Why does SOE support ignore error 41780 problems?Follow

#1 Aug 08 2011 at 6:55 AM Rating: Decent
After getting error 41780 on one of my accounts I thought I possibly had a local problem. After doing more testing I determined 4 of my accounts get that error BUT ONE WORKS GREAT... After contacting SOE support I was told then the issue would be escalated and someone would contact me soon. Well after 2 days and not even a automated response I decided I should probably start working on it myself. After 2 more days and still not even an automated response from SOE this is what I have learned.

1. Many people in China have had this error.
2. I could find NO complaints of this error from any other country.
3. SOE asks everyone to supply lots of data about their internet connection.
4. After recieving the data SOE will pick something (not always the same thing) in the data to blame it on and close the case.
5. This only effects accounts created after 10/2007.
6. My case is slightly different because I actually have a working account (same computer, same network). SOE solution to my problem...ignore me...

After going to Fanfaire and sitting through a talk where they praised how good TS was now (which I believed) I find I am very disappointed.

If anyone has ever heard of a solution to this problem please let me know or if you know of someone at SOE that you can direct me to that will try to help, that would be great also...

Sorry, I've never even heard of that error. If you have a petition in I'd give it a bump.

41780 Errors? I am one of the victims. Now I have a much bigger problem, in China.

I have two EQ accounts since 2001 playing EverQuest, one account owned by me and one account by my son. At that time we were in Australia. We stopped playing EverQuest in about year 2005 as my son was going to University.

At the beginning of this year 2011, I was invited by EverQuest (via the eMail we registered in EverQuest accounts) to play EQ2X free.

Without knowing that we could use the existing accounts to log on to EQ2X and I am now working in China, I created another two new EQ2X accounts, so there are four Station acounts we are talking about.

I have computers located in office and home connected to different ISP's, at the beginning, the situation was like this:-

ISP Topway (Cable, also Cable TV provider)
- only one account (which is one of the veteran accounts) is able to play,
other accounts encoutered 41780 error
ISP China TeleCom (ADSL, land line phone network provider)
- all four accounts could play EQ2X
ISP China UniCom (ADSL, also mobile phone network provider)
- all four accounts could play EQ2X

NOW I HAVE A MUCH BIGGER PROBLEM:-

Starting from Oct 21st, 2011, I am not able to connect to EQ2X via China TeleCom, error message is "Sorry, there was an error initializing LaunchPad. Please make sure you are connected to the Internet and try again." I am even not able to access all the SOE related sites, such as "support .station .sony .com", the EverQuest II Extended Forums "forums .station .sony .com/eq2x /forums /list.m" nor "www .everquest .com".

For other ISP's like Topway and China UniCom, it remains unchanged. However the location I play EQ2X most the time is using ISP China TeleCom. I am stuck now.

I don't know if this is the security measures SOE posted or the net was block by the local government.

Anyone any idea?

Sounds like the ISP blocked it. No idea, sorry.

41780 error was fixed on the accounts I was using in China during August. The new issue with all SOE sites being blocked is a similar but new issue. I have been assured by someone whom I trust that SOE is aware of the problem and is working on a solution. Do not be surprised however if most of the support people you talk to do not have a clue what is going on. Just give them the information they request and it should find its way to the people that are working on the problem. Unless you are very lucky or know someone at SOE you probably won't know what the problem is until they fix it and then you won't care...

I have considered trying to use a proxy but don't know SOE's stance on them...I would hate to get banned for using a proxy to get around a problem that they are also trying to fix.

Oh-HO! It's a DNS issue! Here's instructions for that. http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/

It is possible SOE has resolved this. I got a finally got a response to my support ticket and I tried to login today. It worked fine. I have been using a proxy since August so I don't know exactly when it changed for me...
