I won an Arathi Basin fight.

"What? Was that it, Mazra? You damn post-farmer!"

No, no that was not the reason why I decided to make this thread.

I have been playing this game for almost three years, since the final beta. I have played both factions, Horde and Alliance, and I have about three dozens of alternate characters spread over four or five servers. I have had two level 60 characters, eight level 30+ characters and I have done just about every 5-man instance in the game, from Ragefire Chasm to Upper Blackrock Spire.

But I have never, NEVER seen an epic item drop.

Until now.

I was out in Winterspring farming some Frostsabers for the blood samples used in the very first part of the Tier 0.5 quest for the Soulforge Bracers. There was another player out there as well, farming some leather.

He was an Undead Rogue, I am a Human Paladin.

I charge a Frostsaber thinking the Rogue will ambush and kill me anytime. He does stealth, but he attacks the Frostsaber, helping me kill it. Turns out he is just interested in skinning and since I can help him kill the stuff he can skin, he does not want to try me out.

(I killed him later in a /ready fight)

At some point he helps me kill an add I tagged and when I loot it I noticed it had an item drop, a ring. I used shift-click to loot all so it was not until I checked my inventory that I noticed what kind of a ring it actually was.

[Myrmidon's Signet]

So not only was my first epic drop ever a nice epic, but also a world drop and one I got with some help from an Undead Rogue.

What are the odds?

Now for the big question: Should I sell it, or should I keep it?

I put it up for sale. They usually go for 400-500g on my server.

Epic mount über alles.

I'd suggest selling it for the big bucks if you frequently find yourself short on cash.

Oh no, not at all. I haven't had time to play for the past few days. I logged on to do a Scarlet run, but no one was on so I joined the BG queues. One Arathi Basin fight and then I went to Winterspring to farm some blood while the Alterac Valley queue was ticking (one-hour queues and above really sucks).

I'll see if I can find some time to come play with you guys and gals. Now we're at it, my Warrior would like that RFD run soon, Shmii... Smiley: sly

No, I'm not demanding, what makes you think that?

Winterspring is where I got my first Epic Drop of the Glowing Brightwood Staff. As your drop would be great for a hunter and I Auctioned the staff and bought the Dwarven Hand Cannon, I'm more convinced there is a Blizzard Algorithm that keeps drops from being usable by the recipient.

It will happen when you least expect it and totally change the game for you. But it will happen.

Grats Maz!

Now, not that I wanna gloat or anythingSmiley: sly, but I started playing in December 05. Since then I've seen:

In my mid 50s, I was farming SFK for money. One run, I got both this and this. I know they're not epics, but at the time both were selling for a minimum of 300g on my server. Ended up being a nice 730g run.

One time, I was cleansing cauldrons and saw one of the cauldron lords standing there. No one was around so I killed him. Lo and behold, the bastid was carrying one of these. Ended up selling it for about 70g.

Another time, I saw a group doing some quests in Silithus(Into the Maw of Madness and Glyph Chasing). Those quests had been a blight on my questlog, bgs weren't popping, and no instance runs were forming so I figure what the hey.

It ended up being 3 people from a guild and me. We got the quests done and one of the group members asks if we'd help with a couple other quests. I figure that the groups been great and I'll help out. We finish off two others and go after the Elite scorpion. We kill him and one of his adds drops a pair of these. No one needed them so we rolled greed and I won. Tidy 180g profit right there.

Finally, as far as my favorite BoE Epic drop. I was the only mage in a guild AQ20. We wipe on Rajaxx, but one of the adds drops one of these. As the only mage with the only warlock not wanting it at all, I got defaulted it. As my staff at the time was crappy, I took it, equipped it, got it enchanted and used it until a couple weeks ago when I got my Azuresong Mageblade. I still have it as part of my FR set.

I've seen two other BoE epics drop, but as I didn't win them, they're not as interesting(Hand of Edward the Odd - went to a Paladin on a guild run; and some leather +healing belt that went to a druid on a non-guild run).

Gratz, Mazra. That's some nice cash. I'm still waiting for my first epic (world) drop, and I try very hard not to expect one in order to increase the odds :P. But no luck so far.

graz maz! it's nice when you loot a boe epic on your own or win a greed roll. =)

3 years? did you start out on the us servers? the eu final beta was not even 2 years ago (jan 05). i don't even think us beta was 3 years ago.

According to Wikipedia, it was released in the US on November 23, 2004.
Apparently the EU final beta was opened up on Januray 5, 2005.

But that doesn't make sense. I ditched SWG sometime in October or November 2004 to play the beta. Was it the open beta then?

My cousin got a key for the closed beta, but I don't think I played that.

Oh well, it's been a while anyways. Plus/minus a year, who's counting? Smiley: tongue

Grats Mazra! Definately sell it.
Soulbound gear only goes so far, a good BoE epic drop only comes along once in a blue moon. ^^

On a side note (not to rub it in to those of you who haven't got a drop yet) but I've gotten 3 epic world drops so far... Eye of flame, hand of edward the odd, and the eye of shadow.
Those cauldren ghosts in WPL seem to drop epics pretty frequently...

But, worry not guys, there is still balance in the universe: my /random dice are seriously damaged when it comes to gear I need. Smiley: cry

While it's nice to loot a purple, it's even better to be able to /random over 40 when it counts.

Well I guess I have been lucky.
I soloed from 0-60 Warrior in two months and have done little else so far.
At level 48 Staff of Jordan dropped (sold for 450g) and one week later at
lvl52 Ring of Saviours dropped (sold for 150g).
It certainly changes your outlook on the game, instant addiction!.
Three more weeks have passed and I am starting to wonder why my 3rd epic hasn't dropped yet :)

Edit... I should mention that I prefered to grind rather than quest for EXP

us final and then open beta were in october/november 04.

closed beta obviously much earlier on both continents, with increasing numbers. i have no exact dates, but it was months before october 04, even though eu was a bit behind us. but then a lot of the testing was already done in the us.

we played in final beta in the us in october/november and then had to wait until jan to get into final beta eu.

QFT. All my luck has been balanced by last night's roll of a 1 on the Netherwind Crown drop off of Onyxia.

You should keep it, so you can remember it for the next 3 years, until your next epic drop.

I got my first at lvl 59, about 2 month into the game

I think my first epic was a drop in ST, a Freezing Band (sold for 80g), followed up by a Lifestone from the Burning Steppes which sold for 550g and then a few months later I got an Ardent Custodian off the Naga south of Feathermoon which sold for about 70g to a guildie.

3 world epics in about 19 months. I consider myself quite lucky.

And on the plus side, while farming for my normal mount on Anatheran last night, I had a Skeletal Shoulders drop. As of this morning, it hadn't sold (@22g) but regardless of what it eventually sells for, that's still a pretty chunk of change to get me towards my level 40 mount (when I finished last night, I was still ~35g shy, though I had ground out nearly my entire level (15% away from 42)).
