Do you gank?Follow

#27 Jun 10 2008 at 9:46 AM Rating: Good
I play on a PvE server, so generally I don't have the chance. If I see some hordie running around with pvp on though, and he's not totally under my level, he's asking for it. I'll probably attack and win or lose, leave them alone. My thought is he's probably looking to have some fun so why not; if he wasn't, he'd turn pvp off. If a hordie has pvp off, I don't go harass them and may even thunk the mob they're trying to kill.

Playing on a PvE server, ganking mostly doesn't apply, however. But what ticks me off is folks who gank bosses, nodes and chests.

For example, the other day I was solo hunting the orc boss in Wetlands. Well I'd died several times trying to take out his circle of buddies without drawing adds. Why don't clerics get AoE? My gear was broken/yellow, I was down to about zero water and I knew this was my last chance to kill the boss before I'd have to go back to Menethil to repair. I now have the boss and one buddy to take down before I can complete. Then some creep - alliance, nonetheless (I play ally) comes in and grabs the boss while I'm drinking my last water.

Totally rude in my book. If I see someone else putting in the effort to clear the area, I'll either offer to group or stand back and wait for my turn when the boss and crew respawns.

The other day I was in STV getting some quests done on my 40 warrior when a guy I ran an instance with starts asking me for help against a 39 Priest and a 41 warrior trying to gank him. I roll over to the area and we do battle with the allies for a good 20 minutes, us pushing them back and them pushing us back. W get a few reinforcements and so do they. All of a sudden the warrior disappears and a 70 mage rolls up and smokes us all, ending the fun. But that was the most fun I had in world PVP ever because it was a fair fight, fairly even numbers and we had a blast doing it.

I have played both sides of the fence; both Horde and Alliance, and been the victim of anything from severe to moderate gankage.

It is a fact of life on PvP servers that it will( ohh, and it will) happen. Sometimes very often, sometimes not.

As for my own personal preference; if I see the opposing faction ( on my PvP server characters ) and they see me, then it will most likely end for one of us.

Of course, there are exceptions. If I am busy with dailies, questing, or just wandering aimlessly, I will often bypass the opportunity.

Then again...

This is a game, it's meant to be fun. Being ganked/corpse camped isn't fun, and I don't see how it's fun for the ganker as for me, challenges make games fun and there isn't any challenging aspect of ganking.

Just my 2 cents.

It's fun to some people. I usually get a laugh when I see flagged lowbies who avoid me like the black death til they are unflagged, then they act like their balls weigh 10lbs each.

Ever heard of Angwe?

It's funny to see some of the SS he took of people pleading and begging, flat out offering to pay him, if he let them live and ride the boat from Theramore to Menithil.

Really though, people should expect to get ganked constantly on a pvp server. Be it that the ganker has underlying issues with childhood experiences, maybe he's having a bad day amd wants to see newbs run for their life hundreds of times or it could be payback for the times Angwe raped them while they were trying to get to ZF for the Carrot on a Stick quest.

Occasionally, depends what you mean. Only 70s, I don't waste time going into noobie zones. I'm generally in (1) arena, (2) a raid, (3) dueling outside org or (4) doing dailies somewhere.

Sometimes I do dailies in peace with other Alliance around. Other times I just see a perfect shatter oppurtunity and try and 2 shot the person. Sometimes random PVP keeps me from getting ridiculously bored.

I like to kill people who will at least fight back, so that means people who visibly have lots of PVP gear. But I don't limit my kills to those people of course, sometimes I just want to see big crits and the 0 resilience players are most fun for that ;)

To be fair I do dailies on my PVE gear. Higher crits, higher damage, but higher chance for you to kill me. Heck I don't even quest with a PVP trinket on anymore. If you wanna fight back you probably have a good shot, I just like random PVP.

Maybe once every few months I'll take a run through newb territory for lols and just kill people. Usually I'm there for an alternate reason (helping a friend) and I just kill reds along the way.

Once in a while though, I take my rogue to Org or SW and gank in the city. In fact maybe I'll go do that now, I'm pretty bored and it's been a while. I like the lol's generated by the other faction, everyone loves finding an enemy deep in the heart of their main city.

Hell yeah I gank. I always got ganked, especially by night elves. I have vivid memories of being 1-shotted in Booty Bay in my 30's, being chased down in Ferales, and hunted in Thousand needles. Oddly, while leveling Drainies seldom ganked, and often showed respect, while night elves never failed to go out of their way to kill somebody 40 levels lower.

So now I gank. Not all the time, and I don't go out with the purpose of ganking, but red=dead 90% of the time. Especially if your in my farming zone. I generally wear at least a few pieces of pvp gear while I'm out and about doing dailies or grinding or whatever. And if your in the Haala area, I may even camp you, for no other reason than to try and get 10 kills for that daily quest :P.

On pvp servers we aren't automatically flagged for pvp just so I can /wave at somebody passing by. I also think of it as farming, so to speak. I'm not gonna pass up a mining node or and herb opportunity, why should I pass up an opportunity to get a little bit of honor for killing somebody. Honor= currency, so killing you is making me a little bit richer. Think of it that way.

I do occasionally. I don't always go out of my way, usually just rooting/insect swarm/moonfiring enough that if they want to survive, they sit and eat right nownownow. If they do that, I give em a /bow and move on. If they fail to think and run (and die) then I'll take a look around, see if they were with anyone, stealth, let them come back, and then do it again. After the third, I do /sigh and move on.

I went to goldshire the other day as Kara finished and had to hand in the revered 'quest.' My hearth was down, mage was gone so I stopped at goldshire on the way back. Walked in killing the NPC's and this human runs up to me. I give him a wave and continue to walk into town toasting guards. Then he starts following me, doing /chicken, generally being a pain. then another lowbie came up and I waved at him, he backed away and watched. then a pair of 70's came up and started, and so did mr chicken, attacking from behind. I turned, did /cackle and roasted him before being killed. After waiting for the 70's to move a bit, I came back and fried mr chicken again who was hanging around. I waved at the second lowbie and set down my Picnic basket from the valentines day stuff, but he ran off, sadly.

Im on a PvP server and usually dont bother ganking people lower lvl since its really a waste of my time, I did once though actually feel sorry for a 58 human mage i ganked, I had just made my goblin rocket launcher and was in need of a test subject with the range of the launcher he never saw me and it critted him for 3k+ and he just fell to the ground completely oblivious to what had just happend.

I bet once a week while I am leveling an alt, I will get ganked in stv or ohb or one of those spots. I will proceed to hop on my druid and go through ss and clean the place out. I used to get frustrated and just deal with it, but it is rewarding being the ganker and not the gankee.

I used to be a ganker in the 40-60 range. Mostly to pay back all the hordes that had ganked me in the passed and because I pretty much suck at PvP against same-level players. Being a holy priest means you can last long, but won't dish out enough to outlast your opponent.

Anyway, now that I've hit Outland and I run into (+/- samelevel) Horde in HFP or ZM, I leave them alone, and they leave me alone. Perhaps they know that I can fear them into one or two mobs, I dunno.
I don't feel like ganking anymore. Instead I tend to help them. A druid was fighting 3 mobs at once and was his health was dropping really fast, so I pulled one away and finished it for him. Meanwhile he downed the second and we both finished the third. A bow or /ty I recieve from a horde really makes my day. I don't see them really as my enemy, but as an other player trying to make his way in wow.
More recently, I started to MC and buff them with fortitude (if they turn out to be friendly). It beats ganking in any way.

Same level or 1 level difference, 1 on 1~ that's a fair fight. But don't get mad when you get pwned and recruit 2 of your buddies to gang up on 1 little blood elf....

I have never gone out of my way to gank, or rode around with the sole purpose of ganking. But I have found myself compelled to give a member of the opposite faction a "stern talking-to" in the form of divine favor + holy shock.

Yes I do. I´m only level 30. I´m endlessly ganked when questing in contested territory. Doesn´t matter what contested territory, I´m ganked. So yes, when the opportunity arises, I gank. But I only gank when it´s fair game. (Around my level, give or take 3 levels). Vicious cycle it is.

IMHO, the only good fight is a fair fight. On PvP servers, I won't gank. No reason to. Now, if a lowbie were to approach me and attack me, it's a different story. If they want to pick a fight, then it's on. Otherwise, the only enemies I'll attack are those near my level.

I would have to assume from reading all the posts here that the ppl who are doing all the ganking are not posting here. All of you seem to say you do not gank. Yet....I get ganked all the time, especially at summoning stones.

And what is up with Kara? I personally hate it when you are the first of your party to arrive and two parties of enemy, Horde or Alliance doesn't matter, are waiting to go in and they "protect" the area. Sometimes that place is so hard to enter. But then again, if my party is hitting an enemy, I do join in. I'm a ******* sometimes.

Indeed.

If you stick around I think you'll find that we have little tolerance for juvenile, e-peen inflating antics (Except Bodhi, but that's carebear crap). That's not to say that our PvPers can't be utterly ruthless pricks. It's just to say that they're not generally pricks about being pricks.

Generally.

Unless it's warranted,

Then god help you.

Really.

*adjusts monicle* Yes, rather. I would think that if you were wanting to speak to those who do nothing but gank, then the O-boards is where they will be found old chap.

Now who'd like a spot of tea, wot?
