I Died in The Auction HouseFollow

So yesterday I was in the AH in Orgrimmar, logged in as my level 1 banker character, and I died twice. I wasn't flagged, I wasn't fighting, I was just loading stuff on the AH and searching for potions, browsing, la la la, and I died, came back and died again about 5 mins later.

What's going on?

There were no defence messages appearing, no warnings, zip diddly squat. I just appeared to die suddenly without warning and for no reason. Me and a couple of other guys as it happens.

Is this some new alliance trick? Was it a bug? Do I need to work a character up to a higher level to stop it happening again?

Any knowledge anyone?

Many Thanks....

May have been a horde warlock that summoned an Infernal and unleashed it in the AH. It could also have been an alliance rogue that managed to sneak into the AH.

Thunder bluff was the target for an ally rogue yestarday on my server. He was ganking the Auctioneers so I gave up trying to bank. Thought it was sad that the 5-10 level 70's couldnt stop this rogue from repeatedly killing them...maybe it a game wide fad for allys to do this.

Since he wasn't flagged, it couldn't have been a Rogue. Snake trap, maybe.

My snaketrap won't kill lowby Hordies anymore, so I don't think it'd work for some shadowmelded nelf.

I don't know what it could be, maybe if it keeps up contact a gm and find out what the problem is.

Thank you everyone for your observations I think it was the shammy with his totem, next time I will remember to look at the combat log! Never think to do that with my level 1 banker though... for obvious reasons! You live and learn.

Just happened again 3 times in a row, it's a group of Horde members would you believe, who apparently think its funny to set off totems and kill low levels in the AH and by the mail box. I know because I asked them an dthey all just laughed at me and killed me again. Nice. Must be kids or come to think of it I know kids better behaved and more sensible than that.

SO NOT IMPRESSED

Am trying to get to my epic mount 5k growllllllllllll

Wait, so our totems can kill other Horde? They're not supposed to be able to attack friendly players.... <.<

Which totem is it? And can we get some screenshots of the combat log please? I'd like to see this for myself.

Will screen shot if it happens again. It was a lvl 5 Fire Nova totem I think, hit me for 412 damage from memory and that was enough to kill me. Haha! I have no armour etc, just a level 1 banker, so to speak...

I suppose it is funny in one way, but not funny when you just want to play the game and do your buying and selling as fast as possible. Went back as my lvl 67 hunter to get on with what I wanted to do and some of the guys that were doing it are all currently lying dead, scattered about outside the bank and AH. All seems very strange. They were definitely horde though because I was whispering them, asking them why they were doing it. You are right though surely friendly players should suffer no damage.... most strange...

I was reading on the O-boards about this and apparently it is the Shaman's totem. If they set the totem and log out in time, the totem will change from "friendly" to "neutral" and explode or something.

It's amazing the lengths some people will go to just to be annoying, but...there are a lot of jerks out there. Supposedly some were justifying their actions by claiming they were only after the goldspammers, but clearly this is affecting far more legitimate players than the spammers so hopefully it will be dealt with soon.

If it continues to happen, I would suggest that you take a screenshot of your combat log, make a note of the player's name and file a ticket with a GM.

In order to get killed by an opposite faction member you have to be flagged. I wonder how did this happen on some lvl 1 AH toons? These toons were at "their" home; even on a PVP server I guess you have to be flagged for this to happen.

And as a response to fuzzzywuzy supposition about a NE shadowmelding ... Shadowmeld works only when you're standing still, it will break anytime you move. So it won't be possible for NE to sneak in Horde city by shadowmelding.

About shammy totems - it certainly look like a bug. I'm expecting to see this in Aliance cities pretty soon.

It is the fire totems; a friend of mine saw it in action in TB ah last night. I hadnt thought about using it on gold spammers -- I'll have to park my shammy in Ogr and wait for the next solicitation.....

I can tell you it happened in the SW AH last evening - some shammy around lvl 35 started doing this. I have never wished so fervently for the ability to gank your own faction as I did last night as all these poor lowbies around me were dropping like flies.

I hope Blizz fixes this soon. Of course, the jerks doing this will just find something else equally as annoying to do...

-Just a video of it on youtube.

There used to be a way for warlocks do to this as well. They had to go into some dungeon, call upon some pet and run out. When they call the pet again, it would damage anyone in the surrounding area.

I read the thread on WOW and from that and the replies here and it seems it was initailly aimed at the goldspammers, fun and fine to some degree.... but as a consequence it is killing any low level Horde (and I guess Alliance in their cities) too. Some people seem to simply be enjoying the fact they can kill low levels in their own factions. Nice. It is also not actually stopping the goldspamming. Seems some folk are gleeful about killing low level banker characters as well, they obviously don't understand about Outlands.

Hopefully they will grow bored of their idiocy soon enough and go back to playing WOW for the real fun, gameplay and challenge it offers.

Thank you everyone for your information and views, at least I know what is going on now even if there is nothing I can do to avoid the effects.

As someone said above, I never expected to want to be able to kill my own faction...

There is a way to stop getting bank alts killed , i would never use a level 1 character anyway.

Do not tell me it takes to long ,, i can get to level 6 in about 30 minutes on any character . and all you need is a little health and problem solved..

If that's what they're doing, then fine.

Questions is whether or not there was a gold spammer about - on my server they do hang around the Org bank, but its inevitably in front of it and not near the mailbox so the odds of a bank alt getting fried are pretty low.

There is an easy way to have the totems not hit you. Last night, I was playing with someone on my realm and he tried to blow me up with his fire nova totem. It hit almost everyone else in the auction house except for me and a flagged hunter. Since I am always flagged, I thought that maybe being flagged causes the totem to not hit you. I unflagged, and when he set the totem off, I died. I may be wrong, but try flagging your bank toons. If this works, please don't tell too many people, okies? =D I like watching people explode.

If you dont want too many people to know it might just not be a very good idea to post it on a forum -.-

I didn't say that he killed me, just the auctioneers. Some people who fly from a pvp zone into thunderbluff or any other city will still be flagged until it wears off. On an alt I made the mistake of hearthing to crossroads from ashenvale just to be smacked around by some allies attacking the town.
