So, on Thursday, I was playing soccer with my students. I jumped up to head a ball, came down toes first and dislocated my right knee. Luckily, it snapped back into place right away so it was a little less drastic...

Anyways, my knee is the size of a grapefruit now :/ Anyone know anything that will help heal it faster. I am taking a lot of vitamins, iceing it down and all those fun things, but I am willing to try anythings :)

Thanks in advance :)

Have you tried a doctor? I hear they're familiar with this type of thing.

No, due to the fact that I am a teacher, and make not near enough. School doesn't provide Health Care at the moment due to it being smaller. Thanks for the sarcasm though, its always unappreciated :)

I've had my knee do similar but never quite as severely as you describe; it'll only half-dislocate and pop right back into place but it hurts like hell even for a week afterwards. When this happens to me I find that bending the knee only makes things worse (causes it to swell right back up and increases the pain dramatically). The very first time this happened to me it took about month to fully heal because I kept going about my normal business. If you don't intend on going to a doctor (which, I hate to say it, you really should) then keep the leg as straight as possible at all times, ice will help keep the swelling down and will also help ease the pain. If the teaching field you're in requires you to bend your knee (such as a coach) I'd most certainly recommend getting a doctor's note excusing you from these activites for a while.

Maybe you can afford a free nurse?

http://www.ask-a-nurse.com/search.asp

Surely you'd agree that a medical professional is a better source of medical advice than a bunch of video game players, particularly these video game players.

I don't know if you'll appreciate this part, but if you say you're already "taking a lot of vitamins, iceing it down and all those fun things," it's hard for someone to advise you what additional steps to take, as what that person advises might already be one of "all those fun things" you're trying.

Good luck, teach.

I am a medical professional (nurse) and you're doing everything right - except not being able to see the doctor, which i can understand. Try anti-inflammatories as well. Ibuprofen products or Naproxen types also help the healing process. And since you were working this would be a work comp issue and you should find out about your school's work comp coverage and have them send you to a doctor. That will take care of the MD end of things. 2 days after injury you should start alternating ice and heat on the joint. That also promotes healing while reducing swelling. And by all means keep it elevated as much as possible and stay off of it. Hope this helps.

Have a friend go to the goodwill thrift store and pick you up a tin cup and a cane. If you’re going to avoid a doctor and only take medical advice from Allakhazam, you’re going to need the tin cup to beg for change.

I agree that if it is job related it is workman’s comp all the way. I'd also suggest that since it's an injury the school if not paying WC had better have a good insurance policy because you should be pwning the principle. Also, is there no school nurse? They ain’t just for the students. I’d check the local Free Clinic also.

Hell, not even Evil Keneval would trust Alla for medical advice.

<<<Looks both ways to see if the AMA is watching>>>

As an old Infantryman I've found the Bayer Asprin Heart Prevention (I think its a low dose 81mg) tablets taken per the heart regiment will help tons with other muscle regeneration.

I take one every other day just because I'm now getting old. Haven't had a problem with Advil when I need pain relief that way.
