5 content (downed bosses in TK and SSC, then just used him for pvp, hence the SHS ambush spec). I want to get into raiding again maybe w/ a caster...but can't tell what will be worthwhile..

People are saying 'oh mages will only be used for water and AB...same as the last part of TBC..locks/hunters etc do more damage and have more raid utility'

Rogues are way overplayed and it's almost impossible to find a spot in a good guild on my alli server...just too many of them..

My shammy is elemental but we got nerfed into the ground.....raid utility has been diminished etc....Did I pick the worst classes to raid w/ or what?

What would you lvl first and make your 'main' if you were me?

Thanks for the input...WOTLK is close...I still can't make up my mind.

Odang - 70 Night Elf Rogue - Darkspear PVP
Olmighty - 70 Gnome Mage - Darkspear PVP
Flanksteak - 70 Tauren Shaman - Eitrigg PVE

pick a class that you most enjoy and dont try to satisfy others.

if you're good in your class, it will be known and you will have a home.

Mages do mad damage nowadays, I don't think you have to worry about their dps viability anymore. But I agree, play what you like. Do it well, the invites will follow.

Rogues, Mages, and Shamans have their own 'perks'.

Mages have CC, but so will Shamans in WoTLK. Rogues have sap, but mostly not needed.

Mages have extreme damage in WoTLK, Shamans Elemental spec does fairly well, and a Rogue's dps is about average.

Shamans utility as Elemental/Enhancement is much needed, Mages utility is pretty much their food and cc, and Rogues have no utility to give.

Rogues still have the highest 'survival' rate in both PvP and PvE in WoTLK, Mages have no survival unless spec'd arcane for the instant Invisibility, and Resto Shamans have new abilities to keep themselves, and others, healthy.

The hardball question is what class are you most comfortable playing? What class do you think is most needed (dps, healing, utility)? Would you know what to do in a pinch with this class?

Unfortunately shadowpriests actually do the most damage. I advise you to start over at level one with a shadowpriest. Better get moving; not much time. Also, You must be an undead. Male. And for that last extra dps, you must choose the spiky hair. Green.

No but seriously. Bad question.

you said for yourself Rogues are overplayed, so unless your in a guild that raids now chances are pretty good rogues will remain the least sought after for raid groups.

mages do bring food and water to the table for fellow raiders along with buffs, very nice dps, and cc

shammys not sure what spec you would raid with but you will always have totems which are very useful in a raid setting, off-heals if your not resto specced, also might be req to spec resto in most guilds to raid as a shammy

the key thing here is which toon do you preffer to play, IE have the most fun with, I would start there. I myself have to choose to I have 2-70 rogues (not on same server)70 druid, 70 Mage, 70 Pally, 70 Warrior and 70 Druid and a ton of mid to high 60s, I will be raiding with my druid for sure since i like tanking with him and can still do cat form dps.

Shammies are so under-rated. Maybe not under-rated, but so under the radar. They're a ton of fun to play and extremely versatile, giving you lots of options on how you can best serve your guild needs. Given the choice I'd go with the shammy. I myself have many toons, but consider my rogue and my shammy my two mains. But the bottom line is if you know how to play your class, you're doing better than half of us out there. If you're really good at your class, you can often go where you wanna go despite over-pop. My own guild put a cap on hunters (something that should be done server-wide), but a hunter came along that played his class like no other and had damage like I've never seen. We couldn't let him get away.

I think that mages and rogues are probably more common than shammies. With totems being a raid-wide buff, they are certainly a valuable asset to a raid. Also, you'll have self-rez for wipe prevention. Since shammies can be healer and melee or caster dps, you'll have a few different playstyles to choose from.

Seriously though, roll a shadow priest. And everyone knows that blue hair is higher dps than green.

Raid mechanics have changed, it's about the player not the class, pick which one you enjoy and roll with it.
