With the new Recruit-A-Friend program you can earn an exclusive Zhevra mount, receive a FREE month of game time, and gain access to other exciting in-game benefits. From the moment your friend creates a character and starts playing you’ll both earn triple the experience when grouped together and have the ability to summon one another from anywhere in the world. Also, for every two levels of experience your friend earns, they can grant one level of experience to any one of your characters.

To start recruiting your friends click here.

Zhevra is meh, but I don't like zebras anyway lol.

This is interesting though, makes me wish I had friends that were into playing MMORPGs rather than madden and the less than stellar shooters on the market right now.

Couldn't care less about the mount, but what's up with the free xp there?

Every other level the friend can grant the other guy a free level?

Yeah. So every 2 levels the friend gets, they can give the person who invited them a free level on any of their characters. I'm not sure if that applies only to that specific server or what, but I would assume it does. They also don't say how long this lasts... could you imagine if it were permanent, so long as you and your friend stay on WoW on the same server?

Getting ready for WotLK making the race to 70(then 80) much less of a hassle.

I'm beginning to think that the rediculous idea of once you have a toon leveled to 70, allowing players to start new classes at 55 alla death knight seems more close to a realistic idea for blizz to impliment.

I mean if you get a friend to join and they level a toon to 70 you can have a level 1 toon get up to level 35 without ever playing that toon...

Er.... wtf?

To me, it seems designed to draw in the neopets crowd, but perhaps I am being overly harsh. I mean, who doesn't want to extend special privileges to annoying spammers and their buddies, and encourage even more clueless newbies (and I mean this in the kindest possible way) to rush to the level cap without ever learning how to play their class?

Now something like a small extra experience bonus when grouped with mutual friends or something like that might be nice, but triple xp is a little over the top (I'm guessing that doesn't even take rested status into account), and the whole free level thing is just messed up.

Gah.

Oh, and the info isn't loading for me (and apparently caused Firefox to freeze up and crash, yay!), but it looks like only 5 referrals per account. Which is...better than unlimited, but still does not make me happy.

This is what is going to make me dual box. Not only am I going to level 2 characters at once now, I will sort of level a third because of the gain two levels and grant a level thing.

Also I will be doing ALOT of starting area grinding to get easy levels to level my warrior to 70 without playing him...

Doubt that they would allow me to do that but I'm going to try.

Okay, C&P from the FAQ page which finally loaded for me, in case others still can't get to it. Bolded the stuff that seems especially interesting...

Quote:
What is "Recruit-A-Friend"?

Our new friend referral system allows you to recruit some of your friends to join you in World of Warcraft by sending them an invitation email containing a trial activation key. With this key, your friends will be able to set up their own trial accounts.

To start this process log on to the Account Management section and click the Recruit-A-Friend button. This will take you to the actual friend referral page, where you can enter a friend's email address and name one at a time. If you want, you can also enter a message that will be included in the invitation email.

How can I earn the exclusive in-game mount?

For each person you refer who upgrades to a retail version of World of Warcraft and purchases two months of game time, you will be able to give a character on the account you sent the invitation from an exclusive in-game zhevra mount. This unique mount can be claimed through the website, is only available to Recruit-A-Friend participants, and can only be applied to a single character.

What in-game benefits do we get while the accounts we play are linked?

1. Characters on both accounts can summon each other once per hour.
2. While adventuring with your linked friend/family member, you will each gain triple experience and honor.
3. For every two levels the new player earns, the new player can grant one free level-up to a lower-level character played by the veteran player.

How long will I be linked to my recruit?

The link between the accounts will last for 90 days from the date that your recruit creates an account. Remember that for the link to work properly, your recruit must create a new World of Warcraft account using the 10-day trial key in your invitation email.

When my friend/family member upgrades from a trial account to a full version of the game, will that break the link between the accounts?

Nope! Your friend/family member will have to upgrade to continue playing past the 10-day trial, and the accounts you play will stay linked until the full 90 days have passed.

If my friend/family member recruits another friend/family member, am I linked to that person too?

No, these benefits only apply to the person that you referred directly.

Are there any limits on when and where I can summon my friend?

You and your recruit may only summon new characters of equal or lower level to the character you are playing. There is a one-hour cooldown on this summoning ability. Also, once one of the characters reaches level 60, the summon will no longer function.

Do I always gain triple experience while I am linked to my recruit?

No, only when you are partied with a character on the linked account and both players are present when slaying the monster or completing the quest. Also, if the two characters are not the same level, only the lower-level character is given the experience boost.

Is quest experience tripled too?

Yes, but only if the quest was not trivial (gray difficulty) for either character.

Do normal experience rules apply?

Yes, if a monster is trivial to either player, no experience boost is given.

How does this affect / stack with Rest State experience?

While you are partied with a linked recruit, any Rest State you have accumulated is not consumed. Only the tripled experience from the Recruit-A-Friend program is applied.

What if I'm partied with multiple recruits who I'm "linked" to? Do I get quadruple, sextuple experience?

No, you can only ever gain a maximum of triple experience regardless of how many linked recruits you are partied with.

Are there any limitations to granting levels to characters played by the veteran player?

Yes. The recruit may not grant a level to a character that is equal to or higher than the current level of the character he or she is playing.
Additionally, the recruit may not grant a level to a character that is level 60 or higher.

How can I earn the free 30-day credit?

For each person you refer who upgrades to a retail version of World of Warcraft and purchases his or her first month of game time, the account you sent the invitation from will receive a free credit of 30 days of play time.

Can I use the free 30-day credit on a different account or at a different time?

No, the 30 days of play time are immediately applied to the account you sent the invitation from once your recruit pays for his or her first month.

Can I earn multiple 30-day credits and mounts with Recruit-A-Friend?

Yes! These rewards will be given to you for each account you refer that meets the criteria listed above.

If my recruit cancels the account before purchasing subscription time, can I still earn the 30-day credit or the in-game mount?

If the recruit later comes back, reactivates the account, and purchases subscription time, you will still be eligible for the rewards. Additionally, you can always invite more friends/family members to try World of Warcraft through the Recruit-A-Friend system.

So, okay, not as broken as I was afraid of, but still quite useful. Interesting that it has to be the new recruit granting the levels, and not the other way around, I kind of missed that before. The big idea with this seems to be allowing a couple of friends to stay at relatively the same level, instead of one getting ahead of the other (though the assumption seems to be that the "veteran" player is much more likely to fall behind, and I'm not so sure that's accurate.)

I think the reason they believe the veteran player will be the one falling behind is that the veteran player will spend less time leveling most likely since they might have a raid schedule/other alts to attend to whereas the new player does not.

Yes, I can understand that... on the other hand, though, a new player is going to be much less competent at the game, and have a bit more trouble with even the first few levels from not knowing the quests, zones, etc.

If one assumes that the experienced player is going to be teaching the newbling all this, I suppose it works. I just remember how it took me two weeks to get to level twenty the first time, and I couldn't even imagine ever getting my mount. But if the friend is providing a decent amount of help (not just "Look in the quest log, I'm raiding right now") then I suppose the newer player would be able to level at a normal pace. I guess I just relate my own situation to it a bit too much, where Jon got me hooked on the game, had very little time to play with me because of raiding, and still managed to level way faster than I did because I had no idea what I was doing.

It's a shame that I've got all my RL friends who are into gaming to play WoW - If this offer was on last year I'd have the mount already *sob*

I can see an achievement in WotLK based on you having the Zhevra...

I'm not sure if I'm understanding this, only the recruited friend can get the mount? Or the player who recruited the friend?

Why am I so retarded :(

As I read it - the person that recruited the friend gets a mount. If the lvl1 player got a shiny new mount It'd be a bit odd.

Time to finally set up my second account - I get a ridiculous sum of money from the government for staying on at school, more than enough for 2 WoW accounts and my already lavish life style (At most, £3/week on sweets Smiley: rolleyes)

Always wanted a Shaman and Warrior, and if I can level them both at once, at three times the speed? **** yah!

Only problem is this makes PL companies a lot more cost efficient, esp if they add 4 'buddies' from one account.

No srsly, the Zhevra mount? I don't want a Zhevra mount :( I want a Giraffe!
All the xp/honor benefits seem a bit over the top to me though, almost sounds like they're desperate for new members.

The xpack is coming out soon and the level cap will then be 80. They are simply trying to make it easier for new players to be able to make that cap.

*edit* Thanks for the rate downs

It's amusing that Blizzard give a reward that allows people to play their game less. It's even more amusing that I and others are entticed by it - leveling past the second character and getting honour is a joylesss grind for the majority, as Blizz seems to admit with this.

No, that doesn't make sense. If that was the case they would do it for all new players. This is a bonus specifically for new ppl recruited by members, which is probably only a small percentage of the total number of new players. Plus it's already a breeze to level to 60 compared to the old days, and nobody was complaining about it back then. And keep in mind that ppl new to the game might not want to race through their levels like we do on our gazillionth alt. It just looks like they are prepared to go a loooong way to get those few extra accounts.

Just yesterday, i was talking to one of my friends about joining wow. He was interested but put off by the 70 levels.

i had explained to him that it was pretty easy to level to 60 with blizzards improvments, he was still sceptical, and then

i ran across the new recruit a friend, leveling is crazy fast like almost stupid fast imo. 300% extra xp from quests?!

just my 2 cents.

WHY!? Why would one be put off by 70 levels? There is life from 1 to 69, much to be seen and much to be enjoyed! What's so bad about good content pre-70?

So, just to be sure I'm understanding this: when the new player (ie: "Recruit") gains 2 levels he can grant a "free" level to one of the old player's (ie: "veteran") toons... HOWEVER, that toon has to be of equal or lower level to the "Recruit"?

So forget about "levelling to 70" using the "free levels" part of this deal.

If I got this right:

I recruit my friend.

My lowest level toon is 25.

The free level thingy doesn't apply until my friend hits 25 as well.

ok... well... FREE ZHEVRA! WOOHOO!

erm.. I wonder, can you send yourself an invitation? as in, could I start a second WoW account this way?
