My wife and I were working on the "The screaming Mace" quest in Cazic Thule. We were clearing Lizards in order to get Hukulan the Despoiler to spawn. The place was deserted and after about 1/2 hour of killing the lizards, Hukulan spawned. We were waiting for power to get ready to kill him. Out of nowhere a level 90 SK named Thailander shows up and wipes our mob. I was so pissed I had to post this. If anyone runs into Thailander tell him he's an A-Hole.

I'm sick and tired of 90's ruining low level peoples quests.

I think SOE should implement a way to keep high level characters out of low level zones unless they are mentored or something.

I just had to rant. If anyone else has stories like this, please post them. Maybe Sony will do something about it.

So sorry your camp got busted up. Alas, posting about folks won't get any action against folks like that. What you can do is report and petition them. First report, like this:

/report PlayerName Brief description
like: /report SomeAHole Stealing Mobs

This sends the last 100 lines of chat to the GMs. Hopefully it shows you taking about waiting for the mob and him killing it and you saying "HEY! DO YOU MIND??"

Then /petition, but say something like "I just sent a /report on SomeAHole. He just came through our camp and stole the named we'd been waiting an hour for. He's not even the right level!" Be polite, non-raging, and thorough.

They may take action against the player if they feel any is warranted. Be aware that they will never tell you whether or not they took action.

That really bites, it was a real pest in EQI but it's not enjoyable in EQII either.

Mentoring won't change much, a lvl 90 mentored down to the 'appropriate level' with a bit decent gear will tear up just about any named (even epic x2 or at times 4) in a zone. There are some exceptions, in several instances they won't be able to do as well on their own. But usually a lvl 90 will tear through a zone, mentored or not.

This player was an ahole, no doubt about it, especially if not mentored as the kill will not give him anything, no aa nor drops.

edited to add: if you ever have this again and are really outraged by it, check if the player belongs to a guild. Then try to contact the guildleader if you can find him. Some guilds do not appreciate things like this. It won't bring the mob back and to be honest, it's less grief to just start camping again. (unlike EQI where a mob might take days to pop.)

edited again: (I'm on a roll today :D): Sony will most likely not do anything about this, given the swift respawn time of most named mobs. There are some methods in the game to prevent killsteals, but campstealing is just unavoidable. Short of making grey mobs untargetable, but that's going way too far.

The exception being if they have had tons of complaints of... let's call it "unsportsmanlike conduct," they may choose a disciplinary action. Or at least give them a talking to.

Making grey mobs untargetable if you don't have that quest in your log would work.

True, but some zones require killing mobs to progress, it would be complicated I guess.

The other side of the coin is that he was doing the quest as well, rushing about as people do and killed it, as it was up and he needed it. As the mobs spawn every time on a very short timer, while it is a pain is hardly gamebreaking.

Years ago would have been a different matter as people would have been in the zone for days trying to get the right named to pop.
