In my first character's preteens, I found out that standing in a bonfire while reading the quest description (back in ye olde times, before the instant quest text option) wasn't healthy.

The pile of corpses in said bonfire probably should've alarmed me.

That I keep forgetting they lowered the Mount Level to 30.

When I forget, I end up running half the zone before I see a 30 trot past mounted.....Doh!

You can hearth while sitting or laying down. I found that out a bit ago, its pretty cool.

On a similar note, last week I found you could fish while sitting down too :P

You can also lay down while you fish. My Tauren looks really relaxed when he does this!

Ah, first toon reminiscing...

My 10ish mage was convinced that Duskwood was probably the toughest place in the game when I first crossed that river on a random exploration. zomg what's a skull-level wolf??! Back to the river boys!

edit: hmm you know, my post isn't really in keeping with the theme of this thread.

So let's try this: It took me many many levels to figure out that I could enable more hotbars. I was clicking through the scrollable default hotbar at the bottom for many a fight.

It took me weeks to find out about NUM LOCK. I kept wondering how my friend was chatting with me while she was running when I was following her. I also wondered why everyone who played wow didn't have carpal tunnel. Doh! :)

Mine was today. About a minute ago.

That you could show friendly player name plates and health bars as well as enemies.

Mine was just a few weeks ago - I didn't know you could swap entire bags, with their contents, in and out of the bank without emptying the bag first.

Another funny thing, wasn't me though: Noob Paladin I grouped with once never had Devotion Aura on. I was a warrior, level 18, he was level 16-17 or so. I said "Hey, since I'm tanking for you, could you please turn on Devo Aura?" He was all "I don't have it, it's a group ability, I don't need it." o.O

Mine was a couple weeks ago, in relation to JC. I didn't know you could put any color gem into any socket! You just have to match the colors if you want the "slot bonus". Here I was thinking that I couldn't put a Hit Rating gem into a blue socket.

Way back when the game was new, my Shammy was level 22 before I realized I could drop more than one totem at a time.

I did something similar - I rolled a Draenei Shaman (alliance) when BC came out, leveled him to around 18, then went back to focusing on my main. I just picked him back up again a couple months ago, and couldn't figure out why I was having such a hard time with him... constantly going through nearly all my mana and health every single fight and just barely pulling it off... until I remembered I could drop more than one totem. Ahhhh.... much better.

The biggest gaffe for me, however, was on my main - a BM hunter. After turning 70, I spent a lot of time in battlegrounds earning marks and honor for the "welfare" epics. Eventually I joined a 2v2 team with some guildmates, and after our first couple fights one of the guys asked if I was BM, and I said yes. "Why did you get feared then?" he asked. Until that very moment (and the ensuing discussion), I didn't realize that Beastial Wrath and The Beast Within made me (and my pet) immune to fear, stun, etc. The description says, "While enraged, you do not feel pity or remorse or fear, and you cannot be stopped unless killed." I always thought it was a strange description and thought they put all that in there for lore or "flavor" and it never occurred to me to read it in terms of gameplay.

I have never felt more like a huntard than that particular moment.

When I found out that I can flip the camera view with a keystroke. Being a warrior it is really helpful to be able to look 180* behind me with a single key-press, see that hte trap is re-trapped, and flip back to my front view instantly.

I'd only been raid tanking through t5 before my class leader asked why I wasn't reacting to trap breaks better . ..

...oh look, I learned something! I guess that's mine now as well.

I was going to say, it took me until my nelf hunter was about level 28 or so before I realized that I could sit down to drink and send my pet out to attack something while I got my mana back up. Since then, groups have had much fewer complaints about me...

1st toon always rocks ...

My Nelf Huntard did all the following :

Run around without a pet til lvl 18. It's dead!!! I can't train another one.
Run around with pet, without growl, til lvl 40 or so. Teach pet? I'm MM not BM!!!
Wear no mail til lvl 45 or so.
Get my mount at lvl 48.
.
.
.

Embarassing. BUT a real man never reads instruction manuals! Never!!!!

Incidentally and very OFF TOPIC. I keep wondering what blunders I'll make whenever WoW2 comes out. Whenever that is...

I didn't realize I could Sheep mobs that were already Sheeped to restart the timer. I had always waited until it broke before I Sheeped them. Some kindly fellow explained it to me. Probably happened in the mid to late 30's.

Then i regretted when i tryed to take down a lvl 6 lol.

(This was before i had even started playing, when my friend let me make a character on his account)

I didnt know that you could get aquatic form until about level 40, so much slow swimming.

It took me up until around 30 to figure out there was more than 1 bar to put my skills/spells onto.

Just yesterday I found out that you can highlight a completed quest in your log and get a nice shiny gold arrow on your map pointing you to where to turn it in! :O

I'm not sure if its a built in feature or part of cartographer, but that sure saves a lot of alt+tabbing!
