In our continued efforts to support fair gameplay in World of Warcraft and to provide a positive experience for players, we are currently taking steps to ensure fair and enjoyable competition in the Battlegrounds. Starting immediately, we will be issuing warnings and penalties, including suspensions and the removal of Honor points and recently acquired Honor rewards, for non-participation in Battleground games.

We are taking action against thousands of accounts immediately, and will continue to monitor these situations and regularly take action against violators. If you encounter a player in a Battleground who is intentionally not participating in the battle for an extended period of time, please help us track the situation and report the player as AFK. For information on how to complete an in-game AFK report, please go here: (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/pvp/battlegrounds/info.html). All reports will be thoroughly investigated, and corrective action will only be taken if the violation is confirmed.

Thank you for your support and best of luck to you in all of your games in the Battlegrounds!

Hopefully this will serve as a deterrent against causal AFKers and do some damage to cronic AFkers. Not a true fix, but a step in the right direction.

That's awesome that they have been compiling a database and plan to start acting on it.

I bet some AFKer's are in for a nasty surprise.

Awesome.

Blizz usually gets it right. Now those guys who are reported /afk 10+ times a day but still raking in honor for most of the fights are going to be minus the epics, eating temp bans and QQing.

The problem is the sheer volume of players that AFK in BGs. Blizzard won't be able to actually target more then the worst 10% roughly, so in practice many will still find AFKing benifitical simply because the odds of action being taken against them does not out weight the benifits.

This will certainly reduce the number of AFKers, but you go to a AV next week and there will still be spelunkers. The key is deterence and if blizzard cannot deter enough AFKer to stop, then their will still be relative safety in numbers.

I hope they have enough GM's to handle this.

I wonder if they couldn't just solve this by making Honor rewards purchasable with Arena points (but not vice versa) and making a conversation rate.

Probably not, but I'm always willing to suggest a way that I never have to go into one of the 3 original bg's again Smiley: wink

Be nice to see it implemented. Gets really old seeing ppl in pvp gear who just hang out and don't contribute at all but still get rewards for being lazy tools.

You'll know it actually works when players start complaining on the forums. Remember all the bot QQ? Yeah I expect the same thing here, that is if Blizzard does it right.

Many AFK just because there is no risk, when they hear people are losing gear and being suspended and there is even a slight chance it could happen them it will probably cause more people to stop than the GMs.

Yes you should. If you've ever been in a BG with an AFKer, this is your reward for putting up with AFKers for so long. Revel in it. You and many others have earned it.

All we need now is the Alliance to stop crying over AV and queue up.

I win most of the AVs I join...and I am a night elf!

But on topic, maybe finally we can't blame the afkrs for any loss' we get.

Ignore Addramelech's post- typing /AFK in the BGs will just mark you AFK and boot you out of the BG with Deserter status, for those that don't know. Even when it has a space and a word after it, it still marks you as /AFK. I found out the hard way in one of my first BGs in a long time.

/bg To see a list of who's AFK, to report, type "/afk list"! Report them all!

Way to go Blizz! Hopefully this will help alliance in their battles in Alterac Valley, I mean 10 extra people fighting with you can't be a bad thing, right?

I think this is great! I love how all that time someone wasted "cheating" is going to finally come back and bite them in the ***. Now they have to spend a MORE time in the BG's actually participating! They'll probably still be butthurt about it but you gotta admit it's pretty funny.

In regards to the Alliance queueing up for AV. I've seen more queueing up latley. Maybe they are trying to see if something will change now that they are fighting with 40 instead of 30? Just yesterday I actually went to queue up and saw "Alterac Valley 7". I was kinda in shock that that many Alliance were queued up. I never saw above 3 before, and that was even on prime time on a weekend.

Here's to hoping this helps with the AFK problem!

Whenever I start getting upset at the game, Blizzard does something to make it all better. This punishment is everything I hoped and more.

Gotta love being in an unaffected battleground, alliance wins av 70/30 and were getting up to av 37 or something close to that i went in earlier, and the new stance is excellent, i just hope it comes over to europian servers to, which is what i'm going to ask on the eu forums now.
