The theory i heard was that it was designed to be that slow so that in the week before it could be downloaded in the background so tha when it went live it just had to install. For me it went pretty good. The day it went live I only had about 4 megs left to download, instead of the 400+ megs. If you had not been playing the previous week and logged in that would suck because it would take hours even with a fast connection. I liked it better than the old way when you sat down to play and had to wait 2-3 hours the release day for overloaded servers to download. I only had to wait 10-15 mins.

When an item is a component in a recipe, please include the profession name and the skill level required to use those listed recipes.

Reasoning: When you have an item and you know it's used (for example) for leatherworking and tailoring, you cannot easily determine which recipes belong to which profession. If the recipe is for your profession, it would be nice to know if you currently have the skill level to use the component you are looking up.

Edited for readability.

I sent this as a suggestion to one of the Admins months ago, who said they'd pass that along to developers. The Thottbot "relational" item information is far superior to the current state of Allakhazam's.

I'd like to see a "Quests by Level" database option.

SUGGESTION:
I would like the ability to search by Zone and Level.
Right now I can do one or the other, but not both.

I think it would be really cool if the interaction between the site and the characters you upload via WoWReader increased.

For instance, say WoWReader is modified to also upload your quest log. You can then click on the various quests in the quest log, and be brought to the quest information that is on the site.

Another possibility would be a "quest route suggester", which would suggest quests based on the level of your character and the current area that you're in. It could even suggest the optimal series of actions for your location! And if you continually and consistently update your character profile on Alla while you level, it will automatically exclude any quests you have already done.

For example; say you log your level 32 Alliance character out in Booty Bay. You ask the quest suggester what you should do next. It then browses the quest data base for nearby zones, and suggests that you:

1) Accept quests from such and such NPCs in Booty Bay. (gives links to the NPCs and quests)
2) Travel up to Nesingwary's Camp and accept the quests offered there. (gives coordinates of Nesingwary's Camp, links to the NPCs there, and links to the quests)
3) Head up to the Rebel Camp and accept those quests. (same as above)
4) Kill enemies in the Kurzen camp (gives location of the Kurzen camp and links to the enemies you have to kill)
5) Kill beasts for the Nesingwary quests (gives locations of the beasts and links to their data)
6) Turn in quests at the Rebel Camp (gives links to quests and loc. of the Rebel Camp)
7) Turn in quests at Nesingwary's Camp (gives links to quests and loc. of turn-in NPCs)
8) Kill enemies for the quests you received back at Booty Bay

...and so on. (sorta like Mapquest)

Another idea would be to give suggested grinding spots based on your character's level, faction, and professions. It would calculate the value of vendor trash, average item price on the AH, whether not the location would be easily accessible (it wouldn't suggest Deadmines for a Hordie, for instance), and whether or not your gathering professions can take advantage of the area, then display the top-valued areas for your purposes and the coordinates of the mobs you want to hunt.

In short, just more ways to improve the experience in-game while increasing site interactivity with your uploaded profiles.

This is a fantastic idea. Even if not incorporated into the wowreader many of the suggestions would be extemely useful

For item searches I would like to see the static drop query exclude the honor system rewards. A separate query for vendored goods might be a better fit.

Its been mentioned plenty of times but I would still like to see a mod section for the site. I know there are three great sites out there already but its really the only reason I go anywhere else.

I'd be willing to volunteer some time to help code up parts of Dodo's suggestions as well. pm me

Like you said, there are alot of sites out there which already focus on add-ons. The big problem here is that many addon authors like to build sites around their add ons, and would rather that other people NOT host their addons for them.

That said, what I think we could use is a really good guide to the best addons, and why. Links to the places they live, and an offer to host addons for authors would be useful.

here's a preview of our talent editor: http://wow.allakhazam.com//db/talent.html?class=Warrior
(swap class name to load others, and it does more things that aren't easily apparant)
It's almost fully localized too:
http://wow.allakhazam.com//db/talent.html?class=Warrior&locale=frFR
http://wow.allakhazam.com//db/talent.html?class=Warrior&locale=deDE

I'd love to know of browser problems, but i suspect it might only work in Firefox and Ie7 so far.

It seems like the most common request is a rework of the profession listings...which I agree with. That's not really my department to handle (since WoWreader does a lot of that stuff automatically,) but I'll see what I'm able to do about that.

There are also some other decent requests here I can certainly level with, like those regarding the honor system rewards, putting talent-based abilities onto the ability lists, etc. Yes, we are reading these, so keep 'em comin!

Coleman mentioned it above and I have just posted a similar remark on one of the threads but it would be great if we could get a PVP section? At the bare minimum a link to the armor and weapon sets with the new honor and token costs. And if people are so inclined guides to each BG?

edit: I should learn to read the post immediately above...

I'd like to see a PvP rewards section, allowing one to specify (drop down lists):

Class
Level
Faction (City/WSG/AB/AV/All)

And see all the rewards and their new honor cost.

Basically Generating something like this:

but with mouseovers.

Gahhh I just somehow lost everything I was typing. Damn IE browser... anyways I agree with the few posts above this one. PVP equipment, weapons, mounts would be a great section to have. Item Honor and Marks costs would also be spectacular. I for one can start taking screenshots and submitting them if it would be benefitial.

The equipment as it stands shows who it is obtained from, and the location, but not the cost. I think about them frequently while at work and would like to know what I need.

Also, this may have been mentioned.. but an Honor Tab on your WoWReader Characters would be awesome. I know on the main screen shows your total kills, but kills that day, the week, and total honor etc would be an incredible option.

I would just like to see a better search. Including spells, and even factions, would be very helpful. At the very least allow partial name searching for spells.

This is more of a request for the next couple of weeks until BC is released, but I'd like to have the XML link on the Beta items work like the Live version does (by having the item info as opposed to nothing). I realize it's asking for something that will be obsolete in a few weeks, but it would still be nice to have.

And this is why I use Allakhazam. Thanks so much for this.

*Edit* I just checked. The <display_html> tag is still the default "Unknown Item" tag. I'm not sure if it's difficult to make that part sync up or not. If so, it's no big deal.

Yeah, I'm with the being able to view your quests. I have a hard time remembering what quests I have. That way, I can look them up while I'm at work. :)

Do an advanced item search by item level? A lot of items don't have min. required level on it and therefore don't show up when doing a search by min. level.
