Yes, it's new PC time again. Almost all of the parts have arrived with the last few due to arrive within 2 days. I'm so excited I can hardly wait... maybe this is why I've been in such a good mood lately. Anyways, here are the specs:

/shameless Smiley: spam

Intel P4 Dual-Core Extreme Edition (3.2ghz with HT)
2X Western Digital 74.3gig 10,000RPM Raptor Drives (These will make up a Raid0 drive)
A WD 120gig 7200 RPM HD for windows and other... stuff...
Asus P5WD2 Motherboard.
BFG Geforce 7800 GTX OC 256MB PCIE
OCZ 1024MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz EL Gold Dual Channel
Creative Labs SB Audigy 2 ZS

A few notes:

-Only 1gig of ram... I know... but that will be enough for now. I can always add more later
-I did look into SLI but I couldn't find a board that does that processor with SLI, another thing to upgrade later I suppose... But, on a lighter note, this motherboard came with an SLI bridge for "Future Upgrades" as the manual says. So who knows, maybe all I'll need is a BIOS flash and I can do SLI.
-I got a pretty case and a 500W power supply on the way, all blue.
-Yes, sub-par audio card. I don't want anything too 'fancy shmancy' because I know I won't use it all. This is good enough to get the audio processing off the main processor and on to a seperate SB Card.

Anyways, I was wondering if this system would be able to run WoW. I certainly hope it's a 'yes'. Smiley: grin

hmm I dunno.. I mean... are the post that hold the motherboard off the back-plate up to proper spec???

if not we could be in trouble with your new build, WoW's just not the same without proper mommyboard posts..... Smiley: tongue

Nice specs :) you're a rich man (probably not after buying these parts)

Your Raptors should be the basic C:\ drive, virtual memory pagefile and swapping takes place in that drive, virtual OS machines and logical scripts load there, demanding applications and games run from there (even if you've installed them on another drive) therefore its worthwhile to make the two Raptors a RAID 0+1 (not just 0) C:\ drive, and install WoW there.

Keep the 120 gigs for archiving, you don't need Raptor speed for playing whatever "media" you archive, an MP3 or a video doesn't require a high transfer rate.

Just an advice :)

Are those RAMs DDR2? How much did you get them for?

lol, yeah it wasn't cheap, but it'll be worth it.

I was actually planning on making the 120gig the C:\ and just putting the windows pagefile on to the raptor drives. Effectively splitting up windows and the swapping if you will... Smiley: wink Of course, all the games etc. will be on the Raid0.

Yup, the ram is DDR2, I believe I paid about $250 CAD for them. Pricey I know, but I wanted 800MHz ram. And me gets what me wants.

Be sure that your power source is at least 30amps ... I know a lotta folks just read the wattage rating and think that it'll work. .. The 550 watt PS that came with my box was rated at 18amps on the +12V line and it was unstable.

I purchased a 30amp +12v PS and it was fine.

hmm i play WoW with a
900 mhz athlon
384 mb sd-ramd
32 mb elsa gladiac gts
don´t laught =(
and believe me or not, it´s working fine, unless i am in
OG or in crowded pvp-places.
the big phat advantage is that every time an ally gets close to me it lags for a milisecond or so, so i am always warned, harr harr. and yes i do well in pvp (unless as mentioned above the place is too crowded)
edit:OCZ rocks!

I myself am also planning to get new PC pieces that are not too expensive, but hopefully will be worthwile. :) I plan to get an AMD Athlon XP-mobile 2400 and overclock it to 2.4GHz with a 1GB stick of OCZ PC3200 RAM. Couple of HDD's for Raid 0 and an external enclosure device for my current harddrive. $600 for my whole setup, but it hopefully will be pretty mean! Well... not too mean, but enough for my low budget.

Edit: Its a whole computer BTW, not just those pieces. I am also getting the heatsink fan, Arctic Silver Thermal paste, 5.1 Speakers, Case + Power Supply, etc.. a whole new build.
