I don't play on an RP server, only because I don't have the time to do it justice anymore. I do miss it though. So I have made macros for exactly what you're trying to do. Most everyone loves my macros, so don't let some of the nay-sayers get to you. In PUGs it's about 95% love and 5% hate. Most people on a PvE server ignore the emote and special text anyway. I would suggest /say ing your roleplay instead of yelling so that it doesn't go zone wide though.
Back to your question ... Yes, I've had that (the spam warning message) happen to me on occasion while mashing the spell and forgetting I had an RP macro attached to it. Basically, you must remember to NOT spam mash that spell ever again if you set it up with role-play flavor /emote and /say .. or /party or /whatever... If your lag made it so your spell didn't happen, tap it again after your other cool down is done. I have 60% of my main spells with an RP macro and the same for my secondary spells that I use only occasionally anyway. Staple spells that I try to use constantly, where I spam mash to get them going ... no macro role-play will ever be attached to it. You just have to decide what spells you do NOT have to spam mash, and use those spells for RP and the ones that you're hitting the key as fast as possible... never ever put a macro RP attached to it. Once you start a macro, it will complete and doesn't care if your spell went off or not.
/cast (spell)
/emote (some flavor text here)
/emote smiles at %t as the (more flavor text here)
/say %t ... (more text)
Nice long casting spell that you would never have a need to mash cast works nice. I learned early on that too many emotes and flavor RP will actually have the opposite effect that you're trying to have fun enjoying. Some extra text on a few spells and actions keep your game arena nicely balanced and fun for most everyone. As I said, 60% use on a spell/action type is what I use. I found this to be about pushing the limit to "too much" automated robot role-play.
The instant staple spells can get you into trouble, and I suggest to never link a flavor RP to them unless you rarely ever use the thing or pay close attention to your cooldown timer on your action bar. Spells that have a cooldown that I use a lot sometimes gets me in trouble. Noone likes seeing a string of identical emotes stacked up in their chat window all within about 1 or 2 seconds of time. It's very annoying. However, I actually use this type of macro key (while in cooldown) as a prelude for some of my other spells that do not have flavor text. Depending on the RP flavor text, it might actually be a good thing to use for other spells. So you might tap it again, even though in cooldown, you'll get an error "you can't do that" message on your screen, but that's okay because you just hit one of the non-tagged spells right afterwards (That you can mash cast because there is no RP text on it).
I hope this helps you have fun with your playmates on your realm. Have fun!
