If there is one thing I miss about ffxi it's people messaging me with this, it's like a free invitation to completely rip into someone with every thing you have.

Not once in my WoW days have I been messaged for gold borrowing and I wish sometimes somebody would, because I have a lot of stress I need to let out. It's kinda like when someone posts "OMFG THE SERVERS CRASHED" "Best race/class choice for pvp?" It's just a free invitation to rip on someone, by the way, omfg the serverz r down n I cant log. So I'm bored and I'm going to start pointless, inane threads that help no one, in fact if you read them, they might lower your I.Q.

Has anyone seen any beggars on their server?

If they accept WoW currency then... no. If they accept cash then... no.

My usual answer to any begging question would be, "There's only two things I pay for, pizza and ***, and even when both are bad, I still have to pay."

I actually encountered a beggar. He begged me for some damned silver for over 45 minutes. And then I made him realize how much of a dumbass he was by saying "Do you realize in the time you have been begging me for silver, you could have made twice what you are asking for?" Needless to say, he shut his *** up.

I've encountered beggars. They aren't as plentiful though.

Been playing WoW for over a month now, and I've yet to see the first beggar.

Crazy stuff, I have crap I'd give em, if they'd show.

Same here. I don't give a hand out to everyone, but if its something I can easily spare, then I help. I think its rather sad that you rip on people over something as trivial as this when there are people doing far worse to the game than asking for a handout. If you don't want to give them one, fine, but calling them names and junk just makes you look like a jerk.

haha, this post made me laugh. I think the reason people in ffxi begged for money is because the people in ffxi were final fantasy players and not mmo players, so they were really new at the whole mmo experience. thats my reasoning anyways.

but really, thanks for makign a post that wasnt so boring, i actually got my face to laugh...
yes my face laughed

I remember one time I was raising my fishing in Thunder Bluff, and this orc came up to me and said, "Hey man could you spare some money?". He seemed alright so I asked how much he needed. He responded, "I need about treefiddy." Well is was about that time I realized that this orc was about eight stories tall and was a crustacean from the palezoic era. That's right, it was the Loch Ness monster. I said, "Dammit monster! I'm trying to fish here! I ain't givin you no treefiddy!".

I hate beggars...

I give things away to noobs a lot, the thing of it is, thats only if they DON'T ask. If I see some haplas noob running around, sometimes I'll open the trade window and give him a few silvers just to be nice. I think this practice stems from back in my EQ days when I was a noob and some generous person gave me 100pp on day. Back then that was a LOT of money for a lowbie character. So I like to spread the wealth. However, if someone is begging, I tell them to **** off =)

I think alot of the players begging for gil in FFXI were probably mid-high levels just trying to make a quick buck on their mules. I remember one guy /shouting in Port San d'Oria that someone tricked him into trading all of his gear, including his San d'Orian ring. Well, everyone knew that that ring is marked as EX (can't be traded, kind of like soulbound stuff) and the flaming commenced. That was pretty funny.

I like what Jarl said, I remember when I was a TOTAL newb in FFXI, a nice guy randomly gave me some gill and told me what armor I could buy with it. Now that I know how to get good things/money, I will sometimes do that to newbs who seem nice.

There was a human female in IF about 2 weeks ago running around spamming the trade window on people near the bank and then saying "gp or sp plz", after the 4th time I hit the duel challenge and she seemed to get the point but continued to harass other people.

I haven't met anyone begging yet, but I have been giving away leather stuff that I make. I was in Darnassus leveling my leatherworking, and walked up to a level 10 rogue and asked him if he needed armour. I wound up giving him dark boots, dark leather pants, and fine leather gloves. He said the the stuff was "godlike" and was very appreciative. I felt pretty good about that.

Yeah it's definately a different story when you give someone something that they don't ask for, I guess I'm all for charity, I think I'd even be alright if someone asked in a different manner. But I just hate it when people send me /tells "u got good stuff can I have gilz plz" I mean, what the hell is up with the z's, is your ******* s key broken you ****!? I never understood half the computer lingo, I was especially bad when first starting ffxi, I asked someone, "what the hell does LoL mean?"
they just replied, "LOL." and I thought to myself, dammit, i asked a simple question no need to mock me!

It IS funny... people dont seem to GET how easy it is to make money in WoW.

Just LOOT EVERY BLASTED THING YOU COME ACROSS.

I have grouped with people who leave TONS of items, silks, wool, cloth, and other assorted grey item crap on the corpses and they always wonder why Im toting no less than 5 or 6 gold on me at any given moment (even after getting my druid spells and upgrading armor).

WELL DUH! I gave one begger an 8 slot bag I was carrying around (spare) and told him "go fill this with crap off mobs and then sell it.. it'd be more money than you are asking for I'll bet"

Sheesh.

Now Im a nice guy when Im passing through lowbie lands and I hear people asking for stuff like "I need 1 or 2 light leathers please?" since I never actually USE them anymore, and if Im carrying a bunch, I always wind up giving them away and people seem so floored that I dont want anything in return. *chuckle*

But one guy was in IF the other day begging for (get this) 9 GOLD for his guild. And he's YELLING "Can anyone spare 9 gold for a pore guild" "Pore"??? I told him "No, because you cant spell" :D

I've had about one or two beggars in wow, I'm level 58 now.

I just laugh at them in reply, like:

"Any spare golds?"

"AHHAHAHAH, AHHAHA THAT IS RICH! HAHAHA FUNNY STUFF. HAHHAH LAUGH!"

Then I get no response.

Beggins sucks, especially in a game like WoW where it isn't impossible to make money just by heading out into the wild.

In FFXI it really annoyed me because I'd work really hard to earn 1000 gilz, and then some n00b would come up and say can i borrow 500? And I think to myself, wtf? I spent all day making 1000 gil, and now you want half of my work for nothing? Die you little begging creep! Please stop talking to me, /blist ImANOOB

No offense but you aren't doing anyone a favor by giving handouts. You are encouraging people to get through the game being lazy and leeching off other and you are fostering a whole new set of people that will roll on stuff they don't need, and steal resource nodes.

Plus people like this never just ask you once. They ask you over and over and over and when you say no, they start spamming you with swears and insults.

Begging isn't trivial. It's annoying and spam and created poor players. I don't log on to WoW to get harrassed. I log on to play and have fun.

Yeah, I can ignore the tells but I shouldn't be getting them in the first place.
