"Mom, when's dinner ?"
"In 10 to 15 mins"
"Great, thats just enough time for me to join a group for an instance and leave them dry after a couple of pulls"

Oh c'mon, think before you join.

As for some more unpredictable RL stuff, sure any1 can understand.

A call of duty in RL (dinner, wife, kids, incoming friends etc.)always outweigh a computer game.

In theory yes, but does it outweigh commitments you've made to four real people?

Extreme example:

You offer to help a new neighbour move his sofa, you get it off the truck and halfway across the road then drop it and walk off to eat.

I love it when people do this, it always makes me smile.

Just the other day we walk into heroic mech, and our tank says - Gotta go, wife just finished dinner, we didnt even pull the first mob.

So... He couldnt have been mad about a poor group yet, not even one mob touched.

We ended up running the instance after he got back from dinner, 30 mins of twiddling our thumbs waiting for him in the instance. The run only took about 45 mins-1 hour in total, flawless run.

I never understand the concept of why people do this, he could have said, It will take me 30 mins to eat dinner, you can find another tank or wait around in shattrath for me to get back. At least we could have checked the AH, re-do our banks, sell enchants, something!

Needless to say, usually If I dont know the other people, I ask - does eveyone have time to complete this thing? If not please leave now.

Im starting to get a pretty good rotation when I start a group -
1) Does everyone have time to complete this.
2) Loot Rules
3) Vent info if needed

I like it when you get invited to a group to go run something, and the group just chills with 4/5 members while the two of them that put it together go quest for a while. About an hour later, you forget you are even in a group, and then BAM! 5th member joins "Ok let's go, who can summon?"

UGH

I was doing IoQD quests on my mage Saturday. At the start I decided it would be fun to do a MgT run so I joined the LFG queue. After about a half hour someone messaged me for a group and sent me an invite.

I declined because I only had an hour before a guild ZA run and I KNEW that wouldn't be enough time.

Turned off my lfg and went about my business and that group found someone better suited.

I ditched a group last night before the summons even went out because I got a phone call and I knew I'd be on it for at least an hour.

I hope they found a new tank. Life sucks sometimes. :/

Usually I'm not one for the angsty complaints, but nothing irritates me worse in the game than people who take a spot in a group and then have to leave in the middle of it because of something they knew WELL IN ADVANCE. At least ninja looters know they're ******** you over.

Because God hates me, I usually get random invites ~1 hour before dinner's ready. I refuse. Sometimes even two hours before dinner, because with summoning, preparation and the odd wipe, I might have to bail near the end, which would suck. For all of us.

I'd rather not do the damn thing than only do half of it. I'm crazy like that.

You're comparing two different types of "friends". If you help anyone move furniture, I'm assuming you're pretty decent friends. Four random people in a PUG that I will never see again, and considering I'm not causing THAT bad of an inconvenience, doesn't really affect me. However, this is due to the fact that when I leave a group, it is because I legitimately have to go. There have been times when I thought I had the rest of the night to play, but get parent aggro for whatever reason. And honestly, I'm not getting in trouble in real life for the sake of some epic lewt.

So, suck it up and realize it's the risk you take with grouping in WoW... in any game. Things come up that you can't control. Just roll with it and move on.

Maybe it's because I'm the type that doesn't get angry at things that are out of my control.

I run into this pretty often, because I mostly do stuff with PUGs (though that seems to be changing to more static groups/guildies lately).

Here, it's just me and my fiance`, so I just say, "I'm about to play." and he goes and watches TV or whatever he's gonna do for the nite. I guess I'm lucky.

But I'm with most of you guys: try to plan your game play. If you're going to commit to doing something with people, yeah, it's just a game, but those people are real people just like you are. That whole golden rule thing comes to mind.

But I also absolutely hate when someone comes into a group going "I've got an hour, let's hurry!" and tries to rush the group through it. Sure, I'll follow you around and pew pew w/ very low DPS, if you think that's going to be faster than letting me sit down and drink for a few seconds. Or, I might not. I might just say I don't have time for that crap, and bail. I usually try to stick it out, and, now that I think about it, I haven't ever bailed on a group, but I'm very close to being able to do just that if I end up with one of those rushers when I've not had the best of days. It puts me in the most rottenfoul mood!

But there's the rub. That requires a priest to be on when you need him which is like Thrall taking up cross stitching. It simply does not happen.

I'll post some comments on topic here, but no ones reading them with all the boobs floating around.

Here we go.

Yes, stay in an instance.

If you have all your **** in order and make absolutely sure that you have the night free and clear it with your parents stating that "I will be making a commitment to 4 real life people and I want to make sure that I have done everything I can around here that you can possibly think of so that I do not fail in said commitment to be able to play for the next 2ish hours. Is there anything else I can do to ensure that as best as possible I can safely make said commitment? Here is a list of all the chores I have completed tonight. Anything I'm forgetting? I have also completed my homework and we have eaten dinner so that shouldn't be an issue." Then you do whatever they suggest without complaint before you sit down and LFG, I can almost guarantee that your parents will see the maturity and foresight of your actions and allow you to play uninterrupted.

Unless your parents just like to **** with you, of course.

However, based on the other stuff you've written, it seems you are only concerned with personal consequences as opposed to making sure that you are doing right by everyone, so whatevah.

Anyway, the real reason I'm posting is to say that in all fairness, some people don't know that they're going to have to leave. Some people live with others (usually parents) that make dinner at potentially random times. We usually eat pretty darn early in my house, but some people eat very late, or at a very variable time, depending on their household. While it's likely that person was a douchebag, there is the slight possibility they were not...at least based on what you've told us so far.

If it's just dinner, come on, you mean to tell me that they don't know that their mommy is going to call them down for dinner at some point? Why be trying to start something if you KNOW your mommy calls you down to dinner EVERY DAY. It's not like it's a new thing, it's not like it all the sudden happened today for the first time. Dinner is an everyday activity, and if you gonna run an instance, why not just wait until AFTER, or at the very least, use your brain and go ask your mommy when dinner is gonna be and see if you have enough time BEFORE joining a group.

That's just dinner, some other excuses I can't tolerate either, but I think that has to be the one that gets on my nerves the most. Most of the time I understand though, and usually just let it slide, even if it is the old dinner excuse.

Because some people, like me, have sporadic dinner times.

Then only group after you've had dinner.

Or at least when you join just say to the group 'If my mum calls me for dinner I'll have to go, no idea when' so they can kick you and find a better member.

You see, scientists now believe that at least two out of three DK players(on average) are not people, but in fact a form of protozoa capable of manipulating computer input devices.
