I'm trying to program a macro to assist X and have pet attack...plus any other neat macro info would be cool

This will assist whoever you currently have targeted. Add a space and the players name if you don't want to keep clicking on them (/assist Joe).

While your macro window is open, open your abilities window, you can shift-left-click any ability (including pet abilities) and they will show up as a /cast line in the macro.

Because almost every ability will create ability recycles, you can usually only have 1 or 2 abilities per macro.
