Bunch of wannabe's questionsFollow

I'm planning to give EQ2 a go, but before that I'd like to know a few things. For some reason, I can't post a thread on the official forums, so (after a good while of an effort:p) I've found this place. If you'd be so kind, please tell me:

1. I've allready downloaded the game, and played for a while, but Bronze membership seems to lack even chatting option - though it might be that those two guys simply ignored me - not to mention that I had only one server to choose from. I really should upgrade to Silver if I want to have a decent fun, should I?

2. Can Paladin (I know, I'd have to buy that class) tank, and is he good at it?

3. What is the game itself about, when it comes to that? Raiding, dungeoning, questing, grind?

4. When I played, I noticed that I can gather all the resources, all those ores, herbs, lumber and pelts. Can I train my character in all those tradeskills, not having to choose few of them?

5. Can I reset my char's skills/talents/powers/whatever they're called in EQ2, at any time, or do I have to be carrrreful with spending those?

6. Housing, is it expensive and time consuming? And does it have any other functions than your pixel-made place in the world? (besides a good spot for a while of cyber ehm, ehm, if you're into it^^)

7. I know there are two RP servers. Which one of them'd be better for a Good character? You know, with more cool guilds and cool players. Talking about RP, are there all those nice, little things that make role playing more pleasant, like loads of non-combat clothes, torches, etc? I allready like a vast amount of emotes, and even different voices to choose from.

That'd be it. Id be most thankful to anyone who'd bother to answer them.

1. Silver isn't necessary but since it's a one-time fee it's very much worth it IMO. You'll get two more char slots, a bit more bank space (including a shared bank slot), can upgrade your abilities a bit further, can use more chat, can receive mail... definitely worth it. :)

2. Hopefully someone better versed in Paladins can answer this, but from what I've noticed they are pretty good tanks. Guardians and Shadowknights are also good at tanking. Berserkers are better at DPS then tanking, but can hold their own if they have to.

3. It's about whatever you want it to be about. There's raiding, grouping, questing, grinding xp (instead of questing), decorating, crafting. Personally I prefer mostly solo questing and decorating but I occasionally hop into groups with my friends/guildies. I also craft, especially with my carpenter. ;) It's whatever you make it though!

4. A character can have one primary tradeskill and any of the secondary tradeskills. Primary ones are Armorer, Alchemist, Carpenter, Provisioner, Sage, Jeweler, Tailor, Weaponsmith and Woodworker. Secondary ones are Tinkering and Adorning (transmuting, which everyone has, supplements adorning). A lot of those resources will be useful to a crafting class though.. for instance, on my Tailor I end up using pelts, ore and roots mainly. http://eq2.zam.com/wiki/Crafting_Classes_(EQ2) for more crafting class info!

5. You can reset your alternate advancements (AAs) -- the first time should be free, after that you'd have to pay for a respecialization card. http://eq2.zam.com/wiki/Alternate_Advancements_(EQ2)

6. The basic inn rooms are free to buy and cost 5 silver per week of upkeep. If you want to upgrade to bigger houses they can get more expensive, but you're never required to do so. It's only time consuming if you make it time consuming (depends how much you like decorating!). Functionality: Subscribers can have their broker sales crates setup in their house so people can come visit and avoid paying extra broker fees to purchase things. Anyone can get rewards/house items that are house placeable only that allow you to teleport directly to other zones. You also get lots of house items as quest rewards and it's useful to have a house just to place them somewhere! Also as a Free/Silver account, owning a house gives you 6 extra slots to put bags in to store things, which is more than a Silver's bank space alone. :D http://eq2.zam.com/wiki/Housing_(EQ2)

7. There's only really one RP server now that Lucan D'Lere merged into Crushbone, but there are still some roleplayers on Crushbone. However, I'd recommend Antonia Bayle for an RP server, it has a lot more roleplay activity going on and even frequent player run events. There are TONS of appearance items, even normal equipment you pickup (and that your class/level can wear) can be used for appearance. In your character window click the appearance tab and that's where you put your appearance stuff. There are a few odds-and-ends you can put in the weapon slots that aren't very weapon-like, but I don't think torches are one of them.

Welcome to EQ2 and if you have anymore questions let us know! Smiley: nod

Thank you for the most kind answers^^. I'll add ae post every time I can rub two questions together. I think I can do so right now:

1. Antonia Bayle, it's an European or USA server? And if it's USA, is time difference a serious issue, or are there many Europeans?

2. Erm... I swear I remembered the second one an hour ago. My bad.
#4 Feb 01 2012 at 1:15 PM Rating: Decent
AB is US, but not US specific. Time differences might come into play, but as part of my regular raid force I have people in many non-US time zones involved.

For the europeans with day jobs, it might be harder, but perhaps my co-raiders have more flexible schedules.

I'm still trying to figure out why you couldn't post on the official forums and why you could only access one server. That's weird.

Because before December all free-to-play was on EQ2 Extended, which had it's own segregated server and forums.

So where can I, when I'll have Silver membership, register and post? Not to mention, how am I to play the correct game version? I bet there's some proper application for that, nastily hidden... *searches*

A few more newbie questions, if you don't mind^^. On Antonia Bayle, can anyone point me to a mostly/fully European RP guild? So time difference shant be an issue.

Will I loose a lot by not having access to an auction house? I guess that there'll be large hand-to-hand trade, but who knows (that is, lot of people know it, I don't. Eh heh).

Is grinding/farming often neccesary? I like to do it for an hour, from time to time, but Lineage 2-like farm is just evil.

Raids and dungeons, they are generally hard or easy? For pugs, that is. I'll look for an RP guild, so I doubt I'll roll with a lot of hardcore gamerz.

You should be able to post even with a Free account. Try logging in at this url: http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/forums/list.m If you need to redownload the game then go to: http://eq2.zam.com/wiki/Installer_(eq2) and pick if you want streaming or full. If you already have the launchpad for the game though you don't need to download anything!

I don't know of any AB guilds but if you use "U" in-game on an unguilded character it'll bring up a list of guilds. Then you can filter them and I'm sure that any Euro guilds will have that in their description! :)

Grinding isn't really necessary; it's up to the player whether or not they want to play that way and when. There are more than enough quests to take a person from 1-90 and you'd still not be done with every quest out there.

Can't really answer your last question as it would really depend on your server. :)

Aye, that's exacly where I can't post! Mayhap that I'm blind and don't see any "post topic", "new thread" or however it's called button, but I guess me eyesight isn't that bad.

Full launcher, one after which the game weights around 14GB? That's what I've installed, found it in... erm, I don't remember, can only guess it was an official site. The installer you've kindly provided (full version) tells me that he detects game allready installed.

Are you sure that you're logged in? I know that may sound silly but they recently changed their forums to auto-logout everyone after 3 hours.

Okay the version you have installed should be the one to use... you execute the game with the LaunchPad.exe file. :)

At least I've got a correct version of the game installed^^.

Yes, that's where I do log in. It's not the first time something like that happens - it was so also on, I think, D&D Online forums, maybe on WoW's (ages ago) as well.

There's also a question of why do I have an access to only one server. I think I've passed somewhere an info about Bronze's being able to play only on this one, but I am not sure.

Check your "region" (version?) on the upper left-hand corner of your Launchpad. You can click it to change the region. Most servers are US English region.

It works, choosing a region that is. Thank you again^^.

About buying Silver Membership - "The Silver Membership can be purchased via a onetime Station Cash transaction (Silver Pack Item) available for $5.00 or 500SC in-game." So, speaking in a blunt manner that I can understand, I have to start the game, enter Marketplace and choose Silver Pack Item to buy, yes? And will it be the same with classes, ergo, I have to make a character number 1 even if only to buy a class pack and dump it? Well, hopefully tomorrow the money'll get into PayPal, eh heh.

Yes, purchase the Silver membership on the Marketplace. You can buy character and race packs from character select, though you might have to at least temporarily create one character for the "shop now" button to show on there.

I was looking at the date the OP was posted and thought they had tried to play recently. I guess they're referring to when it was segregated.
Ah, and now I see (after reading more), they were logged out AND in the wrong region.

Ok, I'm all caught up now. Smiley: grin

If that's the case, then again I'm stupid and do not know how to change the region on the official site. I see the I can change the site's language, but not region.

P.S Now that I can buy it Station Cash, the game tells me that I cannot - it tells me that Marketplace is unavailable with my operation system, which is Windows 7 32bit, and that I should "upgrade" to XP. Error begins with "the marketplace feature you are trying to access". So far the Internet haven't helped me with that one.

P.S 2. An error also occures (says something about certification) when I try to buy Station Cash via the official site, http://www.everquest2.com/shop

I have no idea there, that's very odd. My suggestion would be to contact SOE's support for that one: http://www.soe.com/support/ and click on "View Your Service History" and then "Open a Support Ticket". Hopefully they can figure out why it'd be doing that! Smiley: nod

If you mean the website, then I'm not sure. But if you're talking about changing the region on the game so that you can access more than one server, it's at the top left of the patcher. You can pick US English, EU English, German, Russian, Test Server, etc. that way.

Thank you! For now, Sony's denying everything:

"Thank you for contacting Sony Online Entertainment customer support. The charge appears to have been declined by PayPal. You will need to contact them for more information as to the exact nature of the error."

and

"Thank you for contacting Sony Online Entertainment. In order to resolve the issue with your forum account, you would need to contact the Forum Administrators. You can reach them at Forum.Admin@soe.sony.com."

Maybe these are the right things to do. I will see into it in the next day (or two, it's Sunday tomorrow).

Now I can post on the official forum, huzzah. No idea is it a move on SOE's side, or I am a blind bat and did not see the (truth be told, not that well lit and greatly huge) NEW TOPIC button.

As for PayPal payment, PayPal gave me an advise that did not work, so I am waiting for another bit of help (har, har). In the Internet I have found a topic with a problem same as mine, and someone there said that one does have to have a credit card connected with PayPal. Duh, if I'd have a credit card, I would not need PayPal. *mutters something about modern world and all the technical/electrical/bureaucracy crap*

Anyway, I will search for more help at the official forums now, though if anyone here does have an idea, feel free. Thank you for all the help so far^^.
