It is a new game and some people do not realize how to use their quest journal yet. I could not figure out how to get started on my citizen quest...I asked in OOC several times (very politely) over several minutes without a single response. Finally some one told me to look in my journal. I appriciated that so much. It gave me the help I needed. It may not be they ate too lazy to read the text, but too inexperienced to know to look there. Thank you to the EQer that finally pointed me in the right direction. Good Questing :)

3 hours running around Anotica to find him there no clues as to what landmark he was supposed to be near on

The quest itself tells you he's in the Keep of the Ardent Needle.

As for me, I wandered out and noticed the platforms. Figured I'd check them out. Discovered to my delight that it was a Griffon I could fly on! Figured I'd leverage the Griffon to fill in a bit of the map.

Lo and behold, as I'm flying to the Oracle tower I spot below me what looks a lot like....a keep! Right there, just like the keeps in the story books, with a moat and everything.

Strolled over, found Mr. Dwarf, and returned to my Griffon.

That's called 'playing' a game. As opposed to the irritating noobs who wish to achieve in the game without actually playing it.

There were plenty of clues, the landmark is spelled out for you in the quest itself. Why you ran around for hours is understood. Just remember, reading is fundamental.

What bothers me the most are those people who want to somehow impose their socialist ideals on others.

1) I'm talking about the Chat Police who are constantly trying to control how people use the various chat channels; complaining about /ooc, people using CAPS to talk, begging, etc...

2) I'm talking about the Loot Police, who find the need to inquire everytime whether someone needs a particular item or not when they win the lotto so that the person will be pressured into giving it to someone else or declining on the lotto. I don't subscribe to the group mandated "need before greed" rule. I subscribe to the "let the chips fall where they may" rule.

3) I'm talking about Camp Police, who think that they own a particular camp... Now that EQ2 solves the kill stealing issue, they have begun whining about camp stealing! I guess I'll start walking into dungeons and claiming the entire dungeon as my camp, and anyone who kills there is Dungeon Stealing (DSing for short)... Leave the "Camp Check" in EQ1. The only mobs you own are the ones you are engaged with at the moment.

Stop trying to control people and don't let people control you... Don't even follow the advice of this post if you don't want to.

Man, I just sense a lot of hostility in this thread. =P

I suppose I'll throw in my 2cp since everyone else has. I think the origional post is good advice, but should be taken as advice and as such can be ignored. I know I don't like beggars, and if someone tries to beg from me I just ignore them OR make them do a player made quest. As an example from EQ1, I was approched by a newb who asked me if I had any armor. I was a mage/smith, so I told him that if he brought me a stack of spider silk I'd make him a suit of banded. I even summoned him a suit of plate to help him do it. That's my favorite way to handle beggars if I can think of something I need quickly.

As far as cursing, I don't mind it as long as it's infrequent. If someone does curse up a storm in ooc, then yea, it bugs me a little, but it's no worse then what I was exposed to in, say, middle school, so even then it's not that bothersome, just kinda sad.

Stupid names I find, well, stupid. If they want to have them, let them have them. It'll just give me a heads up that I don't want to group with them.

As far as soloing goes, I like to solo. Or at least I like being able to solo. I'm probably more of a 70%solo/30%group kinda person. But then I don't care so much about the phat lewtz as lots of people. Not gonna tell anyone else which I think is better, it just all depends on how you like to play the game.

What makes me sad about this entire thread though is I remember back in the days of the early muds, when it was the norm for a higher level player to take a lower level player under their wing and show them the ropes. They, in turn, were expected to do the same for others. It was a great system, made people friends, and eliminated a lot of newbness. I'm not really sure when this died out. I guess when they put the shiney graphics on the games and attracted younger players who didn't care as much. But then again I was fairly young in those days, so who knows.
