You can't until you have a 3.0/decent rating, I think, and maybe something like 10 posts minimum.

Make quality posts that other people rate you up for, and not down.

As stated above, you can't rate until other people rate you up to the point where your karma gets high enough that you become a scholar.

When you become a scholar, you'll see a red arrow to rate down and a green arrow to rate up.

Once you have said status, a little green and red arrow appears by people's names with their post, that you can click on to rate up or down that person.

Then how did the first person become a Scholar, did a GM/Admin rate them up?

For some further clarification from the FAQs:

Quote:
Q: I see posters rated as Scholar, Sage and Guru. What's up with that and how do I get a title?

A: That is part of the Karma system. Your Karma rating is determined by averaging every rating your posts have received from the users of the site. The rating comes from posts made under your registered name on any of the rated forums for any game covered by allakhazam.com, but does not include posts on user journals. You must have at least 15 posts before you receive a Karma rating. Then any future post you make will start out at your Karma level. Anonymous posts start at a rating of 2. Titles are assigned to your posts according to the following scale:

Karma below 3 = user. Posts are in orange.
Karma between 3.01 and 3.65 = scholar. Posts are in light blue.
Karma between 3.66 and 4.34 = sage. Posts are in green.
Karma between 4.35 and 5 = guru. Posts are in red.
Administrators posts are in maroon.

Q: What are the karma ratings?

A: Excellent = 5.0
Good = 4.0
Decent = 3.0
Default = 2.0
Awful = 1.0

I've been in there a lot recently.

As long as you're not sub default, who cares?

Scholar status doesn't really mean anything except you can nuke people who disagree with you or annoy you (as the majority do, I would imagine). Or you can use them for good, of course (I assume there is a small minority of posters doing this). But in the end, in less you manage to sub default them you achieve nothing. Scholaring someone when the title implies nothing more than a sunny disposition to your fellow human being achieves nothing, apart from perhaps impressing a few wide eyed newbies to the boards who have not realised that most scholars are as clueless as the next poster.

I would hope that any sensible human being would judge a post by its content and not by the fact that the op has a blue/green/red name.

P.S No offence to any Scholar/Sage/Guru who knows whathe/she is talking about.

P.P.S This post may come off as bitter. This is not the emotion behind the post.

The board is available to anyone and anyone can post. Some people can give bad or misdirecting posts, some people give good posts. Sage is sort of indicator that the person's post are positive contributions (in general).

The Karma serves like a kind of reputation. If someone is, say, Guru it means his posts are usually good and if you get answers from a Guru poster it's likely (note: LIKELY) to be a helpful post. If someone is a spammer he'll get subdefaulted quickly.

I know the answer, and am not willing the share such blasphemous answers.

So why does he get to be a Scholar with such offrailing comments, even though i enjoyed it.

P.S: Still wonder which GM got to pick the first scholar and give him infinite power of rating up/down.

They removed it for some reason or another. The details were a little foggy in the thread about it in the Site and Forum Feedback thread on it.

But how does one knows he/she has optained certain points of Karma, is there no way we can check, is the only solution waiting to be a scholar?

What happens when you get sub-default anyway? Can`t you post anymore?

PS: The chicken was there first. She then crossed the road and got hit by a truck :P

As Poldaron said, they removed it for some reason or another. You must wait and see.

Chicken or Egg?

Assuming you accept evolution as fact, the egg came first. Go back in time, through the evolution of chickens and eggs. You'll soon reach the point where the ancestors of chickens were reptiles, which no longer have any attributes of the creature we know today as the chicken. You have to go back much further, past reptiles, before the objects laid by these pre-chickens can no longer be classified as eggs.
