What's with the 280 AA thing?Follow

#1 Jul 24 2012 at 12:59 PM Rating: Decent
hi

i don't play allot anymore and i almost always solo.

My Swashbuckler is now finally 90 and has 240 AA.

It seems i can't go past 90 till i get 280 AA?

Why would Sony think i want to grind 40 AA points and not get a single point toward level 91.

This seems manifestly ridiculous to me.

My play time looks to become even less now (sigh).

They drew an imaginary line, and set it up that way to that anyone advancing past 90 has access to their Heroic AA tree. Seems to be a way to make sure they can' create fair content for the 90+.

Like Calthine said, it was easier for the devs to create content for characters with a certain amount of power and experience in mind than try to balance everything for characters that could be anywhere from level 88 with 75 AA to level 90 with max AA. It would have been a coding and balancing nightmare.

hi

I was thinking not so much of a content issue but more of a frustration issue.

to have to grind 40 AA points at 90 and get not 1 point of xp while doing it is not worth the effort.

easier to retire my swashy and just play my other toons till Sony changes it i guess.

50/50 would have been more reasonable.

I feel your pain. My main was at 290ish AA when this went live, so she was the only one offhand that was fine. I got my Conjuror up to 280+ AA finally but my Troubador still has about 30 AAs to go. Just take advantage of xp potions and double xp weekends whenever you can. AAs seem to fly during double xp weekends.

My next character that'll hit 90 is my Inquisitor, and she only has 162 AA. That is NOT going to be fun. =\

Well, think of it like this...

If you're level 92 and the person you're playing with is level 92 also, but only has 45 AA's, do you really want to group with them? Do you want the rest of the group to carry this person or do you want this person to work as hard as the rest of the group?

I know it's frustrating, but I think it's only fair for high level characters who prefer to group or raid.

I understand the rationale, but for someone who primarily solos or only groups with close friends who don't care about my AAs, it's frustrating to be subjected to it. It's also a feeling of SOE acting like a nanny for groups. /shrug

You really think it's feasible to hit 92 with only 45 AAs? Smiley: lol

Oh also, just out of annoyance, my Conjuror was really low AA and in her 70s when this "280 for 91+" was announced. I spent her current AAs (just over 100) and haven't spent an AA since. She has over 280 AAs, only has spent 106, and is almost level 91. I'm not going to join anyone's group, as I'm not that foolish, but I did it more as a /rude to their flawed decision process there.

I'll spend them once I hit 92. Here's a pic from a couple months ago: http://twitpic.com/9m1mh9 Smiley: grin

People can decide on who to group with. The idea this rule is in place to prevent lower AA'd players from being a detriment to a group, if correct, is completely ridiculous. As if a group leader is not capable of either asking for your AA status. What's next? Two necromancers can only group together if they hire a healer mercenary or a tank because SOE knows best and wants to "enhance your grouping experience?"

Nah.

Look into my eyes, people, as I say this: "Look to the money, and all things shall be revealed."

SOE is really smart with this one. They dangle two more levels at the players but put a time-consuming and profit-tailored qualification on it.

Who benefits? You could say the players are 'Forced into benefitting from SOE's super-smart push to empower your characters" if you like. If you think in that angled fashion.

Or you could just keep it simple and stay with the cash flow.

People play longer and more in order to get the AA's. Those who can will buy consumables left and right. And I believe most long term players have at least two if not several more Level 90. players. So, double, triple the time and so on, and the same with the amount spent on consumables, and so on.

Kudos to SOE. From a business point, they hit the mark with this one. They have nothing to lose...I would wager it has been "All Gain" with this 280AA "rule."

I think the 280 AA thing is good, it sets a certain standard for new content.

I am also a mainly solo player and I find that by following the solo questlines I can head towards 280 easily. On my Magician (who I neglected for a while) I am doing the Great Divide and Eastern Wastes Timelines and will easily be passed 280 by the time I am finished.

Grinding a camp is not the best way to do anything except if you want specific loot or faction.

I could also see it just frustrating people to the point they just quit. Honestly if I hit 90 and feel like a have a huge grind I prob will just cancel and go play something else. I will admit I am a bit stubborn though. Right now I am at 108 aa lvl 73 so I am sure this will be an issue as well for me in the future.

Nah, you'll be fine. I have a launch-era toon that's playing catchup (there was no AA at launch so basically all those ills before level 70 or so I never got AA for) and she's managing. Do all the events, new content, and don't forget the Chronomage.

Chelsith - got my final 40 AAs in Chelsith. Chrono to 80 and beat on an easy zone for a bit, you'll see the AAs stack up fast.

My toon is also from close to the launch era, it was frustrating to have done so many quests and suddenly all new players got AA for it, chronomages are great for named kills, but when a quest's done, it's done. Still, I grinded like crazy when I hit 90 to get up to 300. Quit at 296 and after coming back, I got the final four for free from Sony. Fun!

I solo a lot, if not all the time, to get to 280 is a bit of a struggle, I'll admit, but do all the quests you can find and definitely save the big lower level dungeons you might not have done as of yet for a double xp weekend. Then hit the chronomage and really get some smooth axp.

OK so they are giving this magic thing to all those level 90's that cannot be bothered to do the work of actually playing the game and earning their level 91 and above.

What are Sony going to give to use that have done the work to get the AA....Nothing.

Again the ...lets make it easy crowd win.

Clarification: The 280AA bauble is limited to 2/account. I don't agree with putting it in at all either, personally, but at least it's not 1/character. (I would have rather have seen the AA limit abolished)
