In the midst of a mostly unrelated post about the Druid Balance tree, Ghostcrawler let slip the following: "The dual-spec feature will shine more light on talent design (more on that at Blizzcon) and we'll have a better idea of what we want to do with trees when that goes live." Now I don't know about you all, but as someone who plays a healing class for a main, I am very interested in the dual spec idea. Knowing that we'll get more information on it at Blizzcon, just a few days away, makes me a happy priest indeed.

But what could she mean by the dual-spec feature shining more light on talent design? It's a slightly mysterious statement, but my interpretation is that when everybody can have two specs and switch between them either freely or at least cheaply, the load each spec needs to carry lessens. It's OK if Holy can't solo, because you can just switch to your Shadow spec for that. It's not such a big deal if Combat isn't as strong in PvP; just swap out to Assassination for the BG weekend, and swap back in time to raid. The trees no longer have to be strong in all areas of the game. But that's just guesswork on my part; GC may well have meant something else entirely.

Either way, we'll see in Anaheim this weekend, and WoW Insider will keep you posted with live reports.

Awesome! I'm glad to hear that this is actually going to happen. It has been talked about on and off for a while now, but I never thought they would get around to it.

Now I think the big question is how this will work exactly. Will there be a cooldown for it? Will you have to speak with a certain NPC? Will it cost 100,000,000 gold to even do?

hmmm...

I'm really curious about the way they're gonna work this out. We'll see at Blizzcon I suppose.

WOOHOO! Warriors finally getting a break. I wont have to spend 3,000g a week anymore. Either way I was thinking about this and well I only have one question for Blizz.

Are we going to have to go back to the trainer to learn the next level of that ability learned from the talent tree or will the game remember you already paid for it? I know no one knows yet but If you are going to BlizzCon I would love to know.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I remember Blizz talking about this that when you respec you won't have to pay to relearn talent upgrades. I believe this was even before the duo spec were even talked about. I might even go so far as to say that it might already currently be in the game.

it is currently in the game.

but the real question needs to be asked. will this duel spec include the inscription menu?
unless they are some how very very cheap (even still, id rather not have stacks of inscriptions in my bag for respecs, or hell, even pve to pvp type things) they are going to have to have this by launch, as the gold per respec is going to be even more so if you have to buy to replace inscriptions every time.

You might never know if Mental's being sarcastic or not, but yeah, it's already in-game. Learn a skill, buy the higher versions off it, and you'll have them as long as your talent spec includes the base skill.

Very sweet, looking forward to this information... I'll be keeping track of Alla's frontpage even more careful.

Sorry, I am still deployed so they might have done this since I have been gone sorry if it has. Almost home though I will be home before this month is over :) /cheer

I shall enjoy this.
My warrior will be able to easily switch between Fury and Prot.
My priest will be able to easily switch between Holy and Shadow.
My paladin will be able to easily switch between Prot and.....well I don't need another spec, Prot paly's are uber fun.

I have a holy pali and I keep him socked away until someone needs a healer because soloing with a holy paladin just stinks. I hope this happens I will have to get a new set of gear because I have been holy long enough I do not have any good Ret gear.

If it were me, I'd make it be done by an item that is either crafted or quested for. You click said item to use it, and it begins to cast something along the lines of "Skill Swap" that once completed switches your current talent build.

It would be on at least an hour recharge so that you can't be constantly changing your spec on a whim.

Hopefully, if they can do this, they can make some sort of appearance option to cure the wow clown syndrome.

Yeah, this went in during patch 2.4 or 2.4.2. Somewhere in there. Very nice. It's more a convenience thing than anything else. At most you'll save a couple gold retraining all those levels.

Ummm... 3000g per week? If you were spending anything over 150-200g per week on respecs, you weren't planning very well :)

If you have been healing level 70 regular instances and heroics, you can at least get a "starter" Ret set by buying the Rep Vendor items. Isn't a bad set for starters, and just save up some Ret-style rings/necklaces/trinkets that you are lucky enough to win in dungeons or get from quest rewards. I kept a few Ret rings from earlier quests that were decent blue rings. Figured I shouldn't sell them since I would probably want to spec Ret as an off-spec on occasion.

You change your talent build 60 times a week? Like.. eight times a day? Smiley: dubious

From the front page of MMO Champion, although no specific source indicated:

"The dual-spec system will be introduced in a content patch. The goal is to let you switch specs very easily in raid, even between fights ! However it won't be possible to switch specs in the middle of an arena match."

Too many tanks or healers for a boss? Just switch specs! I approve of this :)

Oh God Yes... Yes. Yes. Yes.

Please, Blizzard, tell us that this will be implemented in WotLK.

The need to Respec constantly is one of the major flaws in WoW as it stands today; many talent trees are not good at (insert activity here), and it was nothing more than an annoyance.

I like how each class is cleverly designed to specialize in 1 of 3 things with its talent trees, but I hate having to spend so much money to switch between them often.

Very nice announcement indeed. I don't care even if I have to return to a city to switch; just being able to switch without dumping loads of money and having to remember exactly which ones to click (and the possibility of a mis-click and/or FPS lag making you dump a point in the wrong spot), etc.

The way I see it this is a very great and welcome thing. I just cant wait for the people to be rolling on off-spec items because now every spec can be your "main spec" depending on the boss. Now there will be more competition for drops. Smiley: bah

Well, if you're not PuGing raids or anything, instance drops are usually just a matter-of-time, and there are usually alternatives that can be used instead.

In Raids, I assume guilds will develop set rules on what is considered "Main" "off-spec" and such when a raid item drops. Any guild worth its salt should have firm rules in place, to deal with this. I assume it would probably prioritize people who actually show up in that spec more often. For Tank Items, for someone to roll on Tank Items, they must actually tank more often than not, and THEN, if all the tanks already have that item or better, THEN others who CAN tank can roll on it.
