The etiquette of vanish...Follow

I'm totally cool with Feign Death. I have been in raids where when everyone is using a repair bot, I'm just spending about 4g to repair my bow.

I'm not cool with Vanish. Rogues don't have to spend 40g filling a quiver with Timeless Arrows!

Are we tallying? Can I tally my tanking repair bill, reagents for buffs and just ramdomly DI the rogue or hunter when I don't feel like reconstructing my plate? Smiley: grin

On a sidenote - if they're timeless, shouldn't you be able to re-harvest them? Lazy hunter.

(Is invisibility considered an aggro reducing ability? It bugs every time.)

It reduces threat on tick and wipes aggro on completion. Some mobs have aggro pulses that will put you back into combat - it's not always 100% clear how the mechanic works, but generally if you keep really far away from mobs you'll stay safe. This especially includes mobs chasing your teammates if they're headed in the same direction, as that's when an aggro pulse is most likely to put you back in combat.

well... 50% of the time that works anyway.
in my experience it's more like 5% Smiley: madSmiley: mad

I used to run with a guy who would get pissed if a hunter feigned and then tried to use his jumper cables on a paladin. The reason?

"He's wearing metal armor which will ground him and make the jumper cables fail. Use them on a priest instead."

For fun, some other random beliefs of his:

"Let me go first. I'm wearing plate armor so I have a smaller aggro radius."

"We need more rogues for steady DPS. We have too many high-crit aggro stealing classes like mages and shadow priests."

This was the guy who used to get PISSED at me for "stealing aggro" on the 2nd boss in Shattered Halls. Smiley: laugh

The only rogue that I've seen actually use Vanish is my fiance, other then him, all others die in the wipe. I actually don't care that he does Vanish, he's engineer so he'll use hus Jumper Cables to rez me and I'll rez either an other healing class if there is one (I'm druid) or who ever hasn't gotten to the instance yet. I normally find it funny when the rest of us are like "Ugh, I'm yellow/red, gotta repair" and he tells us "Really? I'm at 98%." I'm sure it annoys the others but eh, he helps me with dalies and gives me money for repairs anyways.

As a hunter, the following scenario is when I would use FD to save my sorry *****

The entire group is dead (including my pet), and my death (not the death of whatever I am fighting) is imminent. Either that, or I'm taking aggro off of me, but I will jump back into the fight as soon as I'm no longer getting beat on.

Most of the time, I will go down fighting. There have been a couple of boss fights where the group has wiped (except for me and my pet), the boss was down to under a quarter life, and I've managed to finish them off (and yes, I wait for my group to come back before looting :P). I'd rather try to finish the fight then to start it all over again, if possible. And as far as the repair bills go, I don't worry TOO much about them. If my armor is going red, then we've wiped too many times for me to want to stay with that group.

I thought that if you released you can't get loot. Is that only if you release before he is killed?

I think it’s all about being low maintenance.

To your tank – don’t pull agro, kill quickly.

To your healer – don’t pull agro so you don’t need heals, bring bandages/pots.

To your pocketbook – even though gold flows like wine out there, I still hate to waste it on unnecessary repairs.

Yes, if my tank, healer and one other dps is gone, damn right I will vanish.

I'm a hunter and the only times I use FD in a group are when I'm pulling aggro from the tank or if everyone else has wiped and I have no hope of killing the mob before it kills me. Otherwise, I take my beatings with the rest of the group.

To the OP, I think your etiquette is just fine - it's commendable that you put group morale ahead of your own repair bill.

From what I've experienced, if you release your spirit, and I loot while you are running back to your body, then you will be too far away to roll for anything that drops. As long as I wait for everyone to get back before I loot, then they all can roll. Usually what I get from everybody when I tell them that the boss is dead is "DON'T LOOT YET."

Exactly, you have to be present in the instance when the mob is looted to get credit. And if it's a "kill this mob" quest, you have to be present in the instance when it dies to get credit. Even if you're dead. Rather, ESPECIALLY if you're dead. If you have to pick up an item (like a Badge of Justice), if you're not present when it's looted, you can't pick it up. Really sucks sometimes.
