Returning DuoFollow

#1 Oct 10 2011 at 5:34 PM Rating: Decent
Hello, I'm a returning player and this will be the first mmo my wife has played. I have a few questions before we make the plunge into eq2. Are lots of people still playing this game? Can we duo most of the content until endgame? How much time does it take a good duo to level up these days? Would it be possible to get much accomplished in an hour or two at a time or am I looking at the wrong game? And most importantly because I'm pretty much decided on coming back haha, what classes make a good duo these days? We're thinking something like ranger/fury but open to all suggestions.

Welcome back! :)

1. I think there's lots of people around still! Some servers are more populated than others. Freeport (the Extended server) and Antonia Bayle are the two most populated afaik.

2. You can duo a fair bit--my husband and I have a Mystic/Berserker duo that we have fun tromping around the world in. It definitely is a challenge the higher we get in level but we've done alright so far. :)

3. It's pretty quick to level up now. I can't really cite you a time frame as it all depends on how often you guys play, but it is likely going to be faster than you may recall from the past depending how long you were away for. Also if you want to work on AAs for a while that's always an option.

4. Sure you can get things accomplished in that time. That's actually one of several reasons I ended up fully switching over to EQ2 from EQ--I felt like I could get things accomplished in a reasonable amount of time. In an hour or two you could get a good bit of solo quests done or run a dungeon or chunk away a fair bit at a more complex quest (like a HQ or some such).

5. I always suggest to play whatever makes you happy. If you enjoy the classes you're playing then you'll be more efficient together with them imo. Aside from the Mystic/Berserker group I mentioned above, my husband and I also play Swashbuckler/Shadowknight and Troubadour/Monk pairings--neither of which sound like they make sense as a group but we make it work in most circumstances!

Hey There- :)

My husband and I duo most of the time and we love it. We can accomplish so much in a short amount of time, and have been leveling fairly quick depending on how often we play. We play an Inquisitor/Bruiser combo that is fantastic. Best duo I've tried yet. It's just a lot of fun, and makes questing pretty quick work. I'd definitely suggest trying this combo for a strong duo team.

Hope you give it a try, the game is really enjoyable. :)

I would go bruiser but I already have a 69 bruiser so thinking Druid or Sham class with Ranger/Zerker/SK or Pally. Any suggestion? Strengths any have over the other been out of the game a while so not sure whats good haha.

Why not each of you make one of each class you want to try out as a combo and see which ones are the most fun and suit you? :)

id find another game if ur looking for the game u played some time ago. Most of the zones are dead even on extended. If you plan on making your own groups and raids them it's ok but the populace has long since dropped into the sidewalk.

Extended is free but they nickle and dime you so much it's sick, most notably on the one thing that gets you money, the auction house.

Id say if you wanted an mmo with some life go to maybe ddo. Not much for the adventure thing but at least you can see actual living people about. Nice combat system to get into some hack and slash for ur wife. Or healing/magic/whatever. Lots of customization.

Lotr seems kind of dead until you hit around lv 25. But it's got the adventure outdoors theme that hundreds of other mmo's do. The main thing that sets em apart is really no nickle and dimeing and you get store points by doing quests. Spend points on anything and ur premiem, basically a regular player.

(I waited till the points were on sale where you get double bonus, and bought 7200 for 50 bucks. Then waited for the end game xp packs that most everyone uses were on sale for 50% or 20% off and bought em up... I figured 50 bucks, it's like buying a console game only cheaper, and u pretty much own the game outright forever cause you bought it.)

I believe guild wars 2 is coming out sometimes this year as well.

By all means try out eq2 but I was very sadly disappointed what they had done to it, then even had the nerve to call it a free game. It's a sham of the great game it was all those years back.

IMO antimodess's experience is not typical. EQ2 is still a vibrant, busy game :)

So here is a question about the EQ2 live and x, the live and x players are on separate servers right. I really don't like the idea of being nickle and dimed to death by SOE and form what I can tell if we play on live we will have a better experience. When I asked about game population just to make sure the live servers still have healthy life to them or are most people playing on the x servers? As far as any other MMO i'd rather not. Nothing in my eyes can compare to EQ2's Race/Class options, gear, graphics, and quest. I really hate the cheesy toony/anime graphics a lot of other MMO's go for.

EQ2X is on the Freeport server; it has its own launcher and is segregated from Live except for some cross-server channels. Live is all the other servers. On Extended you don't really get nickel and dimed to death, but you'll probably end up buying a Membership anyway and get the percs of a Live-type subscription.

Populations on Live are fine; when you create a character you'll get to choose a server, and they'll show you what the population is like right that minute (hint: roll a toon during your normal playtime for the best population metrics for you). Freeport (Extended) also has a great population, but never expended beyond one server.

A thought: You can start on Extended for free, give it try. You can also copy a toon from Live to Extended, although there are restrictions on what you can bring with you.
